PET LOVERS BEWARE! I was squeezed in very quickly for an emergency visit for my cat, Jasper by what I thought was a caring, friendly, state-of-the art vet practice. They were seemingly kind to start, and truly very sweet and gentle with Jasper. I felt very confident, until they decided to drop a $1,100 "estimate" of the services they performed in under 45 minutes time only AFTER all the services had been provided. Fair enough, even though they charged me over $400 just to walk in the door, I wanted whatever was needed to help get Jasper better. They then told me that to possibly fix Jaspers issues, they would need to charge an additional $7-9,000. When I told them that wasnt immediately possible, Dr. Schueler (who is clearly well-versed and experienced in his field) advised me that it was perfectly fine to take Jasper home, that his illness wasnt immediately life threatening (though he was clearly in a lot of discomfort). No pain meds were given to help alleviate his discomfort, and honestly, the doc and staff seemed very bothered with me after realizing that I wasnt able to immediately kick out that kind of money without first discussing it with my husband (a reasonable request, in my opinion). On a side note, while I was in the room, crying and obviously very upset over Jaspers illness, a woman repeatedly walked in and remarked on remodeling, and the color of paint and which color she should change it to. I thought that was in extremely poor taste - cant you work on that when customers arent present?!. We took Jasper home, frustrated that we hadnt gotten more answers or help for him. Jasper died the next morning. I called to let the staff and doc know, and asked for a call back to discuss what could have happened. After not hearing back for over a day, I left another friendly but firm message with the receptionist. Dr. Schueler never called back to even try to alleviate my concerns or even to offer a simple condolence for my loss. I also sent a very polite but firm e-mail, no response, and after that a mailed letter, again not a single response. Though I do not in any way fault this practice with Jaspers death, I do believe that more could have been done to help him while he was here, and I also feel that they will only care about you as long as you are continuing to pay them large sums of money. I know that vet practice, especially this one, is highly specialized and an extremely valuable service, I generally give all vets the utmost of respect and admiration for the work they do and know that and vets and their staff should be justly compensated for their time. However, I think it is extremely wrong to give a customer a very high estimate only after the services have been rendered and its EVEN WORSE to dismiss and refuse to respond to someone when they are unhappy. Missing my boy and wish this could have been a much less painful experience for both of us.

My first visit last week was outstanding - a very friendly, absolutely professional veterinary technician (Norma) took care of my dog and me. I am glad that Dr. Schueler has the possibility to do an MRI in his hospital, although his prices went up way too high. Today we came to recheck my dogs blood pressure; unfriendly, unprofessional (really, flip flops are appropriate to wear at work - especially when you work with animals????) and somewhat arrogant veterinary technician took my dog back into the treatment area. She came back to tell me that my dogs blood pressure was normal; the whole blood pressure reading took only a few minutes; for ONE SINGLE blood pressure reading I was charged with $ 75!!!!! Dr. Schueler did not even talk to me! ONE SINGLE blood pressure reading - $ 75. Seriously???? Who can afford this??? Dr. Schueler might have a lot of experience, his diagnostic is probably very good, but to pay so much money, I wanted to be treated nicer and after paying $3400,-- last week, that one blood pressure reading should have been included.

My cat, Tiger was very sick and had 10 seizures on a Monday. Later that evening he lost his sight. Tuesday we took him to Dr. Schueler who gave us a plan for his treatment including a spinal tap and an MRI. He was extremely thorough in his examination. Wednesday he had the MRI which showed a brain infection. My cat was taken care of very well and I was called with updates every day. Yes the cost is very high, but youre paying for a neurologists expertise and technology. Tiger came home after 3 days having regained his sight, and is recuperating nicely so far. Im grateful for the care he received and hope he continues to progress back to good health.
