After being a long-time patient (since the early 1980s), with no problems until certain changes took place, my integrity and honesty were questioned and at the end, I was advised to seek a health provider elsewhere even though I have documented proof of a violation of HIPPA had taken place. Diagnoses that appear on ones record without testing to support those diagnoses deserve to be investigated, but they were not when I asked. Also, My Chart communications were archieved out of sequence and left unexplained. Having been a long-time employee in the health-care field, the foremost pledge was "the patient comes first"; however, in this instance "the employee came first". My communications via My Chart were archieved out of sequence and were never acted upon. When I directed my concerns to Risk Management, I was told that "Risk Management does not become involved when a problem arises between a patient and physician, but rather it is left to be resolved within the medical facility in which it occurred." Now, I have to wonder what is the purpose of Risk Management and other stages within the Carilion system if their answer to resolving problems is "handle it within the facility in which it occurred". There are too many physicians in the Roanoke Valley who are accepting new patients so my advice is when things start to go downhill without apparent cause, seek another medical facility from which to obtain your medical care.

I have been seeing this facility for about 20 years and highly recommend to others seeking professional and courteous help for health issues. The nurses and staff are friendly and actually seem willing to always put the customer first. My primary care doctor is Dr. Beirne and he is simply the best! He will encourage you to get better and offer congrats when you improve and fuss in a constructive way when the test results need to improve. He listens and his friendly manner puts you at ease and not afraid to talk to him about anything. I wish I had better health, but I am very happy to have him help me get better.
