I took my dogs to this vet based on a recommendation because Im new to Austin. First they gave me a quote on an annual dental cleaning and to remove a lump off of my dogs back. The vet said the lump needed to be sent off and it looked suspicious. They quoted me $1100 for the dental and lumpectomy. The day I dropped my dog off on the scheduled day and I told them only take the lump off, we can do the dental another day. The vet that day called me and said the lump was not suspicious and they could do it for $550. So Im left to wonder whats really going on here. First its suspicious..then its not. This did not leave me with a good impression, but I went ahead and did it. When I took her for follow up to remove the sutures they did not remove all of them. I had to get a suture set from work and do it myself. There are still sutures in her back and my current vet said it may cause a cyst from them not removing the sutures properly. Weeks later I had to put my other dog to sleep .It was an agonizing decision. The vet did not want to give him sedation prior to putting him to sleep at first. Only after I requested it would he do it. After coldly explaining the COST of the drug, i told him to give the medicine. The vet wanted to put him to sleep with a muzzle on! My dog was so scared and he had never had to wear a muzzle. He was salivating profusely and so frightened. They said he would die peacefully...and he most certainly did not. He struggled to die. It seemed to take forever. Probably because he didnt get enough medicine. The only compassionate person was the vet tech. He was awesome. I will never go there again

There is not enough space to say how AMAZING Hill Country Animal Hospital is. We moved to Austin 3 years ago and were recommended to go to this place and they have never disappointed. We had an elderly dog at that time that Dr. Holcomb had to help us through with his elderly ailments. We eventually had to make the decision to let our elderly dog go to heaven and the loving care and personal phonecalls at home after hours from Dr. Holcomb to ensure we were okay truly went above and beyond. We also had another dog that was very sad after the passing. We decided to have him go to doggy day care two times a week and it tremendously helped. He loved going there in fact would of preferred to go every day. Then we adopted another dog as she was three days from being put down in a shelter in Sequin and when I picked her up she was in need of a vet visit. My husband called and without question or an appointment they said "bring her in" and so I was able to before I took her home to make sure she was okay. We moved to the North side of Austin and cant visit now as much as we would like to and still every time we go back they remember "Elvis" like it was yesterday and are now getting familiar with "Gracie". My babies love them and I truly appreciate everything Hill Country has done for us. The service is way above and beyond and it is genuine not forced. Thank you so much Hill Country Animal Hospital.

I have been going to Hill Country Animal Hospital for more than 10 years, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Even though I moved from a place near the hospital to the other end of the city, I still drive there for all my vet needs. Considering Austin traffic, this is high praise indeed! Dr. Holcombe and his staff are always courteous and professional. They take the time to get to know your pets and you. I trust them completely to take care of my four legged children, and they have never disappointed me. Unlike another reviewer, I have never had any issue with them performing a test or procedure without my knowledge or consent. They always talk to me first about what they want to do, and, if I ask, they are very upfront about the pros and cons. They give me all the information without bias and let me take control of my pets care. Yes, I can spend a fortune at the vet, but its nothing abnormal. I get exceptional care and service for what I pay. I recommend Hill Country Animal Hospital to anyone who wants exceptional and compassionate care for your pets.

I understand some people have a ton of money to spend on their animals, and the location is perfect for them to charge what they do (Westlake). Here are my two experiences there and why I will never go back. First time, brought my cat in as he was limping. They did xrays, found nothing wrong and sent me home with pain meds ($$) and no diagnosis. I get home and promptly threw away the medicine and looked at my cats paw and there was a gash on it. They never even noticed! Second time- a few years later, so hoping for better care as the location is close to me. Bring in my kitten, they tell me she needs shots and a test for FL, so I say yes. After leaving with another enormous bill from them and being told I would hear from them with results for test (no call/nothing), I cancelled her appointment for her spay. Luckily I did as I called them to ask what the rate was and they told me $400-$600!! That is ridiculous! A good vet can do this for about $200 or less. No more, and I tell all my friends with pets as their are better places to go that wont rip you off.

My yorkie when bein seen for diarhea Amy Michelle Toth, DVM saw her and said all her tests were fine her but she wanted her to stay the weekend so she could be hooked to an IV to hydrate her..Even though I told her my dog is never away from me and has severe seperation anxiety. She could have just injected her with fluids and medicine and sent us home but instead insisted on keeping her. I live 10 minutes away and before I got home they were telling me to come back my dog of 8 years had just mysteriously stopped breathing and was dead. The last time I held my dog they all noticed she did not want to go with them. Sadistic women insisted it was for her own well being. I should have listened with my heart instead of my head because now my sweet precious baby is dead. I will NEVER TRUST HILL COUNTRY ANIMAL HOSPITAL AGAIN. They murdered my most precious baby and now I am left with complete devistation in my heart and my families hearts. BEWARE.....GO SOMEWHERE ELSE...Last photo of our beloved Yaya after we brought her home. Her body was still warm.

Dr. Riddick took care of my dog when I first got her from the shelter. It turned out that had scabies and a bacterial skin infection. Dr. Riddick was very thorough and answered all of my questions. She was also great at handling my nervous and skittish dog, and was able to put her at ease. She also followed up with me to make sure her medications were working properly. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Dr. Kemnitz took care of my foster dog. She was severely malnourished and had a terrible case of demodectic mange. She had to make regular trips to the Hill Country Animal Hospital for several months. The entire staff knew her each time she came and treated her as if she were their own dog. Dr. Kemnitz did a great job with his care plan for her and she went from being a bald skeleton to a strong, beautiful German Shepherd. I even boarded her for a week at Hill Country when I was out of town and she came back happy and healthy. They took great care of her! I live 40 minutes away from HCAH now, but its still worth the drive!
