I just need to commend Dr. Putkonen. I came in this morning with my bunny who was critically ill. I had a feeling upon walking into the clinic that my bunny had passed before I even got in the door :( I was greeted by a welcoming staff, who were compassionate, quick and empathetic when I realized he had in fact passed. They called Dr. Putkonen in immediately to confirm. Knowing nothing of my bunnys history (I had been to three different emergency vet clinics in the last 12 hrs where no one would/could help me with my "exotic" animal) since my husband had literally found their number earlier that morning, he came in, confirmed my bunny had passed and began to ask me questions about him. When I told him my bunny was 12 years old he immediately exclaimed "my goodness! 12 years! I think he is the oldest bunny I have ever met! You all gave him 3-4 years more than most bunnies.. he must have been one happy little guy!! Good job!" Those words gave me comfort. He didnt ask me why I didnt get him there sooner, he didnt criticize me for not bringing my little guys records. He simply comforted me and my son and didnt charge me for this incredibly short visit. I am thankful for this staff as this was extremely difficult for me and my family. If we lived closer I would definitely chose this practice as our home vet all day every day. Thank you for everything, it seriously meant the world to us.

It was 10 years ago that I first walked into Avon Animal and Bird Hospital, and Dr. Putkonen saved my dogs life. My beautiful dog went on to live for almost another decade (he was 2 months shy of his 17th birthday when I had to say good-bye). It was through Dr. Putkonens (and Dr. Polings and Dr. Olives when we had appointments with them) guidance, that my dog lived a long, happy life. The doctors are compassionate and knowledgeable, and I appreciated all of it. The staff was also terrific. My dog had a lot of health problems, and the staff got to know me so well that most of them recognized my voice on the phone. They were always compassionate, professional, and friendly, and I really appreciated them as well. I initially picked Avon Animal Hospital because it was a 2.5-mile (5-minute, no exaggeration) drive from my home at the time. Since I first took my dog there, I moved, and my drive turned into a 24-mile (one way) trip, but I still took my dog to Avon Animal hospital because of how much trust I had in them. I felt that no one could ever treat my dog as well as Dr. Putkonen did. I have no plans on adopting another furry friend, but if I did, I would happily and with confidence make that 24-mile trip to take my pet to the best veterinarian clinic: Avon Animal Hospital. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I have two dogs with aggression issues. They had gotten in a fight and I took the injured one in to have her wounds looked at. When I arrived, the staff was very friendly and had us in a room in a timely manner. Dr. Putkonen gave one glance at her leg and said she would be fine. He didnt look any closer or bother to even kneel down and look. He asked my mother and I about how we could prevent this from happening. When we told him our dogs were in training he said that it was pointless and wouldnt change their behavior. He proceeded to tell us we should put one of the dogs up for adoption because we werent giving them the life they deserved. He could see he was upsetting us but continued to be rude and incredibly inconsiderate. I will never recommend this animal hospital and have never been treated so poorly when trying to care for my dog.

I used to live close to this clinic. One day my beagle got out and ran out into Detroit rd where he was struck by a car. I ran out into the road in front of the clinic and picked up my dog. I walked straight inside to have him looked at as he was showing symptoms of shock for the vet on duty to refuse to look at him because I didnt have any form of payment on me at that moment. Mind you, I just ran out into the road and scooped my bleeding dog up off the pavement. Who thinks to grab their purse first? Very disappointed in the lack of compassion for a hurt possibly dying animal

After seeing all the doctors with my animals, Dr. Poling is very compassionate and my animals love her. Dr. Olive is very personable and caring about your animals my animals adore her. As for Dr. Putkonen, he is rude and careless. I feel, that he rushes through his work and doesnt take a thorough exam. My animals are not a fan of him. I would give Dr. Poling and Dr. Olive a 5 out 5 on rating but Dr. Putkonen I would only be able to give a 1 out of 5, if that.

The vets and staff here are wonderful. My pup is so dear to me and they take such good care of her. Shes usually nervous at the vets but since we started taking her to Doc, shes been a lot less anxious about her checkups. Even though weve moved farther away, were still taking the extra time to drive her here. Highly reccomend.

This veterinarian office was amazing! Appointment was easy to make and staff were friendly. Dr. Putkonen took excellent care of our ill bunnies and answered all of our questions. He was absolutely wonderful and I will definitely return in the future. Thank you Dr. Putkonen for taking such great care of my daughters bunnies :)

When I took my turtle to be looked at by Dr Putkonnen, I could tell he knew how to handle him properly. So this is where I go now. The Dr. also worked with my sons crested gecko and we were both pleased. He is very experienced and knowledgeable, and it shows. Id highly recommend him if you have exotics.

Love all the vets they have there, Drs Putkonen, Poling and Olive. They truly care about each and every animal in their care. Trust them completely. The staff there is wonderful as well. Would highly recommend the Avon Animal & Bird Hospital to anyone with a pet.

Dr Jennifer Olive is the best Dr that I’ve ever taken my animals to. She is compassionate, highly educated, extremely knowledgeable and just a great person overall. If you are contemplating which Dr to take your animal to look no further! You will love her!

The bad reviews about dr Putkonen are from butt hurt people. He is an amazing vet! I took my snake to see him and he was amazing. He is honest and people dont like it.
