Originally we were required to go to Potranco Vet Clinic when we adopted our two girls. The initial exams/meds were covered by our adoption agency. At first this place was great and very helpful. It started to go down hill a few months ago. We went in to bring on of our girls who had heartworm (Heartworm positive from the day of adoption.) The adoption agency and PVC had a deal that I would receive free heartworm care until the issue was resolved. Apparently, the two companies separated without giving out notice so on our most recent visit I was told after the treatment it was no longer going to be covered. So I was on the hook for the exam fees etc. While not a huge deal as I love my little girl and want her to get better, it would have been nice to know before going through with it. Not everybody would have had the cash on hand to pay for it. Like most people, we are trying to save where we can. I do a lot of Amazon shopping etc as its convenient for our busy schedule and often saves us money. As such, we wanted to buy a year prescription of meds from 1-800-Petmeds. In total, we would have saved about $150 on the order. PVC denied the request. We went to this location and requested a written copy of our prescription which they also denied. While Texas does not carry a law stating they must honor our request, the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) does recommend its members to honor the request of written prescriptions as its a pro consumer action. When I tried to talk with them on the price of the prescriptions it as a flat no on any price change. No chance on meeting in the middle etc. Lastly, the office is going through multiple doctors at the moment. So for at least the time being, you wont have a single doctor experience that will remember you and your pets uniqueness. Only what is written on our documents. We are going to be looking for another vet.

I am new to San Antonio and Potranco Veterinary Clinic is right down the road from my home, so I figured it couldnt hurt by just going to get an annual exam for my miniature schnauzer. I have never felt worse for my dog the moment we stepped in the door. First, there was no air conditioning! I understand they were going through remodeling, but if the ac doesnt work, you shouldnt be opened (especially in the summer). The dogs are scared already knowing that they are at the vet! Second, the wait was 45 minutes and we had a SCHEDULED appointment. Third, while waiting, I witnessed a dog reuniting with the owner and the dog peed because of the excitement. This is fine, but the worker who cleaned it up, threw a towel on the ground, stomped on it a couple times, picked up the towel by the corner, and dragged it off to the back. The urine was just being spread more since she was dragging the sopping wet towel! I was thinking that surely she would come back with some disinfectant spray... but no! It was just left alone!!! What if that dog was sick who just peed on the ground? I almost walked out right then and there and then they called my name. I took my dog to a room where I watched the woman disinfect the table (good thing or else I would have walked out) and proceeded to exam my dog. She was not the vet but an assistant who obviously had not been doing this long, as my dog was shaking the entire time when she was handling her. It took an addition 30 minutes just to see the vet who could have cared less about my dog. I felt so guilty when I left that vet that I vow never to go there again and to inform everyone of this horrible experience. If you wrote a positive review about this vet, this is obviously the only one youve been too. It is not right how they run their business and I beg you not to take your beloved pet there.

I dont understand the bad reviews for this place. This place has been wonderful to us! Just a little back story before I get to how great this place is. My husband and I adopted a puppy back in August of 2013 and long story short the puppy died of Parvo after we had him for just over a week. The vet we took him to didnt seem to care and seemed to just want our money. We were going to have to wait to adopt another puppy for at least 2 years possibly more because of how long the virus can live. We found this little adoption agency by Petco and they had a puppy there who had Parvo and survived the ordeal. We were able to adopt this puppy and we were SO HAPPY! We finally had a puppy again and we wanted to make sure he would be in good health. He actually started coughing a lot and wasnt eating or drinking on his own. We took him to the Potranco Vet Clinic because thats where he was when he had Parvo. Come to find out our puppy had pneumonia and it was a pretty bad case of it. They wanted to keep him for a couple days because of how severe he was. I was worried about the bill and how much it would be. With the economy and just regular bills we were not sure if we could even swing the vet bills. They didnt charge us a penny! The Vet said she wasnt going to charge us anything because the adoption agency shouldnt have let him get adopted if he wasnt in good health. Our puppy is doing so much better! Hes playing now and eating food by himself. Were taking him in for another check-up this week. We dont plan on using any other vet clinic because the people here have been SO kind and HELPFUL with our puppy.

The people here are crooked like the letter S. I have been taking my two dogs there for the past four years out of convienience, but I finally had all I could take. My dog has an ongoing issue with a yeast infection caused by allergies. They checked her out last year and prescribed a bunch of stuff. Shampoo, antibiotics, and a mild steroid. After doing some price comparisons online, I found out that I was seriously ripped off. They price gouged the hell out of their meds. When I called last week to see if they could confirm a prescription with 1-800-PET MEDS that I placed for the same steroid they prescribed before they told me they would need to check her out again. When I told them it was the exact same thing as last time they persisted it was a legal issue and that they needed to look at her. When I asked if they would at least give me a break on the $50 fee to do so, they said no and when I told them that this was a terrible way to treat a returning customer and that I would not be returning, they didnt care in the slightest. I went that same day and got my pet records and will not be going back. I put up with the lack of staff, the fact that I had to wait over 30 mins for my scheduled appointments, the fact that they never return phone calls and always leave me on hold for at least 20 mins each time. But when I feel like I am getting ripped off, thats where I have to draw the line.
