New in town, and found myself in the position of having to put my longtime cat and sleeping companion of 18 years down. So I brought her to this clinic, and sorely regret having done so. They sanctimoniously made me feel like I was suspected of putting her down for "convenience", and then *they* caused her (and us) unnecessary suffering. I have two major problems with their treatment of me and my cat. First, while I understand their reticence about euthanizing animals "for convenience"as they put it, the doctor scrutinized me and questioned me like I was a suspect, making me feel like I was trying to come up with spurious reasons to convince them to put down my cat. Sort of like a social worker who is barely concealing her belief that you are abusing your child and her consequent hostility. I hated being made to feel like that. Perhaps the Dr. is frustrated, but you just cant treat people like suspects and grill them when theyre in grief. Second, and worse, I am not sure how someone decided that taking our cat in the other room, sticking an IV in her so that you can give her a sedative (and I did see that you guys tried and failed in one paw before doing the other... no wonder you had to sedate her), and then bringing her back to us drugged and non-present for the actual euthanasia... how this course of action is somehow more humane than simply euthanizing her with a single barbiturate shot with us in the room with her comforting her. Either way, she takes the pain of a shot. Either way, she is sedated to an extreme. But their way deprived us *unexpectedly* of our last moments with our little cat, while putting her through the extra anguish of establishing an IV in her arm with strangers, away from us. Instead, we were brought back our cat drugged with mouth hanging open. I wanted to say my final goodbye and comfort *her* in that last moment of her lucidity, not have her have that last moment with doctors fumbling with her vein and a needle. Not have our genuine last moment be with a heavily drugged, ragdoll cat. Funny thing was, they said they were just taking her out to put in the IV and then asked if I wanted to be present when they sedated her. I said yes. But they brought her back in sedated. Really? My guess is the IV was going badly, my cat was being hurt and resisting, and they sedated her to avoid the ugliness of bringing her back in traumatized and in pain from their questionable and over-engineered pain management method. Perhaps I am being cynical when I wonder why all this extra procedure was necessary, and I wonder whether it was a way to inflate the bill to $250+. The last moments of her littermate who was dying of cancer a year earlier were much kinder for both the cat and for us. The vet at the other clinic waited til we were ready, then gave him one shot while we held him, and didnt hit us with an unexpectedly high cost for it all. This time, I just felt sick afterward. I think, giving them the benefit of the doubt, these people are at minimum penny-wise and pound-foolish in their approach to managing suffering... all this production to reduce suffering, using means that create extra suffering on the way, for both the animal and the bereaved. I will not come here again, and I highly recommend going someplace else when you find yourself in the position of having to put your beloved pet to sleep.

I brought my German Shepherd here when she was a puppy to get all her puppy shots and care. Dr. Joe took such great care of her back then. We then moved away until recently. My Shepherd started acting ill and we didnt have a regular vet here in Bountiful since moving back so I figured Id go back to Dr. Joe. Within just a few days, we ended up having to put our sweet girl to sleep due to what turned out to be an aggressive tumor that was causing internal bleeding. Looking back on the care we received, I cant imagine being better taken care of by any other veterinary staff. Dr. Joe knew the prognosis and told us he would normally suggest IV therapy at their office for the day but in this case, he advised us to take her home and spoil her for the weekend (knowing she wouldnt be around much longer). That meant so much to me because Dr. Joe couldve insisted on making an extra buck but he didnt. Advising us to take her home while we came to terms with her diagnosis was such a gift. He also gave us his personal cell number to call him if her condition worsened and he wasnt in the office. When the time came to put her to sleep, we brought her in and Dr. Joe wasnt there but Dr. Karen took care of us and handled the situation so beautifully. It made the hardest time in our lives that much easier. You will be in good hands if you take your pets here!

Dont go here! I went in to get a simple quote on how much his dew claw would cost to get fixed and they tried to charge me a $47 service fee for it. I dont need to be charged to find out how much I will be charged. I could understand if they actually serviced me and my dog. If every vet practice was like theirs I would spend $200 just shopping around for prices. When I finally received my quote it included many items unrelated to his dew claw like teeth cleaning, vaccinations, ear solution and swab test etc totaling over $500. After asking them to remove the miscellaneous items they returned with a quote still over $200 with many items still unrelated to his dew claw. I took my dog to Camelot Pet Resort the next day and got his paw fixed for $70. They also had a service fee but they actually did something....they fixed my dogs foot and gave me solution for his ear. They also made me feel like I was abusing my dog which is what another comment said as well. When the lady went to look at his paw he shied away and she said "Ive never seen such a shy lab before, is somebody hurting you buddy?" My eyes almost popped out of my head. Bad experience overall. Check out Lake View Animal Hospital, Camelot Pet Resort and for exotics...Wasatch Exotic in Cottonwood heights is excellent as well.

Phenomenal experience and really dedicated staff!!! Today was my cats first trip to Animal Medical Clinic, and also my first time taking her in for an emergency visit. We were able to get an appointment with less than a half hour notice early in the morning. Dr Moon and Jess were extremely informational and explained thoroughly (from most to least likely) why my cat was sick. They drew up a detailed invoice of each step they recommended for treatment, and let me look over the invoice to make sure I agreed with all of it before proceeding. It made me very comfortable knowing that they would let me accept or decline certain medicines or shots, and that I would know very clearly what to expect cost-wise (which ended up being very reasonable). They sent us home with tons of information, tools, and some great gear to get us started on the new cat diet plan. The cherry on top was that they even sent my cat home with a new toy mouse :) I left feeling extremely relieved and full of new knowledge & understanding. Huge thank you to all of the staff for turning a scary experience into an overwhelmingly positive one!!!
