I had a net negative experience at Fairland Animal Hospital. I took in my cat to have a urinalysis done. The vet assistant I spoke to on the phone told me to drop off my cat in the morning and that they would collect a urine sample, send it away for a urinalysis, and call me with results the next day. First, if youre a pet owner interested in getting this test done, know that most vets will give you the option of bringing in a urine sample. If you bring in your pet, theyll give him or her a strong diuretic and bill you the cost. At least with cats, its fairly easy to collect a urine sample (just ask your vet) and definitely more economical to do it yourself. Second, I was never informed that the vet techs did an additional procedure on my cat. Without my consent or knowledge, they put my cat in an anesthesia gas chamber and extracted the urine with a needle. This procedure was highly expensive and would have been entirely unnecessary if I had been given the option to bring in a urine sample myself. Third, they chopped my cats nails down to the quick, exposing the fleshy part of the nail, and many of the nails were chipped and frayed as if cut with a pair of scissors. Based on my experience and on my conversation with Dr. Wahl, it seems to me that Fairland Animal Hospital staff is overwhelmed, disorganized, and unprofessional. 24 hours and 3 phone calls later, Dr. Wahl did call me back with the test results. He admitted that they should have called me to clear the additional procedures and apologized for the breach of etiquette. He offered me a refund of the additional procedures (the chamber and the urine extraction), which I accepted. I understand that every office has busy days, but Im looking for better treatment of my cat than what he received at Fairland. Next time, Ill be going somewhere else.

For some reason my previous review did not go up: Fairland and Dr. Wahl are terrible! My dogs has had various problems over the past few months. Not only did the vets not agressively try to diagnose the problem, they kept information from me abotu my dog! Her liver test results came back abnormally high from two different labs (including Fairland lab) and they didnt tell me. They gave her a drug with the common side effect of seizures and they didnt tell me! My dog fell (likely because of the seizures form the drug) and cut a huge gash on her leg, when my family brought her into Fairland the doctor said he couldnt even tell where the gash was. As soon as I came home that evening I noticed the gash on the very obvious front portion of her leg! Terrible, terrible place with incompetant vets and a staff that doesnt update you, keeps important information from you, doesnt diagnose illness or injuries, and doesnt give proper care.

I have to suspect these reviews are unfair and left by one unhappy cat owner. I have been going to Dr. Whall with our dogs (growing up, and now that I am out on my own) and his staff is EXCELLENT. I have friends and family that agree with me. He cares for our animals as if they were his own. About five years ago when my mother had to put her dog to sleep, it was a very emotional time. He was very comforting and gave us his cell phone number during the late stages in the event we needed ANYTHING. A couple of years later, we had a puppy that needed surgery on a Saturday. We met him there, he brought his family too, and performed the needed surgery. The staff is very friendly. What more can I say -- If you live in the Silver Spring/Burtonsville area, you are not going to find a better vet. I frequently see the staff and vets at Montgomery County Humane Society events. They are active in the community.

Terrific Clinic!!! You will never find a more friendly and fair place to take your animal. I have trusted them with my pets completely over the years. These other reviews... what? Why do you think they are so busy? Its like that old Yogism, "nobody goes to that restaurant anymore because its so crowed." :- Emergencies are done at emergency hospitals. That is what they are for.... EMERGENCIES! I have found that the staff at FAH are always very aware of not running up my bill. Just let them know in advance and they will work with you. Other vets I have taken my dog to have been more expensive and less flexible. Dr. Whall is awesome and dont let anyone tell you different. I have known him for 20 years.

My family started using Fairland Animal Hospital in 2012, upon our move to Silver Spring. They are a great team and practice. They were able to move into a larger clinic that is much more comfortable and gives them space to do their great work. With every visit we made, we were very satisfied that our pets were treated with care and compassion. We continued to use Fairland until our elderly dogs passed away, and the team helped lessen the severity of that experience. They were thoughtful as they advised us on medical prognoses and end-of-life decisions. We knew we could trust them. We highly recommend Fairland Animal Hospital, even if you don’t live in the Silver Spring area.

I would never recommend this clinic!! I brought my cat in for a check up becasue i was very concerned about her weight loss. I was told i would get lab results the next day. No one called. When I called the next day they said i would get a call the following day. Again, no call about the lab results as they promised and its been two days. We are now into the weekend and the clinic is closed. I also emailed the clinic with my concern-which the email states that they will answer in 24 hours. AGIAN no response. Poor customer service!! They were very quick to get a payment of $275 dollars, Im still waiting on lab results. The service is poor and incompetent!!!

I had an emergency, I live 3 blks away... I explained my dog was bleeding because he was attacked by another dog.I was told they were too busy, they could give me an appt for next week!...I told her again, my dog is bleeding and in a lot of pain.I was then told to go to ER in Rockville and the lady simply just hang up on me!!! very cold ppl. I will never try to go there.I know is a business but they should care about the patients!

Ive taken my animals to many different vet clinics all over the U.S. This was my favorite by far! Everyone was so nice and great with the animals; the Vet, the techs, and the ladies at the front desk. My dog was actually happy to go to her appointments. I recommend this clinic to anyone who loves their animal and cares about who sees them as their vet.

I love this animal hospital. Why? Because my dog LOVES it here! The way your pet responds the veterinarian speaks volumes. He actually gets excited whenever you arrive there. Their prices are very reasonable and the office is nicely decorated and inviting. If you are looking for a quality vet who truly loves animals this is the place. Give them a try!
