Dr. Wehrli of College Park Animal Hospital missed my elderly cats cardiomegaly and interstitial lung pattern on an X-ray. As a result, Smokey went without treatment for close to three weeks, during which he wasted away and suffered. Another vet, Dr. Beck, saw Smokey during that time and also failed to recognize the seriousness of the condition (which she later admitted, to her credit). I filed a complaint against Dr. Wehrli with the State Board, and charges were initially brought against him for failing to identify Smokeys condition. The charges were later dropped and substituted with a formal letter of sensure, after Wehrli hired a lawyer and enrolled in classes "to improve his ability to interpret X-rays and ultrasounds." With all the efforts he put into addressing this issue, he never called or wrote to me to express his regret for causing Smokeys suffering or my and my familys distress. Before I filed the complaint with the State Board, I brought the misdiagnosis to the attention of Dr. McMichael, the owner and the head vet. He stated that Smokeys condition is not identifiable on an X-ray and can only be identified by a cardiologist. Even after the State Board issued a censure to Wehrli for failing to identify the condition on the X-ray, he never contacted me to express any regret for my pets suffering or for making false statements regarding the reasons for the misdiagnosis. These people should learn decency and honesty, in addition to better clinical skills.

TLDR; not recommended. I went to CPAH for many years more out of convenience than anything else. While I believe they have some good veterinarians they have one administrative staff person who is just nasty to customers (Im flabbergasted that she hasnt been terminated). However, my two star rating is centered around my experience with a problematic ear hematoma with one of my dogs. The second time surgery was needed on the ear I also asked for a growth on an arm that had previously been biopsied as benign to be removed. I was told I would have to schedule (and pay for) two surgeries. I sought out a second opinion and my current veterinarian didnt feel comfortable scheduling two surgeries and giving a dog of this age anesthetic twice for something that could be accomplished at the same time. When I picked up my dog after surgery at CPAH he couldnt stand on his own; when I picked up my dog after surgery at the new veterinarian he was almost normal. To keep that assessment in perspective the recovery time after surgery at CPAH was several hours MORE! As a bonus the cost of the two surgeries was about 25% less than the one at CPAH.

we used to go to another vet who was very sweet and cheap but didnt know what to do for our sick animals who i thought suffered for longer than they had to. first went to college park because they were able to do complicated bone surgery on our cat. they did a fantastic job. recently switched to them for all our pets because of our experience with our previous vet, and one of our cats had a complicated problem that needed sorting out. like their vaccination schedule because the old vet recommended every vaccine every year which i knew was unwarranted, but recommended lyme disease treatment for my dog when it was not at all clear she had lyme disease and recently recomended dental work for my cats who seem perfectly content and are geriatric and might not make it through the anesthesia. you must be in charge of your own veterinary care at this and any animal hospital.

College Park Animal Hospital is Fantastic. Dr. McMichael is a wonderful vet with superb diagnostic and surgical skills. My family and friends agree he is the most dedicated and compassionate doctor we have ever encountered. Some of us have moved and still travel quite far to see him and his staff. He has treated our dogs, cats, birds, fish and occasional backyard wildlife. And he and his staff have treated them for just about everything over the years - heartworms, feline leukemia, eye injuries, arthritis, cancer, heart and renal disease, stomach upsets, surgery, etc. Even the specialists that we have seen speak highly of College Park. Dr. McMichael and his staff have always treated us with respect and dignity while practicing top notch medicine. College Park Animal Hospital is the only place for all our pets.

I took My maltipoo to Vet college park becauae she was cut during a grooming session. I initially went Banfield at Petsmart but clearly my experience was not goo because she was not seen there. I called and spoke with an assistant who advised they would squeeze her in if I brought her within the hour. The vet looked at her and gave her some staples and advised that she could come back in 2 weeks to have them taken out. Her gash healed completely and there was no sign of infection. Most importantly My dog took well to the staff as she can be a very difficult dog when shes getting any type of treatment from people. Ive found her a perms and doctor and I mm extremely happy with that!

CPAH is always there our critters; from regular check-ups to more serious diagnoses, including when we had to make the decision to put our sweet Lola cat down. They are very caring, and always have time for us - whether we need to drop off in the morning, or make a sudden appointment, including on weekends. All their vets and vet techs are great with follow-up calls, and are gentle with our feelings (and our critters). The front desk greets you with a smile, sense of humor, and all staff work with you on questions /concerns with payment. We are so thankful to have CPAH close by.

I brought my elderly dog here, starting about 2 years ago, when I moved to DC. She arrived with MAJOR issues, and these vets were really incredible in helping me give her the best quality of life possible in her remaining time. I recently lost that dog, and, unfortunately, her cat friend, and CPAH was both professional and compassionate about both. Now I have a new kitten, and am about to get a new pup. The kitten has already had her first visit, and the new pup will go here, as well. I say this, and I live in SE DC, so its a hike.

I had a hard time finding an animal shelter I really liked. One tried to ply my dog with "natural" New Age potions. Another ended up charging me $200 shots because they charged me for a physical when they gave my dog the shot and two weeks later at the booster shot. College Park Animal Hospital gets it right. They are caring, competent and charge fairly. Their administrative staff is efficient and committed. Ive had nothing but good experiences, which is why I drive farther than I need to take care of my dogs health needs.

I took my two cats here for several years when I lived nearby, and I was very happy with the service. The staff are patient and treat the animals kindly. The vets have a great bedside manner, and they diagnosed my cat correctly and treated him successfully the first time he had a problem. I have seen two different vets here, and both were excellent. I highly recommend this animal hospital.

The new vet is not so good. She tried to upsell and charge me unnecessarily. Also, a few years ago Dr Mc Michael put my familys dog on holistic meds instead of nsaids. The dog was suffering and couldnt walk!! The dog suffered for months like this bc we thought that was the right medicine until we went to another vet and they said it was holistic meds.
