UPDATE AS OF 8:04PM 12/2/15 Dr. Alcala called me at about 8:00pm to say he wanted to follow up about the call I received regarding my x-ray. He told me yesterday he was going to call me in the early afternoon. I informed him that I actually did not receive a call. I had called myself, and I already spoke with the woman at the front desk and that she provided me with my x-ray results. I also told him that she said that she didnt know why no one had called me yet. Dr. Alcala wanted to make sure I knew the internet was down yesterday, which I was well aware of as that had occurred shortly after I walked in and I had no problem with it. But I had already received my X-ray results. I reiterated this to him many times and he kept bringing up the wi-fi outage. Yes, there was a power outage. He also admitted they had the X-ray results early that morning. Then, he mentioned that he was sorry about how I felt yesterday. I told him I thought it was extremely inappropriate for him to call me over that because that just told me he saw my review and was only calling because he saw the review. I fully admit that I said nothing more and hung up after he continued to try to talk about it. I want to reiterate that I thought everyone else I was with yesterday was wonderful and friendly. I feel that if you are going to call me and apologize for my feelings instead of just apologizing for your own actions, then Ive no choice but to update my review so any future reviewer can be prepared for a phone call as well. ORIGINAL REVIEW (approximately 4:20 PM 12/2/15): I want to be clear: my review is based solely on my experience with Dr. Alcala and not the rest of the staff. Everyone else was wonderful. I was unfortunately very unimpressed with my experience with Dr. Alcala at Doctors Express. I went in per the recommendation of a few friends instead of going to the ER after my bronchitis wasnt improving (Im not a smoker, never have been) hoping I could get an X-ray to clear up my concerns of pneumonia. Dr. Alcalas poor bedside manner was immediately apparent. He stood with his arms folded, laughed at my answers to his questions, often exchanged looks and smiles with his PA while I was talking, and kept laughing at me when I was trying to talk (I havent had much of a voice in the past week). I genuinely felt like he was talking to me like he thought I was stupid and knew nothing about my own body. I had originally been taking an antibiotic from a previous prescription but stopped taking it after a nurse and pharmacist recommended that I speak with a doctor and gave an X-ray first. Dr, Alcala asked why I stopped taking it. I explained, and he laughed again. Dr. Alcala told me hed follow up the following afternoon regarding my X-ray, but I never heard from him and had to call myself. The woman at the front desk told me someone was supposed to call me and she wasnt sure why no one did. The rest of the staff at Doctors Express was delightful, but Ill not be returning or recommending it as an Urgent Care so long as Dr. Alcala is there.

I had 4 visits in March and at each one, I felt that I was well respected and considered to be a part of my own treatment team. The various staff members, in addition to the doctors themselves (I saw all 3 doctors, and loved each of them!) were very professional, gentle, and considerate of my comfort and care. I got the correct diagnosis, had several possible conditions ruled out via on-site x-rays, and in general felt very good about the experience(s). I liked it that they offer prescription medication right there, but I needed Tamaflu, which they did not have. The doctor called me from home the next day to check on me. I love it that the office is primarily staffed with the same two physicians consistently (each of the male doctors works 3.5 days and the third, I was told, covers for a half day a week - she was also wonderful) . Prior to my experience with this office, I had been careful to use only UPMC Urgent Care facilities, because my pcp and several specialists i see are UPMC doctors and all my records are online with UPMC. But to be honest, I dont really know that the doctors, physicians assistants and nurse practitioners that Ive seen at UPMC Urgent Cares actually looked at my records. They also make it SUPER clear that they are addressing ONLY the presenting problem, and you seldom see the same caregiver more than once. The only negative thing I could say about AFC/Doctors Express Urgent Care is that its not a General Practice facility ;-) I would LOVE to have these doctors as my Primary Care Physicians. I really cant say enough about this place - I sure hope to not have to go there again any time soon, but if I WOULD have the need to seek medical care any time soon - I would do so with confidence. Every doctors office should be as good as this one - we would hear far fewer complaints about our countrys health care system if that were the case.

I wouldnt recommend this urgent care to my worst enemy. The doctors/staff are incompetent, they do not care to listen to your problem, illness, or issues. They do not prescribe medications accurately based on your medical history, gender, and body weight. If you have any questions regarding any medications they have perscribed to you or about your visit after you leave...good luck! This office let the doctor go/fired that I had seen at my visit. The doctor that took his place and his patients is no better...probably worse. He was Very short and rude on the phone, cut me off right mid sentence and spoke over me the entire time. I dont think he even knows why I called to begin with, thats how early in the convo he freaked out. They have Zero compassion for the Ill or for their own patients! My visit to this doctors office cost me a trip to the ER (a very expensive one). It all could have been avoided had they asked the proper questions, did an exam (like I paid for), and accurately prescribed the medication based on this rather than taking a stab at it and overdosing a patient. I left there worse off than I walked in and still paying for it painfully and will be for at least a few more weeks. Save yourself the pain and money and choose a different urgent care office in the area.

I have been here twice, the first time they said they could not help me and sent me to the hospital for which I incurred a $2,000.00 bill, and yes, I had to pay over $180.00 for my wasted visit there. As it turns out, it was a kidney stone. The 2nd time was this past Saturday 9/10. I went in with a rash that looked like a bullseye. The doctor said, and I quote "I dont know what you want me to tell you, you have a rash". She proceeded to have blood drawn for a lymes disease test. As of 9/15 I still do not have results. I called for results 9/14 at 4:45 pm to find that they had the wrong phone number but was told that the doctor hadnt signed off on the results yet and she would have him call me. They are open until 9:00 PM and I did not hear from them. I guess I will have to call again this morning.
