This health club has so much potential. Instructors are very good. Corporate needs to visit weekly and observe classes, maintenance, and management. No suggestions made over two years have been acted upon, except one. I was talking to the desk staff about the pink slime on the shower walls in the ladies changing room and a person from corporate walked in. I briefly mentioned it and he went directly to the cleaning people and it was taken care of immediately. After 2 years later, the walls are still clean. Kids Zone should be open at least 10-15 minutes after the last exercise class at night so moms dont have to rush to get their kids. Extra wall hooks in the family bathrooms and an extra wall shelf are needed. It is impossible to have kids changing and showering with 1 small wall shelf and 1 hook. We have to use the diaper changing thing to put our clothes on. Not hygenic. Having worked in the fitness industry for years in the past, there is so much members often see that the staff may not that could help improve member satisfaction, health, fun, and safety. Members comments should be honored, not dismissed or ignored with a shallow explanation as to why they cant help you. Where has customer service gone in the last 2 decades? It seems this club is more interested in profit then service. I no longer refer my patients to this club although I would like to. The VOLUME in most classes is near the decibel level of a jet engine and will cause permanent hearing loss unless you wear earplugs. I spoke to the director and was told each instructor determines the volume. This is not professional or wise. The swimming pool is kept at a safe and consistent temperature as is the sauna. The decibel level in classes should likewise be SET at a safe level, never exceeding 80 db. Research shows exercise classes today are TOO loud, between 90-110. HEALTH clubs should promote health of our total body - not just muscles. I will be talking to and writing cooperate and kindly asking for a safe limit on volume in classes. Exercising to jet level sound is never enjoyable. I walk away feeling shell shocked. I ask you to stand out and speak up (at corporate level) against excessively loud music in club classes. We have to advocate for what is right and healthy even if others go along and are naive to the damage they are doing to their body.

I decided to write reviews to address a few comments in earlier reviews and add some of my own observations: Monday is "National Bench Press Day", and yes most benches will be in use. You can always tweak your schedule to use benches on other days, and this is an issue at every gym. 5-8pm is Prime Time in the gym, you and everyone else is off from work and is trying to get their workout in. It can be crowded at times and I change my workout order, and rarely have to abandon something completely. "Muscle Guys in Sleeveless Shirt"...OMG!!....the HORROR!!, do you object to the women in micro shorts also? The sleeveless shirts I do not agree with are the string tank tops and shirts with ripped open sides, and would urge the gym to ban these types of shirts (barely shirts). Sleeveless tank tops are normal gym/athletic wear because of comfort and freedom of movement. Overall cleanliness of the gym has improved greatly over the past 6 months, new hires have stepped up and there is rarely a time I’m in the locker room and someone is not scrubbing down the showers or mopping floors. We (wife and myself) utilize the DayCare 3x a week. The DayCare center is available free of charge to all members for 2hrs at a time. You must be present in the gym and cannot simply drop off and leave. The women working in the center are always alert, they know the kids and enjoy their jobs. Having DayCare facilities was a key factor in choosing this gym. Overall Sport & Health is a nice gym with good features, well maintained equipment and knowledgeable staff. However, it is a gym, and people are there to workout. If you are intimidated by people that are in-shape or working hard to get in-shape and you’re not, then maybe a gym….any gym is not for you. If you’re not intimidated and looking for some help on how to use a particular equipment, just ask one of the trainer’s, or ask one of the other gym members, as I’ve never seen anyone turn someone away looking for advice on how to work-out without being injured, instead there have been numerous occasions where members have stepped in to correct someone’s form, or stop them from attempting to do something that would clearly lead to injury. Of all the gym’s I have been to over the years, the “muscle” guys in this gym are by far the most friendly I have seen.

Nothing really special about S&H....a bit overpriced if you ask me but its extremely close to where I live, so I pay the price. The hours are good, equipment is decent. It is VERY crowded around 6:30pm when I go BUT I get it, everyone is getting their workout in after they get off work, as am I. They are really lacking room for pre and post workout stretching....that irritates the crap out of me. Looks are definitely deceiving, the place looks huge from the outside but once you see it, its kinda disappointing...the pool is the size of a postage stamp (and full of spawn) and there is no hot tub. Never had an issue with cleanliness as other reviewers claimed. The only issue I have with the womens locker room is the dumb biotches that put their belongings in a locker but dont put a lock on....I open 10 lockers before I find an empty one...I am really considering moving all their crap into ONE locker with a note that says "if you can afford a membership here, you can afford a damn lock!" and teaching them a lesson. The free personal trainer session you get when joining is a joke, of course, since its all an attempt to get you to pay an insane amount for some guidance but that is typical of these types of establishments. Again, S&H is nothing special or spectacular, just a place to work out.

I love this gym. Ive been a member for almost three years and cant say a single bad thing about the gym. The staff is super friendly. They take the time to know me and ask me how my day is by name. The front staff are the best (Kelly, Jon, Josh, Tim, Brady) and the trainers are knowledgeable and always available for my questions (s.o. Q, Chris, Bruce, Benjamin, John M., John F., and Lauren ) and most of all the Kidz Klub is the best. My kids enjoy coming there and seeing their little buddies and I credit Nicole and her crew for all their work. The equipment is always working, clean (#shoutout Steven) and when theyre fixing it, they do their best to get it up to speed as quick as possible. Theyre always working on getting newer equipment to help challenge everyone here and I never have any issues getting on the equipment here (other than after work rush, but cmon thats to be expected). This gym is top notch and the best one in Frederick by far with all the amenities and services it offers. I wouldnt go anywhere else, especially because they are welcoming to all athletes new and advanced, young and old, athlete or not. Bri deserves a ton of credit! Best GM hands down!
