They talked me into using Trifexis heartworm medication on my three dogs. The only side affect they told me about was the doss possibly becoming legarthic and something else that was trivial, maybe the diarrhea. The medication did not have warnings in the literature or on the box telling what this stuff can really do, especially to older dogs. All three became very ill and what seemed to be depressed. We thought it was because of the move we had made to the area and the death of a family member. My oldest got the worst: diarrhea, vomiting, legarthic to the point of not wanting to get up at all, not able to jump, staring into space as if in trance for minutes at a time, incontinence, not eating (not even treats), unable to walk for 20 ft without having to stop. We thought he was at the end of his life and we took him in to have him put to sleep. The doctor who prescribed the Trifexis was told WHY were putting our dog down. He did not say anything about the possibility that the things we were seeing could be because of the medication he recommended and that maybe if we took him off it he would return to himself again. Instead he gave our dog the shot that took him away from us. Weeks later my other two were still not acting right and I suddenly had the thought it might be the Trifexis. After looking it up I just about threw up. All the reasons we put our precious Gunther to sleep for were possible side affects to the Trifexis. I immediately took our other two off the Trifexis, gave them a holistic liver and kidney supplement, and within a month they started returning to their old selves. I notified the clinic what happened and got no apology, no acknowledgement that they may have overlooked what could have been the cause of Gunthers symptoms nor did they emit one iota of compassion for the fact that I may have put my dog to sleep for the wrong reasons. My thought is they just wanted to sell me the most expensive item they had for heartworms to improve their bottom line. I have moved my dogs to another clinic. NOTE: The folks who manufacture Trifexis also showed no remorse or compassion for the loss of my wonderful dog due to what appears to be the side affects of their drug.

Herbst Veterinary Hospital has been caring for my golden retriever from the day after I got him at 6 weeks old to present day as he approaches his first birthday. I live in San Antonio and drive to Boerne in order for my dog to see these doctors. Weve had over a dozen appointments in that time frame and the front desk is so helpful with scheduling appointments, especially on short notice. My dog sees Dr. Quinn mostly, but has seen other veterinarians when Dr. Quinn is not available, and they all provide the same high-level quality of care. When my dog had canine cough, the doctor (not Dr. Quinn because he was not in that day) came out to my car because he was contagious and provided care in the parking lot, including taking his temperature via rectal thermometer, which is no easy feat for an energetic and strong 60+ lb dog. I will never bring my dog anywhere else, so long as I live in San Antonio. Now for the real gem: Dr. Quinn. Dr. Quinn has been a lifesaver as Ive embarked on this journey of dog ownership on my own. I trust him unequivocally and it hasnt been an easy journey since my dog has allergies that can range from mild to severe. Dr. Quinn is always a calming influence on both my dog and me. Ive seen him give my dog countless shots, scrape skin samples from painful looking sores to look at the cells under a microscope, and generally do things that dogs dont particularly like to my pup... And in spite of it all, my dog still LOVES Dr. Quinn! He does not fear the vets office nor the exam room. He also neutered my dog and when I picked him up in the afternoon, my dog was happy as a clam, as if nothing happened! In addition, Dr. Quinn provides such a personalized level of service that I can call the office and leave a message for him and he will call me back that same day to discuss my concerns! He really is one-of-a-kind and I feel so blessed to have found him for my dog. In short, the reviews dont lie. Herbst Veterinary Hospital has stellar reviews because it is a stellar healthcare facility. The reviews are what led me to choose this vet facility for my dog and Im sure glad I did. You will not be disappointed.

I used the groomer, who called me before my dogs appointment to get the necessary information about my dogs. I did however expect to meet the groomer upon arrival to go over final details, but she was not present. She called within an hour after they were dropped off to verify details. This was fine. I was called at the end of the day by the groomer to tell me they were done and the details of the grooming. The groomer was rude, and said my puppy (toy poodle) was very hard to handle and was terrible to deal with. The groomer did not say anything about my 15 year old toy poodle, who is very easy to groom. She was gone when I picked them up. I paid $70.00 and took them home. After I had time I looked closer at my dogs, and they were not done completely. The older dogs face was not done completely, his ears were not done, his fur on his body was not smooth (small long clumps were left sporadically in spots), his feet were not done, and his stomach was not done. My puppy did get dropped off with a lot of knots in her fur due to her harness and wearing diapers; and her fur was shaved as discussed. However, her ears were not cleaned out, her face was not completely done, and her feet were not finished. I did not notice the fine details because of being in a hurry to check out at the end of the day. I had to regroom both my dogs 2 days later, which was something I was trying to get out of doing. I normally groom them myself, but due to a trip that was coming up soon, I opted for help. When I did them myself, my puppy was very good and I had no problems with her. I can only imagine the problem with her was due to all the knots that she had shaved. This was her first body shaving experience at 4 months of age. I am giving a low review because of the rude remarks that were unprofessional and the fact that so many items were not finished in the grooming of both of my dogs. I do not recommend this groomer if you have a toy poodle.

Brought my little Shih-Tzu "Fancy" here after an emergency surgery over a weekend. Brought her here to have her stitches removed and have some other issues addressed recommended by the Emergency Room Dr. suggested I have my regular vet check her ears and teeth. She has been struggling with a persistent ear infection & yeast infection for about 4 years. We had seen 3 vets over that time 2 that treated her several times and it didnt really work and several have told me that there is just nothing I can do for it. Several also tole me it is because she has long ears that hang and she long haired in combination with the high humidity which I agree with the humidity part. I found it hard to believe that it couldnt be treated. I do agree with it being very difficult to manage. Robert Quinn was so sweet with her as was the tech and i wish I could remember her name. But they were all very nice. Dr. Quinn removed her stitches "she is not easy to work with" She wiggles a lot. But got them removed just fine and check her everything, eyes, ears, teeth, heart .. Treated her ears and this is the first time she has not been in any discomfort in years. I was barely able to keep up with the infection, cleaning, putting drops in one of the other vets prescribed. Now her ears are nice, clean looking, no swelling and no oder. The cost didnt send me into shock. When she recovers a bit more from the last surgery, I will take her for dental cleaning and possible extraction. Thank you all for being so wonderful.
