I have always had pleasant experiences at the dentist until going to Great Expressions. I had my X-rays and afterwards the dental hygienist (I think her name was Bethany) came in to ask me to wait another 30/45 mins while she cleaned someone’s teeth. She said there was some sort of scheduling conflict with the front desk. She mentioned that she had to do an oral assessment (Periodontal Evaluation) before determining if they could clean my teeth that day. I expressed to her that this was not explained when I scheduled the appointment and that would have made a difference with me scheduling the appointment at all. I have never went to a dentist for an assessment then had to go back for a cleaning. She also said that she conducts a thorough examination of each tooth and other dental hygienist and offices do not do that because they don’t feel like taking the time. I asked her what time was the other patient’s appointment for, and she said 1:50pm, keep in mind that mine was for 1:20pm – at that time it was 2:08pm. I kindly asked her to ask her other patient to wait since I had already been there over 35 minutes and I would not be able to come back if she couldn’t do the assessment and the cleaning that day. She eventually worked it out and began the periodontal evaluation by jabbing my gums instead of gently probing them. I expressed my discomfort and I noticed her attitude with me. The lady who did my X-Rays came back in to assist and the dental hygienist was very rude to her. Later the dental hygienist told me “you have gingivitis because your mouth was bleeding all over the place”! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! My gums were bleeding because she was JABBING my gums, who wouldn’t bleed? Every dentist I have EVER been to has complimented by mouth, teeth, and oral hygiene. I have only had one very small cavity and that was in my late teens, and I’m in my mid 30s. I was also told that I have an area that is at risk for Periodontal Disease and that they would need to perform a procedure to “ shot a numbing powder in my gums, scrape out the bacteria in the gums, and apply an anti-microbial solution” which was an additional cost. She did the cleaning and was ROUGH and very unfriendly, and condescending when telling me about my oral health as though I had a mouth disease. I figured when I said no to waiting until someone else’s teeth were cleaned, there would be some fishy business and there was. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO GREAT EXPRESSIONS NOR RECOMMEND THEM. Needless to say, I cancelled my husband’s appointment before leaving that day. Stay away from this place! My mouth is still sore and swollen 2 days after this.

All, Ill preface this by saying I am a professional and never bash any business or individual. This situation came off as completely unprofessional and disrespectful, not only to me and my intelligence, but also to thd insurance companies that we pay into. Allow me to explain. I live in Canton, recently moving from Dearborn. I decided to give GE a shot, as it was much more convenient than traveling back my regular Dentist. During my initial visit I was told that I had, somehow, amassed 6 cavities. They said immediate action was necessary to prevent further damage to my smile. After deflecting the pressure to schedule a follow up within 7 days, I contacted my normal Dentist. I went in for a second opinion & was informed that I, in fact, had a total of 0 cavities, and that my oral hygiene was great. So heres the main issue. This type of "chain" Dentistry has one goal; maximize their revenues through your insurance coverage. They understood I could get up to 6 cavities covered per year, so they attempted to get all 6. They make their money doing this! This type of unethical behavior has led me to filling out this review (something in which I never do). I gave this review in efforts to help other (potential) customers from being taken advantage of. Go find a non-chain Dentisry & youll understand that, to them, its not all about making a "quick buck"; rather, they build a relationship on trust & integrity. With all of this said, I would give Great Expressions of Canton 0 stars if I could. -Josh

We recently moved and were looking for a new family dentist. Great Expressions was close to home and we decided to try it. What a mistake. I took the kids there a couple of times for cleanings, which my insurance covers 100%. When I checked out and they told me I was all set, but a week later I get a bill for $34. When I called they said insurance didn’t cover everything they did. I wrote this off as a mistake, paid the bill and went on. Then I went for a cleaning, again insurance pays 100%. I stood at the front desk for about 5 minutes waiting for the receptionist to acknowledge me while she complained to a co-worker about a patient on the phone. I should have left right then, but I decided to wait it out. 30 minutes later I was called back by the hygienist. They kept offering me additional services and told me “no” when I asked is they were covered by my insurance. I told them very specifically that I don’t want them to do anything that isn’t covered by my insurance. A week later I get a bill for $81!!! I felt ripped off every time I went in there…because I was. I would rather let my teeth rot out of my head than give those people any business. STAY AWAY FROM GREAT EXPRESIONS DENTAL!!!!!!!

As for both dental & orthodontics, yes it is clean & the dentist/orthodontist are great. Those are the only reasons my family & I continue to be seen there. The staff in both areas regularly is rude, condescending, & at one time had to speak with staff regarding HIPPA violations (they were having the orthodontic patients pull there own chart while they waited). Also, beware if you have to cancel an appt. & give less than 48hrs. notice they charge you $35 depending on who works that day. Ive also witnessed them take a child back while parent was in restroom...come to find out wrong child & the parent was livid because she not only couldnt find kid but when she did they were in a dental chair (kid didnt know she wasnt being seen). Was supposed to be a different child from other family with same first name. Im not one to hate going to the dentist nor are my kids but as soon as their braces are off we are done there. There are other places that have good & clean facilities that treat you like a patient not just a dollar sign.

Would not recommend this place. Worse dentist place Ive ever had. They had told me the price from the start and have been very clear about the service i was recieving but when the bill came, it was noticeably higher than the price I have agreed to. I called them and they said they have changed it at the last minute. Im pretty ticked off. The service wasnt that great either as the lady didnt seem to like me. She did a terrible job of cleaning that left me with bloody gums that ached like hell afterwards. Do not go here.
