I had a very positive experience at Crystal Vision Clinic from both the Opthamologist and the staff. Please continue to read my full thorough review, for all the details on my positive experience. I have been to a lot of different vision clinics over the years because I move around a lot. I wouldnt say that any in particular stand out, but I do have to say that Crystal Vision Clinic was the first in about 15 years to solve the mystery (or at least go to the trouble of explaining to me) of why I have a hard time correcting my vision with contacts. I have always had trouble with my right eye in contacts, in that I always go in thinking I need a new, stronger Rx because the vision in my right eye always seems blurry with contacts even if that Rx works well with my glasses. I have mentioned this to numerous vision clinics in the past, but during my exam at Crystal it was the first time I received specific responses as to why this may be, which was that I have a slight astigmatism in my right eye, but not enough to warrant special contacts for astigmatism. This seems to me like a pretty common thing that ophthalmologists should be able to catch and explain to patients after administering the common tests during an exam. This, however, was the first time anyone gave me an answer and actually sat down with me and let me have a conversation about my experiences trying to correct my vision over the years. It should not have taken this long. I see other comments about the staff being rude or unprofessional. I had no such experience in that regard. I had no problems scheduling an appointment. I was seen promptly upon my arrival. My benefits were clearly explained to me and the assistant, Corin, who did all my preliminary tests, clearly informed me as we went along, which tests would be covered and which ones might cost me a bit more. She even went as far as to explain what those tests would show as opposed to the other, less expensive tests. I decided to do all of them to try to get some answers to about my vision correction problems. I have also had trouble with choosing a good contact solution over the years and the recommendation they gave me is what I still use today and has made wearing contacts a much more viable option for me. I know people often dont give reviews when they have had a positive experience, which is why I decided to hop on here and combat some folks who might have just walked in on a uncommonly bad day or perhaps have unreasonable expectations. I have worked in customer service for many years and I know some customers just walk in in a bad mood and there is nothing you can do about that.

I am a 10+ year customer of Crystal Vision and unfortunately they have treated me poorly two times in a row. First time they would not give me my prescription unless it was in-person. So I lost the opportunity to receive a free pair of $300 riding glasses. They said they could not do email, fax, or over the phone because it might result in a error. Hogwash, this is just the "optical hustle" to corner you into buying frames and lenses from them. This latest time I went in and bought replacement lenses for my frames. I dropped them and a lens fell out and was lost. The lenses were supposed to be exactly as the previous ones. Night driving with the new lenses is nearly impossible as there are streaks coming off all lights. This did not happen with my last lenses. When I called and said I was unhappy with the lenses. I was told they were the same (they are not) as my last lenses. I said I am really unhappy here, the response was a bright and cheery, "OK". The message was loud and clear... We dont care about you or 10 years of loyalty or the thousands of dollars you spent here. The final straw was when I asked for a copy of my prescription to buy online ($52 vs. over $400), they did not give me a complete prescription and I had to make two calls back to them for more information. More "Optical Hustle". If you are looking for a place to give you good service at a good price, I would not choose here, shop around. If you are a Crystal Vision Employee reading this, I will tell you I did not enter this review without some thought. You have had many chances to keep my business and just could not.

I was not a huge fan of Crystal Vision Clinic. I was 5 minutes early for my appointment and wasnt called back until 15 minutes after my scheduled time. During those 20 minutes I was, however, caught up on all the latest, juiciest gossip from the receptionists talking to one another. My overall visit was about 1.5 hours long (routine exam and contact fitting) due to computer errors, mishaps, and who knows what else. I received more personal, professional attention when I called 1-800-Contacts (including over-night shipping). I will be buying from them from now on and seeking another clinic for exams. After 1-800-Contacts called the clinic I was told that they certainly were very unhappy to be contacted and were giving them trouble about faxing in the prescription. I also received an immediate less-than-pleasant call from CVC trying to convince me to purchase from them again. I told them I had an unpleasant experience in the office and they said, "OK." On top of the exam fee, if you are getting contacts you are also looking at a $100+ "contact fitting fee" which I have not seen at either of my last two eye clinics. This wouldnt be a huge deal but they require a new exam and a new fitting fee annually. I do have confidence in their exams and their equipment and facilities are top-notch. But the stuff doesnt make a good clinic, the people do. The people I interacted with at this clinic were unfortunately impersonal and/or unprofessional.

Prices on glasses are high, had a hard time doing routine check up and getting a prompt prescription, employees are rude and unorganized. I went in, had a hard time getting the right prescription. They accommodated some changes with a different prescription trial. I called in, they said the dr would sign off and I wouldnt need to come back in. 4 months later trying to get the prescription, I dealt with a rude woman who told me the dr was no longer there and they hadnt finalized the prescription (opposite of what they told me), and I would have to do it all over. Nothing they could do in the mean time for me. When I asked about insurance and fees, she promptly told me that was not her job and she couldnt help me.

My last visit was much like most, if not all, of my visits. The counter staff was friendly. Assistant, Hugh was knowledgeable and fun to work with. Dr. Hess explains everything very thoroughly and most importantly he listens to my concerns and tries to work out a solution. Ive got a very sensitive prescription and he takes extra time to make sure everything is right. I didnt really need the opticians this time but Scott has always provided top notch service. And JC will be missed.
