Recently visited with my puppy who was injured. Within a day was told my dog wasnt improving but getting worse. That he had alot of fluid in the brain. Then it was that it was his nervous system. Recommended that I put him to sleep. Called another vet for a second opinion. When I called back to speak to someone about sending over my dogs records to the other vet was told they would but needed to type them up, never did. Moments later Karen called me saying that I was ungrateful for all they did for me. She had discounted treatments and friends of Otis had donated $75 towards my 6 month old puppies bill. I never asked for any discounts and never asked for the donation. She had already put everything in my bill. So because I was taking my puppy to another vet who said that they may be able to help she insulted me and said that if she had known that I had alot of money since I was willing to pay services of two vet clinics that she wouldve charged me full price on everything, never wouldve asked friends of Otis for the donation. She told me as long as I donate something back we were square. Never apologized and never wished my puppy the best or a speedy recovery just plain out rude and spiteful. Will never go to this veterinary clinic again. I picked up my puppy and asked when was the last time he was given pain medication and was told earlier but couldnt give me an actual time. The receptionist just kept guessing. Asked about pain meds they were supposed to give and special food to give me since it would be a day before I could take to the other vet. Was told the pain medication they injected him with last 24 hours of which they didnt know how long the 24 hour time that the medication would expire since they had no clue when it was given to him. They told me just buy him any puppy food from the stores. When originally before knowing about me calling another clinic they told me they were going to give me pain pills for him and some high protein food. But since I was taking him else where they no longer wanted to help him with what he needed. My puppy was in severe pain and worse off than when I had dropped him off. They handled him roughly when bringing him out to me with my puppy crying at the top of his lungs. Waste of a day and half, they just kept injecting him with steroids and pain medications but never ran more test to see if he could be saved. Instead they wanted me to put him down. With the other vet my puppy is showing improvements, still not at 100% but happy he is at least improving. Cuz at this clinic he was only getting worse. No matter what always get second opinions never give up on ur pets. Thank you friends of Otis and yes I made a $20 donation when I paid the bill and let them know to tell Karen since she said when I make the donation to make sure they make her aware. Worse service ever if you dont know how to treat the animal and ur not sure what your looking for then please admit it and quit wasting peoples time and money. My dogs are my family and this clinic treated him like he was nothing. Shame on you all making it about money. I pray the owners see these bad experiences and reach out to the unsatisfied customers to hear what we have to say.

I recently moved to this area and was looking for a good vet. It was time for an exam and vaccine boost for my three cats. I went to NB Vet Clinic hoping to find a caring vet that would get to know my cats and be a good source of information. We had been going to military vets overseas prior, so we were used to a pretty high standard of care. I feel like I should have looked into vaccine procedures beforehand, but I did not. Dr. Doody performed the vaccinations on all three cats, as well as examining them. The exam did not seem very thorough, especially considering one of my cats is around 10 years old. The teeth were ignored and no recommendations were made as far as senior food or questions about current state. The rabies, the crp and feline leukemia were given to all three. All vaccines were given between the shoulder blades, a practice that has been reported to be unsafe since 2002. I had no idea until after. The reason for this is that if a cat were to develop a cancer from the vaccine, it is virtually untreatable in the scruff of the neck. Also, it is a common practice to put vaccines in multiple areas, not all in the same place. The injection sites were not massaged, either. All of this is disturbing enough but there was unfortunately more. My oldest cat seemed pretty disturbed during the shots, which I thought was normal. I reached around to hold her from the front and I discovered that the needle the doctor had in her had poked through her skin and the vaccine was being dripped on her outside. I wasnt too alarmed, as I thought it was an honest mistake. He then just repoked her and used what was left in the needle without knowing what was lost. That actually bothered me quite a bit. The following night I noticed that all the hair about an inch around the injection site had fallen out. The skin in the area was scaly and disturbed. In the morning, I called the clinic. They sounded a little defensive, even then. I brought my kitty in and they took her back without me for the vet to see. When they brought her back they said that she did have a reaction but that I should call them if it doesnt get better within a month. That seemed like I being dismissed. I asked the receptionist if they thought that anything else would happen. They said that this would be the worst of it and I should not worry. Two days later, I called back because more hair was lost and the skin seemed more disturbed. The receptionist said that it was a reaction that wasnt common but also not serious. I told her that I felt like I wasnt being given any information. I complained that I was not even given the option to see the doctor and ask questions. She got defensive and said that they had not done anything wrong. I said that I did not want to offend her but that I needed to know that I was doing everything I need to do to care for my cat. She told me to put neosporin on the site and wait to see if it gets better. I hung up out of frustration at that point and will not go back. Since then I have found another vet who specializes in cats and will not be going back to this clinic.

I have taken my pets to Dr. Granthams office since 1998 (when they were still on Seguin Ave.) when my family first moved to New Braunfels. I have always been impressed not just with the low cost but most importantly the level of care my dogs have received from them. I adopted a deaf and partially blind 10 year old cocker spaniel from a shelter in San Antonio a few years ago and everyone at the clinic took very good care of him whenever I brought him in. They loved on him and showed him affection just as if he were home. When Buster got sick, he was dehydrating and because surgery was far too risky, they gave him fluid treatments every MWF for a month, hardly charging me anything. He was fine for awhile, but it was soon discovered he had a brain tumor and had to be put to sleep. All of the technicians, nurses and vets came in to say "bye" to my Buster before he passed and we were all around him, petting him as the shot was administered. It was very compassionate and loving. I couldnt have asked for a better response in such a dire situation. I now, sadly, live in Houston, but return to New Braunfels often and only use NB Vet Clinic. They are worth my 3 hour drive to have my "boys" treated so well. I now have an 11 year old lhasa apso (my parents dog) and a 3 year old cocker spaniel and they both love visiting there (even though the lhasa used to be quite the escape artist when staying there lol). I trust no one else with my boys. Give them a try - you wont regret it!
