Im a past employee, and told myself I was not going to write a review because of my own hurt feelings. Its been almost 6 months since I walked out of this place, so I dont really have any reason to write anything on my own behalf. I do my best to not write harsh reviews, but I feel like I really need to in this case. A couple days ago I received a message that mirrored my exact feelings about this office from a patients mother I befriended while working here. Id rather wreck my reputation at this office than have the mothers review effect their child. So here we are. If you are looking at having your child seen at this location, I would say go for it. The office is beautiful, the assistants (for the most part) are kind to each other, and the dentist is really quick and does GREAT work. However, I DO NOT recommend you leave your child alone at this office!! GO BACK INTO THE APPOINTMENT WITH THEM!! I understand a lot of kids cant sit through appointments and this is an office for children that really need it, but for the sake of protecting your child, do not run errands while your kids are alone here. There is one person in particular at this office (if you have ever as much as stepped foot in the front door, you know who Im speaking of) who is very aggressive. They have a reputation of cornering anyone and everyone (including kids) and making harsh comments/conversation. The dentist office is already a scary place for kids, no matter how beautiful the rooms are. They already feel vulnerable and nervous. An adult cutting them down and speaking to them like they arent a human magnifies those feelings. GO TO THE ROOM WITH THEM. STAND UP FOR THEM IF YOU HEAR SOMEONE DISRESPECT THEM. They feel so small in those chairs, someone has to say something for them. They are more sensitive then you think when a parent isnt with them. I had the option to leave and never go back, but kids dont have that option. They dont have the voice in them yet to feel like they can say "thats uncalled for" to an adult. Enjoy the environment, ooo and ahhh at the decorations, but please, watch out for your kid. On behalf of my friend who let me know about what happened a few days ago, Im writing this. Their family needs to stay at this office because of their childs anxiety, but I dont ever have to go back. & Ill butcher my own name if it means help protecting a sensitive kid. As someone who works with kids, I feel like its my duty to advocate for them when possible.

With a family history of teeth issues we wanted to find a great dentist for our kids and Dr. James office exceeded all expectations. The front staff were incredibly helpful and sweet both on the phone and in person. The waiting room and all of the procedure rooms are like fairytales come to life, engaging for the children, lots for them to do while they wait. The cleaning appointments were great and thorough, all three of my kids loved it (esp the toy room to pick prizes from). My youngest needed some work done and it would take two visits to complete. Everything was done to make him feel comfortable and at ease, everyone who spoke to him was kind and gentle, all of his concerns were addressed. The flat screen TVs that move, 100+ movies to choose from, headphones to hear it and block out the drill, sunglasses for that annoying overhead light, scented nitrous oxide (which you can pick your flavor), wearing jammies for early morning appts, the experience was so amazing that after having the left side of his mouth done in August, he counted down the days until he could go back and cheered when we pulled up into the parking lot. My oldest went yesterday for sealant and my youngest went today to do the right side of him mouth, my middle child is protesting that its not fair she cant go to the dentist just because she has perfect teeth!

Today I took our almost 7 month old son in for his first dental exam and cleaning. From the moment my mom and I walked in the door, we were impressed. I did read prior reviews before taking our son in and noticed a couple poor ones. However, the positive reviews I found for Dr. James were/are numerous. The staff at the front desk were extremely kind. They spoke to us as if we were long time friends before kindly asking me to answer some questions about our son through their efficient computer check in process. The dental assistant greeted us warmly, and took us back to our room. She took some pictures of our son on his big day, and we even were able to take home one. Dr. James came in, spoke to our son kindly, and then gently cleaned iron stains off his teeth. Our son started to get a little fussy, so Dr. James sang to him while he cleaned! Afterward, our son (rather me, mom) was invited to pick out a nice toy. We then went to reception to pay our bill, which was quite reasonable. In fact, since we paid cash, we received a generous discount. I hope if you are looking for a pediatric dentist you visit Dr. James!

I would NOT recommend this office to anyone. The first time we went they were very unorganized and was given wrong information from his mom when I made the appointment. As far as the cleaning goes for my older daughter, it was just fluff and buff cleaning and she didnt get a very good cleaning so I started taking her to another dentist in town where I can see she is getting a deep clean. I did take my son again and we had to wait for over a half hour in the waiting room. Yes they have tons of fun stuff for the kids to do and look at but the person at the front is really hard to talk to and deal with. I heard this from my neighbor as well that the reason she would not take her kids there was because of how rude the mother was! Maybe he should not spend so much money on decorations and hire someone nice to the customers.

We have been taking our 3 children to Dentistry for Kids and seeing Dr. James for several years now. We have been nothing but THRILLED - from general cleaning all the way to seeing him in a hospital setting at Legacy Randall Childrens Hospital. The care was nothing but the best and SO KID FRIENDLY! Also, a shout out to his AWESOME STAFF... because they are patient with ALL kids. One of our children has sensory processing disorder and who knew you could request a dental hygienist who UNDERSTANDS a childs specific disorder! ALL of our kids love it when we tell them they are going to the dentist!

We had to move from Portland but I remember this dentist from three years ago. He is the best in the entire Country! We are in Indiana now and I would consider returning to Portland just to go back to Dr. Dustin. First the office is incredible like nothing your children have ever seen he should specialize in pediatric dental design worldwide! Second he is the nicest and most gentle dentist ever, excellent with kids. Third his staff is sooo friendly, fun, outgoing and great with kids. By far the best pediatric dentist in the USA.
