I was originally excited to go to Maywood Vet due to all the positive reviews, but my experience has been on the decline since my first visit there in April 2016. The first thing that didnt sit well with me was that they carry a paper card listing vaccines with associated pricing to the exam room -- but when the appointment was done and I went to check out, all the vaccines were priced a few dollars more. I let that go, understanding and accepting that perhaps the sheet I was shown during the exam was outdated. When I went to the next appointment for vaccine shots, I was charged an exam fee -- a fee that I was told would not be charged when coming in for my pets second visit in order to get vaccine shots. The male front desk receptionist fumbled with an explanation, apologizing but not reversing the charge. I let that go too, even though I felt lied to / misinformed and thought that they should honor what was communicated to me previously during my first visit. Then, comparing what Maywood Vet charges for medications against reputable and well-known online sellers carrying the same exact brand meds (not generic), I decided to place an order online for my pets medications in order to save money. The online store reached out several times to Maywood Vet for authorization, and heard no word at all. I then left a voicemail with Maywood Vet and received no call back. My husband then called, and was told that they do not email or call in approval of meds but that we could pick up the paper prescription. Not only did it take a total of 5 attempts to hear any word from Maywood Vet, but their explanation as to why they dont authorize sounded quite poor. Humans can order prescriptions online and have it authorized by their doctor without having to mail the original paper presecription to the online store, but apparently the same does not apply for pets (according to Maywood Vet). I give them a max score of 2 out of 5 stars. Although the vet herself and the vet techs/assistants seemed nice or friendly enough, after my repeated disappointments with Maywood Vet, I plan to change clinics and would not recommend them to others.

I took my 15-year-old cat to Maywood on the suggestion of one of their techs. Maggie had been sick with a persistent upper respiratory infection for over a month and could not shake it. She then developed a crusty, sclerotic skin condition on her ears that spread to her eyelids, paw pads, anus, and nose, as well as inside her ears. Two other veterinary offices could not identify what it was, but the tech (Stacey) took one look at her at my house and said "That looks like pemphigus." I had endured 3 deaths in my family in less than a year and did not want to part with my Maggie, but I also did not want to make her suffer. I needed someone to reassure me that I was not giving up on her. I took her to Maywood and Dr. Buchholz examined her carefully and said we were dealing with either severe pemphigus or a very aggressive skin cancer. While no vet can make this terrible decision for you, Dr. Buchholz made clear that because of her age, condition, and the fact that she was already on steroids for IBD, that letting her go would not be an unreasonable decisioin -- which is what I needed to hear. I adopted a new cat three days later and I take him to Maywood. I do think they oversell meds and prescription diets a bit more than I like, but you can always say no. But they are caring, thorough people to whom I will always be grateful. Im looking forward to keeping my Sammy a long, long time under their care. And they are open on Saturdays and Sundays!! Recommended!!

Ive been to many animal hospitals but Ive never been so baffled at an animal hospital before. They treated my cat Max who had a urinary track infection and the price for it was sky rocket high for some surgery they asked to preform. When i denied and ask to release my cat to take him to my local vet they told us itd cost us MORE to release him in his condition. he was there two nights and he didnt look any better when i went to visit him. On a Sunday we received a phone call stating that he wasnt eating or drinking water and to come see him. Once we got there it took over an hour for them to open the door for us or even answer the phone. After we finally got inside to see out baby boy they tell us they NEED to do the procedure right away, so we asked to move him ASAP to our local vet. They denied us and told us we had to either do the surgery or put him down....you could only imagine how upset my family and i was. They asked for the money upfront and gave us an ultimatum on our loved on. We couldnt afford to pay for the procedure and they didnt even wanna talk about billing arrangements. There was no sympathy. We lost our loved one that sunday afternoon. I would not recommend going to this clinic if you wish to be with sympathetic people who actually value your four legged family members.

I have a male pug (Tyson) I took him in when he was nine years old to help out a close family member, I was hesitant because my 11 year old rescue Phoebe had just left me due to her illness, she is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge:) but my daughter in law Joanna said; to me Tyson deserves you Pat! So ok I chose Dr. Brett Swan to be his primary care doctor after our first visit for Tysons wellness check up. Dr.Swan is very thorough, patient, and explains and answered all my questions and concerns for an older dog. At one point Tyson had to stay overnight to be treated for a urinary condition, and Dr. Swan put him on a prescription food and supplements which helped Tyson to be able to be free of his blockage issues. I am forever grateful to Dr. Swan for his knowledge and professionalism and his sense of humor where Tyson is concerned. Pugs are very funny loveable dogs that are part of the family. His second issue was high protein in the urine, again the doctor knew what medication to put him on to keep Tyson happy and healthy! He is 11 years old now and I hope he sticks around a long time. Yes I recommend the Maywood Vet. Clinic to all of our dog & pet friends. Thank you all for your care and compassion for our k-9 friends and family...

Front desk personnel are not attentive, slow and unorganized. Veterinarians are unfamiliar with their patients, complacent with the diagnosis, and always eager to end the meeting. Rarely do Veterinarians call with test results, and when calls are made to deliver test results its usually the front desk with very little information. Ive had calls made very late at night when results had been there all day. When purchasing prescriptions, the cost is wildly over priced, and when ordering externally, prescription requests are ignored and external personnel are treated harshly when following up with the request or lied to. Every time Ive ordered somewhere else, Ive had to call the clinic to walk them trough the process, usually making the order received later and forcing the client to purchase their drugs. Its never a pleasant experience visiting the clinic, always taking more time than needed waiting on the front desk. Technicians are very pleasant, and seem to know what they are doing. Ive been going to Maywood Veterinary clinic for almost two years, and I regret ever walking in. I will no longer be bringing my pets to this organisation, the only reason I was convinced to join them is the discount plan that is no longer offered.
