I had lower back (SI joint) pain ....first visit: Dr Sullivan asked me some questions (no x-rays), and did an adjustment, which he didnt feel worked at first, so he did it again- HARD! He told me to come back in a few days- after a few hrs, my back started hurting a lot worse, but I went back as was planned..... he asked me if the pain was worse or better, and I told him MUCH WORSE, and that I was having to take advil now - so he quickly told me to lie down on my back, and he did the SAME adjustment he had done the first day! A hard twist! This appt was VERY short (maybe 2 minutes), as he just seemed to want to hurry me in and out. He told me to come back again in 3 days, as I recall.... I left there that day nearly doubling over in pain, and swore I would never go back. My back hurt really bad, and it literally took 2 mos to get it back to where it was when I first went to Dr Sullivan. I forfeited the rest of my visits, and Id also bought visits for my son that I forfeited. I am now scared to death of chiropractors, and have since figured out how to deal with my SI joint problem on my own. In doing a lot of research, I found that the correct adjustment for an SI joint was NOT anything close to what he was doing! I honestly wonder if he did permanent damage, as it is now a chronic problem. I would be scared to death to go back to this place. They are just guessing, as they dont do x-rays. Also, Dr Sullivan just wanted to hurry me in and out and would not listen....it was a horrible experience. ----- in response to the response from owner after I posted this review: I did originally write Dr Sutherland, which I realize was my mistake, and I have corrected it now. There certainly was a Sheryl A registered at THE JOINT in Sugarhouse, because that IS me, & I was certainly a client! I still have the scanner card on my keyring! I am only posting this to let people know what to be aware of, and that my personal experience was NOT GOOD.

All 4 chiropractors at this location are excellent. Dr. Martin got rid of the pelvic pain I was experiencing during the last part of my pregnancy, and he got baby to move from breech position to the correct position. When my water broke and I never went into labor and was starting to get worried, I went to Dr. Peterson for an adjustment that evening and then went into labor in the middle of the night (a quick 5 hour labor!). Many people think that youre just going to get a standard one-size-fits-all adjustment here, but these chiropractors are knowledgeable and experienced and really know what theyre doing! Any time Ive gone to them with a specific issue, theyve known exactly what to do about it and they take the time to work on it. There have also been several times Ive walked in just a few minutes before closing time and I am still greeted with a smile and they still take their time with me. They are real professionals. I opted for the membership because of the incredible price (4 adjustments a month for $69 and only $10 for any additional adjustments that month). The 4 visits expire when the month is up, so you have to make sure you use them before then. But when my newborn was diagnosed with a heart defect and had to have surgery and would be in the hospital for a few weeks and I needed to stay with him, the owner James made sure I could still use the visits I was paying for, at a later time when my baby was back home and recovered. That meant a lot to me that I had one less thing to worry about. Im glad I found The Joint. They make it affordable to receive quality chiropractic care on a regular basis. Why cant all chiropractors do the same?

My first experience with The Joint was very positive. This was my first time ever seeing a chiropractor, and they were very understanding and very thorough. After filling out some paperwork and watching a short video, I saw Dr. Hale (I think thats how to spell it). He was very kind and friendly, and took everything into consideration. He was also very careful to explain everything he was looking for and going to do (all while making jokes), which put me right at ease. He was also careful to let me know when he was going to make an adjustment and gave me breathing time when I needed it, especially after my first neck adjustment. It was what worried me the most but afterward I told him it was way less terrible than I thought it would be! Afterward we talked about my course of treatment and he gave me a clear picture of what I could expect and what results we could both look for. Dr. Hale overall was very kind, thorough and helpful. The next day they called to follow up which was really nice. I also was very pleased to see a wide variety of people coming in and out. There were people of varying shapes and sizes which helped me feel less out-of-place as a plus-size person. They treat all kinds of people with respect and dignity. Overall, The Joint is a great place for affordable chiropractic treatment and I look forward to coming back.

This wasnt a great experience for me. I went in with lower back pain and wanted to hear how I could get the pain to go away. I talked about 20 mins with 5 mins about my back/spinal cord and 15 mins about why I need a membership so I could come back multiple times. He kept saying "its like brushing your teeth, you cant brush once and expect them to stay clean. You need to come to get your back aligned often." That analogy made zero sense to me but I thought I would let him work on me to see how I felt. He wanted to crack my all the spinal areas but I told him not to touch my neck area which Im grateful I did. He asked if he could do middle back and lower back cause they were connected. I said ok, he cracked my middle back and lower back. Middle back hurt a lot and took 5 days before it felt back to normal. Problem was in the lower back which was not solved. He did however give some good advice after he cracked my back. Go Ice heavily where it hurts and that will help the pain. I wish he would have just told me that before he started cracking my back. Its like he knew what would have helped all along but he just wanted to crack the back. His only interest was selling me and not helping me. Also, every time I would ask him a question to get clarity, he would look at me as if I was dumb...Its like brushing your teeth.

Every joint location Ive been to hasnt been the best of best experience but this location is by far the worst! The receptionist always looks like she hates her life and the doctors herd you in and out in of your adjustment as fast as they can. The whole thing takes less than two or three minutes. I felt like to them I was not a human being with my own unique joint problems. I was just another standard adjustment, no matter what specific pain I tried to explain I had. Super uncomfortable. They also nickel and dime you to death, and when you sign up for their monthly plan they dont tell you all the fine print. It is absolutely my own fault for not reading all the tiny little clauses in their contract, but they should mention (while youre signing up) that you will have to pay for an entire month even AFTER you cancel or they will hunt you down and send you to collections. It is especially frustrating when I now live two hours away from any Joint location so Im paying $70 for adjustments I CANT EVEN USE (and they expire within the month, so I cant even come in to use them if I ever visit.) Overall, the point is that you are not a person to them. You are just another pocket to take money out of. Nothing, even up to your specific adjustment is personal at all.
