12/6/14 We highly recommend trying laser treatments. We kenneled our two Standard Poodles, Jasper age 10 and Dudley age 6 for two days mid October 2014. Upon picking them up Jasper slipped a disk in his already arthritic back as he and my husband were walking towards the door and collapsed, All four of his paws curled in and he was in full paralysis. We feared he needed surgery or to be put down. Dr Crossman immediately administered a steroidal shot and calmly explained our options. We carried him home at 4:30 PM and hoped for the best knowing that anything we could do in the first 24 hours were critical to his recovery. We tried to get him to pee by holding him up, but he was unable. It was gonna be a long night. I slept on the floor next to him and at 1 AM he finally needed to go out and dragged himself to the door. I helped him walk and had to hold him up because he couldnt stand for as long as was necessary to fully empty his bladder. He also wanted some food and I gave him a Rimadyl. I felt these were good signs even though he was whining from the pain and walking on partially curled feet. The next morning I carried him back in for the first of six recommended laser treatments. Fearful he would fall, I carried him back out. Once home, I took him out of the truck and he hobbled over to a favorite spot and lifted his leg. Another good sign. That first week he went every two days for 8 minutes, after his 2nd treatment he put his front paws up on the desk to say goodbye and on his third treatment the technician assumed this was his sixth treatment because he was trotting out the door. I was elated. Week two brought two more treatments and he started wrestling with Dudley again. By the third week, he had his final treatment and we also noticed he could squat lower to poop than before he was hurt. He also has not needed his Rimadyl since this happened just under 2 months ago. Needless to say we are so thankful he responded so well and that there are alternative options to surgery.Thank you also to the incredibly caring staff who looked out for us and Jasper.

I had job shadowed at rutland vet through a program at school and was pleased with how much I had learned. My family knew that we wanted to switch vets because we were unhappy with another local vet we were going to. So in the paper we saw a coupon for rutland vet for a free vet visit for new customers. So we thought we would give it a try. I am still a teen and because my mom was working I brought the cats in myself. The first day we just went for the free exam for our newest addition piper, and to get a nail trim for our other cat shadow. When I walked in and went up to the desk the lady very nicely greeted me and when she pulled up our paperwork told us that shadow needed shots, not their fault that was a mistake on the old vets part for not telling us. So I told her that I could not do that today because I did not bring that much money because I wasnt expecting it. She said that was fine and we scheduled another appointment for her. When we got in the exam room the vet took one look at pipers ears and said that they were really bad and didnt even ask before they swabbed them and examined them under the microscope, and then came back with the result that he had a double ear infection and she had already made up antibiotics for him, so I had to pay for them. The thing was we had not seen any signs of an ear infection.. then here comes the worst thing the vet took one look at his teeth, just pulled up his lip for 2 seconds and said oh his teeth are awful he needs a dental now. The estimate on this dental was $300.00.. I couldnt leave the building until I payed atleast half my bill of 100.00, some different than the nail trim I was expecting... I wasnt totally convinced on the teeth so we went to Eastwood Animal Clinic and Dr. Bruce told me that Pipers teeth looked great and he def did not need a dental. So I strongly suggest getting a second opinion before doing anything major here..

The professionalism, expertise and hospitality at Rutland Vet is definitely a 5 for me. They treat me and my furry kids with respect and kindness. Maureen was so understanding and compassionate during the time that two of our furry kids passed on. She seemed to sense how much we needed from her and when to step back. Our pets are our life...we do everything with them. We feel very content with the care that Rutland gives us and our furry kids. We have two now who actually love going in there...I believe that the staff helps them to enjoy the visit. I rely on their knowledge and experience to guide me in maintaining the health and longevity of our kids lives. Having a pet does require a bit of money these days....more than it did 10 years ago. But everything is more expensive...a whole lot of prevention can prevent a whole lot of costly interventions...I support people to adopt and spay .. a pet does not have to cost $1500....save a life...adopt.

I am very impressed with the professionalism and expertise at Rutland Veterinary Clinic that I consistently experience. I have several dogs all that mean the world to me. Dr. Mac Pherson and his staff have expertly cared for them from birth through death in a most compassionate and competent manner. I was at the clinic recently as an emergency case and afterwards was speaking with another client whose dog just had surgery. We both talked how fortunate we were to have this practice in the community. I told him I was in contact with other English Pointer owners from around the world and their main concern always was lack of good verterinary care. I feel very blessed to have this expertise that I continually can count on.

I am the Administrator for Noahs Ark Animal Hospital in Danbury, CT and South Salem Animal Hospital in South Salem, NY. The owner, Dr. Jeffrey Hubsher, asked me to post the following review on his behalf. I own two successful animal hospitals in and near Danbury, CT. My dog became ill while I was in Rutland, VT. I brought “Mini” to see Dr. Robert McPherson at Rutland Veterinary Clinic. The service was excellent and caring. The facility was clean and inviting and the care that Dr. McPherson delivered was exceptional. Mini responded to the medication and is doing well. From someone on the inside of the industry I highly recommend this animal hospital. They were great! Dr. Jeffrey Hubsher

Rutland Veterinary Clinic and Surgical Center is the finest facility that Ive ever used for my pet care. The environment is clean and the staff very gentle and attentive. I was able to tour the operating room and recovery area when my cat had some minor surgery and I felt that she was in the very best care. My only concern is the cost which is a bit high but they give you options in choosing what is best for you and your beloved pet. I only wish that I as a human could receive such comprehensive care. I will always use them as long as they are sensitive to my financial situation. Their emergency hours, doctors, staff and level of care are exemplary.
