I miss the no nonsense style of Dr. Hecht. He never tried to push extra tests and would provide extraordinarily good prices. Hes retired and has been for a long time, so I suck it up. The current front desk staff and vet techs are friendly and knowledgeable. Ive taken many pets to this clinic and had mixed results over the years. I had a Great Dane that had GI problems that not one single vet was ever able to diagnose or cure. When I finally had to have her euthanized at age 11 the vet failed to give her the proper dosage. He had to give her an additional shot. Ive never had that experience before. I stopped going to this clinic for a while based on a few reasons: 1) never knowing what vet you would see; 2) slow service; and 3) too much upselling of tests and services!! I have many cats. One of my girls developed serious GI problems. I had taken her to several different vets and no one ever diagnosed or cured her problem. She nearly died at 15th St. Vet, though I do believe they had given proper care. She lived for more than a year after that. She improved for nearly a year before going downhill again. I decided to return to Hechts. A new vet, Dr. Downing was now at Hechts. I LOVE Dr. Downing. She is very good, and I got to the point where she was the only one I wanted to see. We still didnt get my girl diagnosed and I lost her at age 11. She did have good care at Dr. Hecths and so did all of my other cats that Ive taken there. Also, my little pitbull had surgery there and was very well cared for by Dr. Downing. They did have to repeat the surgery as the tumor was not completely removed the first time. I wasnt too happy about that, but I also believed what they told me about the difficulty in finding all of the mast. I did not like having to put my dog under anesthesia twice and it did cost even though I was given a discount for the second surgery. But, she is doing great now. There are pros and cons to this clinic. Pros are they are courteous, and more often than not they provide great care. I dont want to be upsold on a bunch of other tests and procedures. No one ever made me feel guilty if I opted out. The cons are that they change veterinarians all the time! I think they get them fresh out off of graduation from veterinarian school. The turnover rate seems to be high. I hate that. I just want one vet that I trust and connect with. If you can find a vet at Dr. Hects that you like and trust its worth it to go there. For me, its just so darned convenient since they are very close to my house. That means the short car time is much less stressful for my pets. You have different vets to choose from so when you find one you like then check to see when they are available. Their prices are comparable to 15th St. Vet Clinic. Ive not been to any other clinics in years, so I dont know how they compare to other Tulsa vet clinics. When I called the other day about a cat neutered the girl tried to add on a bunch of other tests, which basically, turned me off. I will have this cat neutered somewhere else. They also seemed overpriced for a male neuter job.

I know nothing about the actual Vets here. My experience was with the office staff only, so they could have the best vets in the world & I wouldnt know it. These people took a very traumatic experience and made it so much more traumatic than it already was...we had just moved here, and our dog had cancer. A little over a month after our move here, we lost our 14 year old dog. We wanted to have her cremated so that we could put her ashes on the mantle. Considering the situation, we chose to go to the vet closest to our house. When we went there, they were very good about explaining what our options were. This was around 4:30 or so on a Monday afternoon. I was told that we would have her ashes back Thursday or Friday. They use an outside company for this, and they pick up on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and they had already picked up that day. I gave them my name and phone number, and they assured me that they would call me when I could pick her up. I called on Thursday to check, and was told that it should be Friday. She told me that day that it sometimes takes up to 3 days, & since she wasnt picked up until Wednesday it may take an extra day. I called on Monday, and she still wasnt there. That day I was told that this process takes 2 weeks. I asked them to call the place that actually does this, and they told me they would call and call me back. That was at about 2:00 pm. I then called back around 5:00, and was told that the woman "hadnt had time to call". Evidently 3 hours is not enough time to make a phone call. I gave her my name and number again, & she stated that she would call them first thing in the morning & then call me back. The next day (Tuesday) I called the place myself (Pet Memories). I left a message, and the man did actually call me back. He explained that he tells the vet offices to tell people that it takes a week. He said that when hes not really busy, he can often get the ashes returned more quickly, and the vet offices get used to that so they tell people that... So the next day...Wednesday...I called them again. They finally told me that I could come pick her up. When I went in to pick her up, they told me that they tried to call me but my phone was shut off. Completely untrue...my phone was not shut off. This was an incredibly traumatic experience, and they made it drag on for an extra week. All they had to do was tell me that it would be a week, and I would have known. I wouldnt have been happy, because I wanted her back home, but I wouldve understood. But these people had my hopes up daily and then gave me a different answer every time I called. And rather than ever call me, they lied to me and told me my phone was shut off. Again, I know nothing about the vets here...but I have have 4 dogs and a cat, and I will NEVER go back in that office again.

I originally took my cat to Hecht Veterinary Hospital, because my mother-in-law recommend it. She takes all of her dogs there and claims to have had good experiences. Four years ago, I took my cat in for her kitten vaccinations and the staff was polite and knowledgeable, but the place had a weird vibe. Last month, I returned to Hecht because my cat was puking multiple times a day and losing weight rapidly. Once again I felt the weird vibe, and was able to put my finger on what it was. They treat animals almost like humans, which can be nice, but I feel is unnecessary. When I was finally taken to an exam room, a technician came in to examine my cat, much like a nurse would in a hospital. Then after about 10 minutes the actual veterinarian came in to look at my cat, and after feeling around on her abdomen, he pronounced that he needed to do blood work and x-rays. I was a little overwhelmed and just wanted my dear cat to feel better, so I agreed-- and then he said they needed to keep my cat to give her a bag of IV fluids. I hate leaving her behind, the one time I had left her at a vets office before, her attitude was so changed, it was like she was a different cat. It took me months of spoiling and pampering her to get her to behave like her normal loving self. I reluctantly left her behind, but returned as soon as possible the next day to pick her up and hear the results of the tests. A technician brought her out and explained that she had some disease in her blood, and prescribed an antibiotic, steroid, and nausea medication for my cat. I have owned cats before, but I had never had such an expensive visit to a veterinarian. Five weeks later, I finished giving all of the two weeks worth of medicine to my cat, and she got better while on the medication, but started to puke again soon after I stopped giving it to her. Last week she started puking more often and had lost weight again, so I knew I would have to take her to the vet again, but I was hesitant to go back to Hecht, since I dont have the financial capacity to spend so much again. I looked at several places on Google and picked one with good reviews. This other place was much more understanding of my financial situation. Unlike the veterinarian at Hecht, I was offered choices for treatment. The situation was also explained more clearly to me than at Hecht, where they just stated what was wrong and gave me mediation. The new vet visit ended up costing a third of what I paid at Hecht. Over all, I didnt have a horrible experience at Hecht, but I didnt have a good one either. I wont be returning to Hecht, since the new place I went to understands my needs better. If you have a lot of money and dont really want to know whats wrong with your pet, then Hecht is a perfect place for you to go. That just wasnt what I needed or wanted from a veterinarian.
