Update 12/5:: I was contacted by the owner Dr. K ( there are 2 Dr. K) who was very concerned I didnt have the BEST experience possible. He spent over 10-15 mins over the phone going over my treatment options and explaining the different things that I could occur as a new pet owner. He also volunteered to personally see Charlie for a quick exam and gave him his 1st set of vaccines free. I am very glad this place is ran by someone who cares. He could have just brushed off the review however he made an effort to truly show compassion for my puppy and to make sure I felt good after leaving this time. Although my initial visit wasnt as I thought it should be Dr. K made up for it the 2nd time around. Thank You! I had just gotten my puppy and less than 24 hours he began vomiting and had diarrhea. I did a google search for a vet open on Sunday and found this place. It was easy to get in and I saw they advertised free exam. One of the receptionist was really nice the other older lady looked as if she could care less. I should have known anything free would come with a price. We saw Dr. K he wasnt as nice as these other reviews claim. The experience I got was much different. I tried explaining that I had given the puppy new food than his previous owners and assumed that was the issue. Dr K brushed that off and immediately suggested Parvo and fecal testing. $87 off top. I then was told it would be 20 mins for results, it took more like 45. Parvo was neg and they found a few eggs. He said it was nothing big and we would do a small treatment. Well that treatment ended up being $200. Dr K came in and showed me the price, I told him I needed to check if I had that available as this was very last minute. It seem after I didnt readily agree to pay the mood changed, he left me to think about it for another 20 mins then came back asking if I was ready to pay. I asked what was the minimum needed to keep the pet healthy he said I needed everything he suggested. He offered to lower the balance by $30 and said that was all he could do. For me to see the vet I still dont know if my puppy is ok. He didnt give any guidance as to if he looked healthy other than the vomiting, he didnt suggest any shots or treatment plans. After finally agreeing to pay the treatment he then asked for my debit card right in the treatment room. I felt discriminated against, just because I didnt jump to pay the fee I now had to be ridiculed and have the DR. swipe my card in the room with the tech present...REALLY! After making sure my payment went through I was then sent to the front for a receipt. VERY UPSETTING. Why couldnt I pay upfront as well? I got home and 2 hours later got another call from DR. K saying I needed more medication and that it was cheap. So today I went and spent another $15. I wont be going back here and Im pretty surprised there arent other not so good experiences. I will follow up with another vet in town I felt like treatment here was all about the MONEY. On the plus side whatever meds I paid for worked and my puppy is just fine today.

Dr. Kakarla, or as my grandchildren and I call him, Dr. K," is a wonderful veterinarian. He saved my dogs life! I brought her in when she just seemed dehydrated from a stomach issue but then she collapsed while there. She was suddenly in dire condition. Dr. K was clear and honest with me about his level of concern and quickly ordered tests and an IV while waiting for the results. He was able to diagnose the problem, start her on the necessary meds, watch her as she responded and thankfully, send her home with me several hours later with a treatment plan. He treats both of our dogs with great care and respect. He explains everything carefully (to me and my young grandchildren) and has always been mindful of the costs of treatment. He has often given me options explaining the cost and benefit of each. For example, he explained the costs of the tests and initial treatment for my dog and then that the best ongoing option for my dog is a once a month injection. However, when I saw the cost comparison to pills, I had to go with the pills. He then found a source of the medicine more in line with the tablet cost and offered to teach me how to give the injection. I am very grateful for his quality of care. My dog is again thriving and seems to be living well and happily in spite of her disease. I will gladly drive from Durham to keep both dogs in his care. Plus, his clinic is beautiful! I noticed right away that his "office" is right in the middle of the main treatment room - close to the animals we all love. Everything is state of the art - designed with both the animals and their caregivers in mind. He even has a separate cat room explaining that cats dont like the smell of other animals. I was very impressed to learn that and see such a positive response.

I cannot begin to express how impressed I was with Walnut Street Animal Hospital. Our family is transitioning from up North, and hadnt found a vet yet when our Bichon/Spaniel mix got really sick. I called the office and although they were booked, agreed to see me when I described her symptoms. This was my first indication that Walnut street puts their clients before convenience and it only got better from there. I brought her in that evening, had a detailed exam by Dr. K,and was offered various options for a plan of care. He did not pressure me in any way and made me feel like a valued partner. Dr. K agreed to treat her even though it was less than an hour before closing. My little one was very sick and ended up needing IV fluids and antibiotic treatment. Dr K and the staff stayed late that night to get her stable with not one complaint. The entire staff just created an atmosphere of warmth and generosity. We took our little one home with detailed instructions, emergency numbers, instructions to bring her back for more fluids if she didnt improve and lots of well wishes from staff. She did have to go back the next day and my experience again was just as impressive. Dr. K is a great vet and his staff is top notch. They genuinely care about the animals they treat and the families they serve. I am so glad that we found Walnut Strees Animal Hospital, their quality care and warm communication have made it a place we will stay with as our permanent vet home.

Last Sunday evening my 2-year-old lab retriever (Budha) felt constipated and started throwing up multiple times. I couldn’t find any local vet that was open late. Living in Fayetteville, NC I googled to see if there were any private vets open to avoid an emergency office visit which could have been very expensive. I found out that Walnut Street Animal Hospital is open until 6PM, called this hospital around 5:30 PM. Dr. K talked to me over the phone and explained to me that he was thinking of a GI obstruction (confirming my suspicion). He even offered to stay back beyond their regular hours on a long weekend while we headed out to Cary, NC for an exam. Dr. Ks team was ready when we got there. They did a quick exam and recommended radiographs. I was impressed by the quality of their HD digital radiographs. Dr.K showed me the foreign body (my 8year olds sock!) in the small intestine and offered to do the abdominal laparotomy. Upon my approval he proceeded with the surgery and removed the foreign body. By the time they were done it was 10.30 PM! As a Family Physician myself, I was very impressed at Dr. K and his team for their selfless dedication in saving our Budhas life! Because any delay in providing care could have been detrimental. I cannot thank him more for going above & beyond in providing care and saving our Budha! Thank you Dr. K and team at Walnut Street Animal Hospital. Keep up your amazing work!
