I am writing this review not to discredit the hospital, but to inform patients and their families of our experience, so that other people do not have to go through the tragedy my family is going through. My father was admitted to the ER on May 13 at 10:30 after experiencing severe lower back and abdominal pain for a few months. The pain had gotten so horrible, he couldnt take it anymore. Baylor Grapevine diagnosed my father with pancreatitis that day. It turns out that my father actually had stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma the entire time he was at Baylor Grapevine, which was causing the pancreatitis and not one doctor caught it. Instead of correctly diagnosing my father and looking further into what was causing the pancreatitis, the doctors showed little concern for his worsening condition and actually had the nerve to ridicule him for his "unhealthy lifestyle choices" and blamed his pancreatitis on that. They had put him on a no food and no water diet for 4 weeks. The only explanation our family received was that his case of pancreatitis was one they had never seen before, he was "atypical". While we watched my fathers health quickly deteriorate and his stomach swell to the size of a woman pregnant with twins in her last trimester, the doctors continued to show absolutely no sense of urgency to help my father. Dr. Sayani was just one of the doctors telling my father that he had never seen a case of pancreatitis like my fathers before (as we now know was being caused by the stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma). Dr. Sayani actually nodded off to sleep during one of his infrequent visits with my parents; falling asleep momentarily on the couch in my fathers room. He made sure to come in the next day with a Starbucks cup. It sure made us feel really confident to place my fathers life in the hands of a doctor who couldnt stay awake when meeting with patients. Although Dr. Sayani fell asleep during his visit, nothing compares to the disgusting and horrible way Dr. Bouajram treated my father under his care. The first time Dr. Bouajram met with us (5 days after my father was admitted) he told my father that he would be able to go home in a couple days because "they (doctors at Baylor Grapevine) used to keep patients with pancreatitis until they were completely healed, but realized that that was not necessary anymore and patients can go home quicker". He told my father this, even though he showed no signs of getting better. Because pancreatitis is often caused by poor diet and alcohol abuse (my father was not an alcoholic), we decided to ask Dr. Bouajram what kind of foods my father should stay away from. He began to belittle and insult us by explaining to us that most foods have a nutrition label on the back that lists fat content and ingredients. Did he think we were that stupid that we did not know what a nutrition label was and how to read it? He certainly spoke to us and made us feel that way. The doctors agreed with Dr. Bouajram and released my father 8 days after he was admitted. My father returned to the ER at Baylor Grapevine 5 days later with pain worse than the first time. Yet, the doctors still stuck with their diagnosis of pancreatitis. Dr. Bouajram actually had the nerve to tell my father, in the horrible condition he was, that he was obese and he was in the hospital because of his own life choices. He told this to a man struggling to fight for his life and suffering from, at the time, an unknown severe case of cancer. After 2 weeks of dealing with doctors who ridiculed my father for his "lifestyle choices", did no additional testing to see what might have caused such a severe case of pancreatitis, and did not do anything about the severe swelling of his stomach, my mother decided to move him to Baylor Hospital in Dallas. The day after my father was admitted there, they drained 10 liters of fluid from his stomach. The doctors immediately noticed what the doctors in Baylor Grapevine hadnt: my fathers lymphnodes were incredibly swollen. A biopsy was taken and my father was correctly diagnosed.

My mom had surgery there a few weeks ago. The nurses that cared for her after surgery were awful, one of them almost gave her a double dose of an important medication, laughing it off as she left the room. They let her blood sugar go way out of control as they kept forgetting to check it and had no idea when to give her the injection, luckily she woke up often enough to ask for it as they were clueless. They had no clue what medications she was on, or what medications the hospital had already given her, this information was all taken down when she was admitted to the hospital. We told the nurses to check the chart, but they said its not on the chart, we had to start keeping track of every drug each nurse and doctor was giving her as the hospital had no idea and kept asking us what she was taking and what they had given her earlier as no one knew... When we asked the nurse questions either she didnt know the answer, or she just ran out of the room with no explanation leaving us confused... When she eventually came back she had no recollection of the question or the answer... It is amazing that she made it out of this circus alive! What a nightmare, I am never going back. There is a lot more to this story, Im just tired of typing... Her first nurse was the most incompetent one, but the others werent much better.

My mom went in to have a tumor removed. Surgery went well, Surgeon said she wanted her walking that evening and every day. It never happened. I told the nurse that night; she said, " taking care of pain was more important." Mom wanted to walk! The nurses didnt want to walk her to the the bathroom so put the bedside toilet out only after trying to get her to use a bedpan. They told her she could just go in the chair if they didnt get to her. She would have sat in it for hours! I complained. I had to go to the desk to get nurses because they would answer the call button. I told the surgeon- I heard her get onto the nurses after she left us; it didnt help. My mom should have been out of hospital within five days. She was there a month! She died due to the nurses lack of care! The Dr.s were wonderful but the nurses never followed through. Its been 2 months now. We have heard other stories about people not recovering at Baylor and dying. I wish we had heard it before mom had gone there for surgery. The Dr.s are great but the nurses dont do their job and its the nurses that YOUR loved ones depend on for recovery. I hope this never happens to anyone else, yet as long as nurses who arent interested in their job are allowed to continue to work and not be accountable for lack of care......

I hate giving 1 star ratings (this is only my second) but the experience here was HORRIBLE. Was here once (for a week). It ranks high on my very short list of worst experiences ever. Our PCP was Baylor affiliated and gave us the options of 2 hospitals when my wife was ill. We chose Baylor because in theory our PCP would be able to get info easier. Our doctor said it should have been an in and out same day process and when we shared the story he was surprised. They kept my wife overnight, overnight became days. Tests were run, and the experience went downhill. One day when I came in to visit my wife around lunch time they had not even brought her food yet that day... no lunch and no breakfast had come. WTF?! The nightmarish experience ended when our PCP said that there was no reason she should have been there for so long and my wife decided to let them know she was leaving. A few weeks later the bills for all of those superfluous test and the extended star started piling up. Complaints to the hospital did nothing since doctors dont officially work for the hospital. All said and done, the amount of bills we received for such horrible service totaled to more than the price of both our cars combined. Avoid this place if you can.
