I have a 4-year-old lab mix that Ive been taking to Banfield in Brentwood since June 2012. Ive never had any issues until recently. Historically I have never seen the same doctor twice, but my dog is healthy and I didnt have any cause for concern. *Sidenote: I purchase her heartworm through 1-800 Pet Meds because buying it through the vet is outrageously expensive in comparison.* Recently, the management at this location/practice changed and Im hoping that they are working out their kinks and will be back to normal soon. My dog had surgery last month to remove a small mass on her lip and I was sent home with an anti-inflammatory but not an antibiotic. I only realized it a few days after the surgery because I was reviewing the bill and was charge $30 for meds I didnt receive. At that point, I was told it wasnt worth giving her the medication since she seems to be doing fine and the med is used to fight off any infections immediately following surgery. Obviously, I was not exactly happy about that, but my dog seemed healthy and I was refunded the money. Supposedly the vet called me to give me the lab results from her surgery, but I was on vacation and could have easily missed the voicemail, so this part could totally be my fault. However, I called back two days ago to get the results and was told the doctor wasnt in and he needed to explain them to me personally, so they took my name and told me I would get a call from the vet the following day. I just called (48 hours later) and was finally given the results (by a vet tech, not the actually vet which seemed super important two days ago). My biggest concern right now is COMMUNICATION! They need to work on their in-office work flows and make sure that the needs of the pets and pet parents are actually taken care of. Sending a pet home after surgery without the recovery meds is NOT OKAY! Like I said, in the past four years, the only time Ive had issues have been within the last 2 months which is why Im giving them 4 stars. Im just hoping they clean up their act and get back to where they were before.

Ive heard that Banfield Pet Hospitals can be hit or miss as far as quality service. Prior to March of this year I had only used Banfield (not Brentwood) for grooming services, and when I did, the employees were rude, abrupt, and impatient with "difficult" pets. They also lost my dogs leash more than once, even though it had my dogs name on it. Eventually they found the leash, but it was frustrating to have to make extra trips. So when I was looking for a new vet after moving, I was wary about going to a Banfield. I went to the Brentwood Banfield on the recommendation of a friend whos a vet tech. She said the Brentwood Banfield is "the only one in the St. Louis area worth going to." After our experiences there, I can at least agree that its a Banfield worth going to. My dog visited this Banfield three times, and while at first I was taken aback by seeing a different vet every time, they were all very knowledgeable, thorough, friendly, and understanding of my financial situation. It was obvious that they reviewed Tashas records and they were clear about treatment options. My dog was suffering from kidney failure, and eventually I had to have her put to sleep. The vet who saw her on her last visit (a blonde-haired female, whose name escapes me at the moment) was very caring, understanding, and compassionate. I had also taken out the Banfield Wellness plan on Tashas first visit. Considering the treatments and tests Tasha needed due to her kidney failure, this saved me a lot of money. Had she been healthy and able to have a teeth cleaning, Im sure I would have taken advantage of that option of the plan as well. When I had her put to sleep, all I had to do was contact Banfield the next day, and they cancelled the Wellness plan with no further balance due. In the short time I had the plan, I saved several hundred dollars compared to what I would have had to pay had I not taken the Wellness plan. When I inevitably get another dog, I will absolutely come back to the Banfield Pet Hospital in Brentwood, and I will most likely take out the Wellness plan.

Customer service has been steadily declining. Was a long term client (9 1/2 years) Just a corporate operation more interested in "retail sales" rather than pet care. CONSTANTLY overbook appointments, long wait times, poor customer service. In fairness to front desk staff, most of whom really care, the corporate atmosphere puts them in a tough spot. Had brought these issues to attention of Vet but no improvement. I would recommend seeking a private Vet. that is not part of a "corporate" affiliation. Wellness plan was basically just a finance plan for services with a fee instead of interest. In my case I could have just used credit card and paid less in the long run. Unfortunately the franchisee does not care about client retention (or indirectly employees). I chose to find a new Vet. and cancelled the wellness plan on both pets. I would urge anyone considering a pet care provider to stay away from Banfield.

My dog now has immune system issues because of this place. After his neutering surgery he developed an infection. To fix the problem they gave my dog a steroid shot and antibiotics, which has now caused issues with immune system and allergies. Cost me a lot more money in the long run. Also did test and gave prescriptions without notifying me of cost involved. The whole goal is to up-charge and make money. They are not happy unless your bill breaches $80... on top of the monthly charge. Seemed to me to be a bunch of new vet/vet techs straight out of school. Like the Custom Cuts for your dogs health. You get what you pay for. I wish I could go back in time and not use Banfield. Spend a little more money and go to a real vet. TRUST ME!!!!

Please if you really care about your pet (and I know you do) dont go to banfield. They always over book themselves and dont take the time for you or your pet thats really needed. They rush through answers to your questions to get to their next appointment. They require you to drop your pet off and leave them there if they need to be seen right away. Theyre also generally more expensive than a private vet. If you live in the area Brentwood Animal Hospital is close and theyre excellent. They really care and are much more knowledgeable. They take all the time in the world for you and your pet and they can generally see a very sick pet right away. They are also less expensive.

Being trick to a wellness plan. I had my husky there for a check up, vaccination and they asked me if I would like to enroll to the plan because of the free neuter benefit. However, when I enrolled him in, they told me that my dog is already an adult. so it has to be an additional $250 plus the $150 for the extra deep looking for his testicle. The staff was very friendly I am sure. But tricky too ! Please be careful of the wellness program and be sure to check if your pet is able to be fixed for free within the plan.
