All they care about is money..I came in with 3 year old Yorkie who had been attacked by another dog. The doctor explained he would need surgery and explained that it could be a more simple surgery and the cost would be approximately 2200 and if he started it and found more extensive damage it would be a more expensive surgery and his recovery chances would go down depending on what he found. Money was very tight and we had barely enough to cover the first estimate. We asked if he could call us once he started operating and let us know before proceeding with the more extensive part if he found more damage. I left my number, and my daughter left her number, just in case they had any issues getting a hold of one number. After waiting well past the time he said he would be finishing up, we called to check. I was told that they tried both numbers and couldn’t get ether to ring or go through so they continued with the more extensive surgery anyway. Once we talked with the vet we were told that these types of crushing injury’s very frequently lead to swollen organs which can cause a lot of damage, this was NOT told to us before the surgery. When I picked him up I was told that he wasn’t eating and I should come in for a bandage change in 2 days and that would not be an extra charge. I was concerned why they would be sending him home when he wasn’t eating, but I accepted that the doctor knew best. I came in 2 days later for the bandage change. The doctor put the new bandage on and said he was doing great and had a 90% chance of survival. I explained that he still was not eating, which was a concern of mine. They gave him some appetite stimulants to see if that would help with him eating. They also charged me for the bandage change. The next day when I got home from work he had labored breathing. I called and was told if I came in it would be an emergency vet visit as I was told by the reception “you have been in and out of here a lot”. At this point I had no choice but to come in, but was not happy that they would charge us the ER vet cost or with the attitude of the receptionist. When we got there we were told different information than what we were told originally. The doctor told me that with an injury like this they were not equipped to do the surgery my dog really needed, as this would require a chest tube and ventilator. My dog ended up dying in my arms from what they think was an infectious liquid in his chest cavity and it was pressing on his lungs. I don’t understand why this wasn’t caught when I brought him in the day before. No mention of a possible infection even though I told the doctor he still wasn’t eating. From start to finish I don’t feel that my dogs best interest was at the heart of this. I felt I was nickeled and dimed the whole time. I don’t feel I was given all the facts to make an informed decision and I was definitely not given the choice to do a more extensive surgery. The total I spent there was $3200 and with all of these facts and the fact that my dog is no longer with us and I am not sure that their practice isn’t at fault for that, I tried to come to some resolution, which they ignored. I was told by the vet that the surgery was indeed a success!!! Dont understand why he would say that when my dog is dead.

After going to both Quail Corners & Hidden Valley Animal Hospitals for 25+ years with our dogs and cats, I very strongly urge everyone to avoid them now. They have been bought out by National Veterinary Association within the last couple of years. They now seem to only care about the bottom line. Rates have gone up considerably and compassionate care has gone down. Kevin the administrative manager appears to be good, but I have had two very bad experiences with Quail Corners recently. Three weeks ago, my puppy was brought in on a Sunday evening, the vet found it to be a simple very small piece of wicker (less than 1/4 inch) that was crossways in her rectum. He was very happy with the outcome when he CAME IN TO TELL US. It had been removed no COMPLICATIONS! hE SAID that they would bath her bottom & we would be given some antibiotics and a salve for her rear. Shortly later he returned with her in his arms, blood coming from her nose & said that there had been a terrible accident and that there was trauma to her throat, she needed O2 & he advised to keep her overnight for observation. My wife stayed with her all night & through the next day when she died at 1:30 PM because her lungs had filled with fluid. tHE GAUGES ON THE OXYGEN CONTAINER THEY DIDNT BELIEVE AND SAID THEY WERE FAULTY. WHEN ASKED TO PUT NEW GAUGES ON THEY NEVER DID!! The "crash cart" was not properly fSET UP when they tried to save her and they went hunting around for "things". Because of their very improper handling of her, they killed her. We have two signed letters from the DVMs who treated her that it was their fault that our puppy died. We subsequently found out that they had improperly used a head restraint. This on a 4 month old puppy who weighed 10 lbs and loved to be bathed. Never put up any resistent. There was NO MEDICAL SUPERVISION. On an earlier occassion one of our dogs was misdiagnosed and I was told that she had been pinched by a twig or something. We knew it was a snake bite but the vet didnt believe us. With signs of infection, and trying to use peroxide on the wound. I took her back, a different DVM saw her and said yes "snake bite" and treated her with antibiotics. Thank God she weighed 90 lbs If she was smaller she would have been dead.. Their parent company NVA out of Augora Hills, CA. When I spoke with the VP of Operations, I did not get an acknowledgement of sympathy even, but was told that IF they were resposible (after 2 signed statements from the treating DVMs that the facility was responsible) that accidents happen. A true bean counter, no emotions. Caustic, arrogant!! DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO ONE OF YOUR PETS!!!!!!!! GO TO Veterinary Speciality Hospital that just opened in Raleigh just a couple more miles from Quail Corners. They have a great reputations. There are numerous other 24 hour emergency clinics. If you love your pets STAY away from any NVA Hospital and especially Quail Corners Animal Hospital in Raleigh, NC. There hospitals do not say anything about being owned by NVA in Augora Hills,California YOU HAVE TO ASK!! They do not want people to know they are NO LONGER an independent veterinary Hospital. Profit and loss center and it is only the botom line that matters.

I dont know why people gave Quail Corners Animal Hospital 1 star. They saved both my dogs lives last night. My girls both ingested what could have been some sort of toxin or poison and were gravely Ill. I took them to another vet who charged me $1000 to tell me they didnt know what was wrong with them. At 11 o clock at night I took my two cane corsos into emergency care for help. Savannah and Lucy were both losing blood from there rectums, drooling excessiviley, vomiting, and generally were not responsive. I thought they were both going to die before I took them to Dr. Isaacs. Dr. Isaacs immediately got them back, got them hooked up to IVs and explained to my wife and I exactly what he thought we needed to do. My girls could not eat, drink or control their bladders when they first came in. After 48 hours they are not out of the woods yet, but they are 100 times better. Taking in fluids, starting to get their appetites back, and getting their bowels under control. Their estimate was higher than the cost Im actually paying, but most of all my dogs are going to survive. Every thing that needs to be done and the amount it would cost has been told to me up front, and there were no suprises. Medical bills cost money its just a fact of life. The staff in the back has let me come in for hours and sit with my dogs day or night for as long as I want. They have all been so nice to my wife and I, and the care for my girls has been excellent. Dr. Isaacs, Dr. V, and Dr. Gjessen have shown my family and I the utmost caring and compassion. I have had numerous veterinarians through out the years, and no matter what at times care is gong to cost money, its a fact of being a dog owner. I have read some of these reviews about the cost and I will say I have had 2 dogs over 100 lbs each here for emergency care for 2 nights now, and yes it was expensive but at the same time my dogs are going to survive. If a dog leaves a vet and still dies sometimes it could be because they missed something or it could be because the dog was ill. I have the utmost confidence and trust in QCAH staff and Doctors to take care of my girls. I will say I dont think my dogs would have survived the night with out their help. After 1 trip I have changed them to my primary veternarians because I was that impressed with the care of my girls. Thank you all for taking care of my girls it means the world to my wife and I.
