I just moved to Houston and needed to find a primary care physician. Having been with the same doctor for 20 years this was not an easy or anticipated task. I met with Dr. Velazquez this morning and must say Im quite impressed. He is unassuming, yet competent. He is pensive, but thoughtful and verbal when necessary. He respects a patients knowledge, but doesnt hesitate to insist on a necessary test. There is NO push for unnecessary expenditure of time or money. His "Dracula" is a very kind, pleasant and efficient expert at drawing blood. I did not wait for my appointment. I was not rushed through my appointment. I WILL be called with the results of my blood work. He even humored me with my Spanish with no reluctance. I have found a doctor in whom I can trust.

Im tempted to give him one star but he was a good doctor. The problem is, he switched over to a concierge practice, dumping most of the patients that werent willing to pay him a couple of thousands of dollars for the privilege of seeing him . Beyond that, his staff was mediocre, at best. While the staff was friendly, we often had issues trying to get refills, apparently the requests would get lost somewhere in the office, on occasion. Wed also have similar issues with getting a call back when needed -- and even when we got them they were often delayed until the end of the day. Perhaps now that hes being paid by his patients for better service, hes upgraded his staff.

My wife was very sick today and we had an appointment for 11:30am We ran into traffic on 288 and we were late 15 minutes. The doctor told us to reschedule because we were late and he would not see us. I try to explain that the week before I had to wait one hour to see him because of so many patients and I did not complain. I ask him for just 10 minutes of his precious time to see my sick wife but he refuse.He was wrong and the sick patient always come first. I will not be going back to this doctor again. We ended up going to the emergency room at the hospital.

Dr. Velazquez is wonderful. Hes intelligent, well mannered caring, and articulate. His office staff is very professional, kind and helpful. I am impressed and satisfied with his service and feel that my health is in caring hands. I look forward to being a regular patient of his.
