My experience here was not always bad. For the first 2 years, Dr Sarah M took good care of Ari, an orange tabby I adopted at PARL. I steered clear of most upsells as this is already the most expensive vet in RI but stayed on because you get what you pay for right? WRONG!! The trouble started when Ari, at the time 3, lost all interest in eating. His fav wet food, treats even tablefood failed to draw any interest. He moved little and less and showed no desire to relieve himself either. I took him in to see his vet though he was seen by Dr C Lund, also the owner of the practice. She ordered a plethora of tests though found no conclusive cause while Ari was losing weight rapidly. All the medicine prescribed failed including anti-depressants which made him worse. He even spent a night there under observation on IV. I had to find a way to keep him fed myself. I used water to dilute the food and force feed it through a dropper. This actually worked somewhat to sustain him but the cause remained unknown. A few visits and another round of tests later I had lost all hope, so I took time off work to care for him knowing i had to decide to end his suffering soon. It did not come to that thankfully. He improved slowly but surely and was eating on his own within a week. He became more active was back to his old self soon after. What makes this worth sharing is that he is a healthy 5 year old who is curled up and purring in my lap as I write this. Basically, 3 months of treatment and $3k later I was still clueless about the illness of my pet as they never diagnosed him with anything. I have since found an excellent vet in Dr Chang at Hope Vets. Ps. Lance, a tech at city kitty was great and about the only one who seemed genuinely concerned for my cat.

I have taken four cats to City Kitty over the last 10 years and highly recommend them. Last year I found a lump in my 11 year old cats chest and took her in to City Kitty to get checked out. The lump was found to be malignant breast cancer. Her lymph nodes and mammary glands on that side were removed and she has made an amazing recovery. Her lab work this year shows no problems and shes doing great! Im so happy that the vets at City Kitty took the appropriate actions to remove her tumors, catching it in time before it spread to other parts of her body. Another cat of mine a few years back got in a fight with a skunk. Hed been badly beaten up and bitten above the base of his tail. City Kitty immediately referred me to an emergency hospital where his tail had to amputated. In the next week and a half he was given antibiotics and fluids but the internal damage and infection were too much for him to fight off. City Kitty was very honest with me about his prognosis. They did everything they could to help him but also not burden me with the expense of further treatment after it was clear he was not going to make it. To spare the expense of hospitalization, and also to be with him until the end, I took the option of administering his antibiotics and fluid treatments at home in his last few days. I highly recommend them for their sincere caring, honest communication, and exceptional veterinary care.

As an update to my previous review (below), we just rescued a little kitten who has had a rough first 5 months (lost his right front leg, had some little wounds on his legs/body and was shy and scared) and City Kitty squeezed us in on the same afternoon I called to ask if they would look at him if we took him from the shelter right away. Kathleen, Lance and Dr. Mercurio were simply wonderful!!! They got us right in, assessed little Oliver and treated him for all of our concerns. We took him home that same night, and within hours he was looking around to play with our other cats. Its almost like he knew we and the staff at City Kitty were there to do nothing but help him. City Kitty is a WONDERFUL vet, and I cant say enough nice things about them. The level of care they provide is awesome!!! City Kitty City Kitty is simply amazing. When our little girl Callie was diagnosed with cancer, Dr. Lund and the teams level of compassion and care were simply amazing. A special mention must be made to Jill. She genuinely cared and loved Callie from the beginning to the end, and her compassion was great comfort to my wife and me. When it came time to put Callie down, Dr. Mercurio was patient, understanding and kind. We know that Jill and the entire team at City Kitty made Callies last months the absolute best that they could be, and were forever greatfull!

It pains me to write this review, because the staff at City Kitty are extremely friendly and a cat-only vet is a treasure indeed. However, this vet consistently charges twice the amount for comparable services as other vets we have known in other metro areas (some of which are pricier than Providence). This in itself would not merit a one-star rating; however we feel that this vet has routinely pushed antibiotic products and routine checkups at inflated prices when they were not necessary. They overlooked a small growth on the forehead of one of our cats; and when we returned several months later they quoted us $700 to have it removed. Anecdotally, friends have told us this seems about three times the normal vet price for such a procedure, and our cats have undergone more difficult surgeries for far lesser cost at previous vets. Finally, they were fairly unknowledgable about USDA procedure for travelling with cats by airplane abroad, resulting in extra trips to the USDA office and additional forms (for which they charged us). I realize that veterinary care is a business and Providence is not cheap, but I believe City Kittys pricing to be borderline arbitrage.

Cats Only!...this is a great idea. These are thoughtful, caring people working in a calm, sort-of-quirky space. For me, taking my little buddy here is an EASY experience; it is in town (the shorter the trip in the carrier, the better), they seem pretty flexible in scheduling, and best of all, there isn’t the commotion from dogs. I love dogs, but at my last vet there would always be a few pups in the waiting room exasperating what is already a stressful situation. This, and the fact your kitty is trapped in a carrier and in a strange place around strange people and likely ill to boot can make many cats feel unsafe. Basically, night and day. There are few reviews criticizing the pricing of this vet. This hasn’t been my experience. Going to the doc is expensive whether you are a person or a cat. Cost-wise, I would say City Kitty is roughly on par with other vets. Ive been to 3 in the area. Im sorry, but I see NO WAY that this vet is 2-3 times the cost of going to one of their competitors.

I just had my first appointment at Citty Kitty and can not say enough good things....the location is great, convienent in a fun and interesting space...the vet techs (Lance and a woman) were awesome, and I really could tell that they knew what they were doing and handled my husbands cat from hell with gentleness and ease (despite an endless stream of growls and hisses). We saw Dr. Mercurio, who was also great...no judgement on our cats overdue vaccinations, or pressure/pushing expensive interventions, products, or anything..just a good, sound eval, clear recommendations, and helpful advice. I look forward to coming here for our future visits. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!! Oh for our two cats, one healthy and one needing some acute management, I found the prices to be EXTREMELY reasonable...much much less than we came to expect in DC area and Boston. I was expecting to pay a good deal more than I did for the care of two cats.
