What a horrible experience! I just moved to Secaucus from Dallas and had to bring my wife to the ER here for an ovarian cyst which started giving her tremendous pain one night. In excruciating pain (anyone with PCOS will attest to how painful this condition is), she was administered morphine drops and shunted from room to room for CAT scan (why they did not give her a trans-vaginal ultrasound is anybodys guess. I am sure it is because they can extort more money from the insurance companies for a CAT scan than an ultrasound). The best part was that we were told there was nothing to do and sent us on our way with a prescription of Vicodin. Two days later, she could no longer bear the pain and we came back to the hospital with her obgyn to find that her ovary had to be removed. I totally blame the gross negligence this ER showed in attending to her condition. Just some points to note: 1) There was no gynecologist in the ER when we came in. In spite of us telling the ER personnel and the attending ER doctor on call about the ovarian cyst, they insisted on running a battery of tests to rule out appendicitis (to which I dont object) and then end up not treating her for her real problem, ovarian cyst (to which I totally object). They should have taken her in as an in-patient and called up the gynecologist on call to handle it. Instead they just sent us on our way and my wife had to loose her ovary because of this. 2) On the day of the actual surgery, the patient was shunted between the emergency and out-patient room thrice because they could not figure out where she belonged. We were asked to come there by our gynac (bless his kind soul) and they still could not figure out where she belonged. Nobody should be shunted between rooms thrice when they are in excruciating pain and are on Vicodin. No hospital staff should be this clueless. 3) While watching the healthcare debate, I used to think that insurance companies are the problem. But I now realize that the bigger problem is hospital management who want to extract every penny out of the insurance company who then keep increasing the premiums. For the "amazing" service Meadowland ER provided, we were charged a huge sum above our insurance co-pay. I have great insurance (believe me, I work for a Fortune 500 company in downtown NYC). The reason we were charged above the excess amount was that my insurance company refused to pay some charges since Meadowlands hospital sent them the wrong billing codes. So here we are, bad practices, bad billing and exorbitant cost and all at the cost of loosing an organ - thats Meadowlands Hospital ER for you. You go there at your own peril. P.S: In the interest of full disclosure, this reviewer is working on suing this hospital for negligence.

This hospital is worst! I went there for an ER visit due to allergy response, and got iv injection of benadryl, steriods and epinephrine, and a series of wrong things happened through the process of billing. First of all when we were at the ER reception the lady at the front desk did not tell us at all that my insurance is not accepted at the hospital. This would have been considered a malpractice of the hospital staff anywhere else and patients would not be responsible for not being aware of this. But not in this hospital. Instead, I got a claim explanation from my insurance company indicating that the entire cost, over $4200 is completely not covered. For a long time after I received this Ive been calling back and forth between the hospital and my insurance trying to figure out. It turns out that the main item being charged which is over $3000 is the "set-up" fee for ER visit set by the doctors in the hospital. OK, fine, although ive never heard of such a high price for simply stepping into the ER room. Then I figured my insurance does have out-of-network ER visit benefit, which is a huge relief. But about a month later i received a bill printed on really crappy paper with hand-highlighted total amount. First of all, no serious hospital would ever send a crappy paper for formal bill except this one. Second and worse, they duplicated every single service i used during the ER visit but was unable to figure out it was a dup but simply added up the amount, so my bill is now almost $8500! SERIOUSLY? Do they not know elementary school arithmetic or they are that dumb not able to figure out what items are the same and what are different? PLUS, I just got updates from my insurance company recently that my case is still under review, then who gave them the right to send me a final (crappy-made) bill before my insurance company send me an updated claim explanation? And of course whenever i called through this long process of troubles i couldnt find anyone in the hospital that is in charge. The so called customer satisfaction line is never being answered for over a week. This is the most ridiculous hospital Ive ever experienced and im very disappointed as their valued patient. I would have given a minus 100 stars if i was able to do it.

I delivered my 1st and 2nd baby here (7 year difference)The hospital has gone through many changes. Positives: I met my entire surgical team before the surgery and they were great! They answered all my questions and concerns and made me and my partner feel extremely at ease. Staff was really friendly. Help was available at all times. They helped me with breast feeding which I greatly appreciate because my 1st born wasnt having it and its probably the best thing for a newborn. This time around they supplied me with all the breastfeeding supplies (Medela pump, breast pads and breastfeeding information) They helped me with teaching the baby how to latch and by the 2nd day my baby was a pro. This time around I also met all of my babys doctors. They knew everything about her, no charts or notes needed which made me feel like she had everyones undivided attention. This time they also made sure I was doing my exercises to help me recover, last time they just told me what I had to do which was fine but I dont think I did any of them and I ended up suffering. Even though this is my 2nd c-section and healing is gonna take twice as long I feel like the exercises that they enforced have helped me a whole lot! Some other things I noticed was that this time around they were so much more "giving". Free hospital WiFi, phone calls, cable TV, and snacks for my partner. Made me feel like I was at home. Negatives: although I have ZERO complaints about the maternity wing and their staff I find that security now in days is vital necessity ANYWHERE! Especially in a hospital! To me, this is the ONLY thing that holds them back from being a 5 star hospital. Multiple people came to visit me and most of them said that they just walked in. The few people that actually checked in had trouble scanning their passes and security told them to call me so I can have a nurse open the door -_- All in all, besides the security I absolutely loved my stay this time around. The staff was amazing and they worked great with each other, no patient information was lost in between shifts. I felt like they really went out of their way to make me feel like my newborn daughter and I were their only patients.
