Cliff-notes: lackadaisical emergency staff, over priced vet, cold environment, and unwelcoming front desk and absent Veterinarian doctor. My roommate calls me saying my dog cut the heal of his front paw while they were playing outside. I come home and cant stop the bleeding enough to feel comfortable just bandaging him up. My normal Vet isnt open late, its almost 8pm. This place pulls up first on Google for emergency vet. My other roommate drives us over there so I can keep the makeshift bandage on my dogs paw and we get to this place just after 8. Im the only one in the waiting room with another patient already being seen. My dog is bleeding still fairly badly and its seeping through the bandage. Were waiting to be seen while my dog is literally bleeding in my hands. About half an hour later Im finally taken into one of patient rooms, its 8:30pm now at this point and my dog isnt liking being here. I should have listened to my dog then and left. ITS 9PM and a random tech finally decides to saunter into the room and proceeds to take vitals. I dont care if its "standard procedure" to do so... My doh is still bleeding on me from his paw and all you do is scratch his head and listen to his heart beat then leave. You dont attempt to stem the bleeding or anything. So I go back to trying to wait patiently with my dog as he whimpers wanting to leave. ITS NOW 9:36PM!! AND I FINALLY GET SEEN BY A DOCTOR. Over an hour and half later I get seen by a doctor and she does nothing. She literally proceed to takes vitals again for no reason and says the its not so bad, and after two minutes of not doing anything about the bleeding, she leaves saying shell work up an estimate. Meanwhile my dog is super unhappy at still being in this lackadaisical emergency vet and is still bleeding into my hands. Its now 10pm and I get an estimate for $890 to sedate and perform surgery to clean up the cut and put a bandage on his ankle. I look at the tech who initially saw my dog after she hands me that quote and all for a minute to reviewand understand this outlandish estimate. She comes back in and say to get this is a joke and hand her back the estimate. At no point leading up getting this, was surgery ever discussed or ever mentioned. She presents me a second estimate for $290 for a brief clean up, a bandage and a round of meds to prevent infection. This is still absurd price and highway robbery. I was tempted to just walk out and refuse payment. But my dog is still bleeding in my hands, crying and wanting to leave, but I cant wait any longer, Ive wasted my time at this place for almost two hours and need to get my dog home. I pay the ridiculous price and leave. The front desk woman was cold and ignorant. The tech was seemingly useless besides telling me my dog was well behaved and giving me ridiculous numbers. And I didnt even get to see the actual veterinarian long enough to get the doctors name, she left so fast. This place seems to care only about charging ridiculous sums and collecting money. I will never return to this place.

Many of times I had to deal with this emergency clinic. I have small animals that have needed care in the past. One of the times I took my rabbit that was acting funny and I thought might have a hurt limb. I brought her in and tried to explain what was happening and the doctor said she was going to examine her in the back (which I hate). They brought her back and said nothing looked wrong with her and they could keep her overnight for monitoring and it would cost me $800 that I did not have. I brought her back home sad with $150 less in my pocket. Arriving home and taking her out of her crate a noticed a NOTICEABLE red swollen mark on the upper shoulder that in my panic at the vet forgot to mention. (but since I mentioned possible hurt limb I thought they would notice) And when she told me nothing was wrong I thought I might have been seeing things in my panic when initially putting her in her crate. So really me taking her there did nothing, just took my money. Which I actually should have called for a refund. My regular Vet AVIAN AND EXOTIC ANIMAL CARE which are wonderful, were defending the doctors there saying it could have been easily missed. Which is NOT true because I noticed it and watching Dr. Leonetti perform regular exams on my rabbit I KNOW there is no way it would have been missed, I honestly do not doubt that my rabbit was even seen. But the last straw was when I found an injured bird and was asked by CLAWS (wildlife rehabilitation) to leave the bird there and they would contact her and she would pic him up in the morning. I called the next day to make sure Kendra from Claws had picked it up and the lady that answered the phone said she had no idea and they could not tell me anything. She wasnt a least bit kind and understanding. She was acting like a smart Alec saying they didnt have time to follow up with people about wildlife and that the doctors there were very busy and if they were to do that they would be on the phone all day long. Made me feel like the birds life had ZERO importance. As I insisted with her to figure out a way to give me info she cut me off and said, " oh yea we had to kill him" and I was like, "didnt you just tell me you had no information, and now you are telling me they had to kill him. Then she gave me this lame excuse that someone that was there knew about it. I was just extremely distraught and she made sure to remind me that they dont get paid for that. As if we dont get paid for it we can do what we want, as if this animal care facility only cares about paying customers which clearly they dont. These were just 2 occurrences. I can definitely name more but I am sure you are tired of reading by now if you actually read this far. Was recommended a better emergency clinic for my animals and will be sure to never return to this vet office again!

I had to take my pet to the Animal Emergency Hospital here in Raleigh and while I was absolutely pleased with the extensive knowledge and bedside manner of Dr. Rik Wyatt, unfortunately the same can definitely not be said of Dr. Vicki Sellers. Dr. Sellers has horrendous bedside manner -- something no pet owner should have to deal with in addition to a sick pet. Meanwhile, Dr. Sellers definitely does not have strong communication skills when explaining medical terminology in laymans terms (fortunately, this is not problematic for me, but it definitely can be for potential customers). Most importantly, Dr. Sellers is a poor listener -- in my first (and last) interaction with her she exhibited that she does not take the time to fully listen to a pet owners concerns (i.e., talking over the customer, etc.). The young man at the front desk proved to be more well-equipped to interface with customers than the actual doctor (Dr. Sellers) on staff. While I cant speak to her medical knowledge, her customer facing skills are seriously lacking. This experience, however, is like night and day when compared to Dr. Wyatt. Not only was Dr. Wyatt knowledgeable and courteous, you could tell that he offered a genuine concern for the health of my pet. Pricing is not a major concern given it is an emergency hospital so you can expect to pay premium pricing (no surprises there). However, for the experience in dealing with a lackluster doctor (i.e. Dr. Sellers) its not particularly worth it. Unfortunately, given my experience with Dr. Sellers, I will not bring my pet to the Animal Emergency Hospital here in Raleigh ever again and have chosen another highly recommended vet in the area. If I had not had an interaction with Dr. Sellers, I would have given them 4-5 stars, but my displeasure with her overall care wouldnt warrant it. Its unfortunate that one bad apple can ruin it for the whole bunch.
