NH Central Vet saved my dog after he was badly attacked, and I cannot say enough positive things about the caring, compassionate staff here. In the summer of 2010, my dog was attacked by two vicious dogs that got loose from their walker near our house. He was literally ripped open in places and in very bad shape. The attack happened on a Sunday (when normal vets would have been closed). Fortunately, I live by NH Central and was able to get immediate attention for my dog. I had previously never given any thought to the importance of having an emergency vet nearby, and I am incredibly lucky that NH Central was there for me and and my dog that day. My dog underwent emergency surgery that night. The ICU is continuously staffed and there are always doctors in house. They monitored him constantly-- I cant imagine a better set-up for animals that require serious care. The surgeon was frank and honest with me about his condition, which I very much appreciated, and was willing to spend time discussing his situation with me in the middle of the night. The staff were incredibly accommodating about allowing me to visit my dog during his stay and they were always happy to give me updates on how he was doing. Most importantly, everyone at NH Central Vet-- the front desk staff, the technicians, and the vets-- are incredibly loving, sweet and wonderful with the animals. (They were also incredibly patient and compassionate with me.) It was a huge relief to know that my dog was being cared for by such wonderful people. I have no doubt that the compassion and loving attention they gave him helped him heal. Despite all that he went through at the vets office, he is always happy to go back there and loves seeing the staff. I find this to be really telling about how well the animals are treated at NH Central. NH Central Vet is also my normal vet. Their prices are reasonable if you go during normal hours. As one would expect, its more costly if you have an emergency. Ive never felt rushed or pressured during my appointments and the techs and vets are very organized and competent. In summary, I would highly recommend this vet clinic. They saved my dogs life and I will always be grateful for all that they have done for me and my dog.

PACEMAKER FAILURE (two procedures)..... Our beloved westie DIED 6 weeks after a pacemaker implant surgery. It was a most horrible experience!! We spent $7000.00. We were told our westie was an excellent candidate for a pacemaker. We were told this is a simple procedure, and their cardiologist does this procedure all the time. We were told our westie would be as good as new in just 2 days!!! NOTHING COULD BE FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH!!!! The cardiologists assistant Stephanie sold us a bag of goods..... The cardiologist is French Canadian and has been at this hospital about 1 year; and spoke very poor English and we could hardly understand him. His communication skills were very poor. The pacemaker procedure was done incorrectly the first time and the cardiologist had to go back 3 days later and do a complete pacemaker procedure a second time!!! After the first day we told the hospital the dog was not doing well. The hospital told us the doctor was not going to be in for 3 days, and we could bring the dog back than. It was at that point he opened our westie up and did the pacemaker procedure over again! Our westie was never quite the same... Our westie was never the same after the second pacemaker procedure. When we got our dog home his breathing was labored right from the beginning. He had an elevated respritory rate 35 plus breaths per minute); higher than the normal range given to us on the discharge papers. We explained this to the cardiologist and he simply did not care. OUR WESTIE DID NOT HAVE TO DIE, IF NOT FOR THE POLICY, PROCEDURES AND LACK OF CARE ON THE PART OF THE HOSPITAL... The hospitals extreme costs are paramount at this hospital. We are seeking to have out $7000 returned to us. AT THIS TIME WE WOULD SIMPLY SAY, BEWARE OF THIS HOSPITAL!!!! BEWARE OF THIS HOSPITAL..... THERE ARE OBVIOUSLY MANY MANY MANY BAD REVIEW ON THIS REVIEW BOARD.... BEWARE OF THIS HOSPITAL...

New Haven Central Animal Hospital is like the person who wrote on Jan. 22, 2009 said, NHCAH is an EMERGENCY VET. Also after working at a vet hospital, the Dr.s have to approve the estimates, the receptionist is not the Dr. and therefore cannot give a straight estimate without getting it reviewed by a Dr. first before calling you back and telling you. And depending on when your dog last had a comprehensive exam, it was probably necessary. If it was over 30 days, most vets like to do another for safety reason for the animal, make sure nothing has evolved since the last time they were checked, or if they have never personally checked out the animal, they want to make sure that they have PERSONALLY made sure that the pet is ok to undergo whatever treatment or procedure. And truthfully, I personally the only time I went there, did NOT have a great experience and for over a year, held a grudge and resented them for the way that they handled my dog with what was going on. We werent allowed to see him until we made a life or death decision and then we had to go down to their treatment area to put our dog down, and to top it off, we just wanted to go down, say our good byes in 1 min and be done, instead it took about 10-15 min for them to realize we were ready for him to go peacefully and be on our way. However, Im over my grudge (notice the rating!!), have been on their end in the vet hospital and NHCAH is a wonderful hospital with well equipped staff and facility that I personally, and my place of work recommend to our clients in the event of an emergency. You could have ended up in a place much worse where they didnt treat you pet at all.

My 10 month old Australian Labradoodle severed her achilles tendon on our dishwasher (a very very rare accident) and couldnt walk what-so-ever, we took her to our vet who referred us to Dr Pond because he had rarely seen an injury like this. Dr pond saw our puppy the very next day for surgical repair, despite his already busy schedule of surgeries. Lady was in the hospital for 2 days and home on the third with a cast. We were still very worried about Lady and called to speak to Dr pond frequently, he was always right there to return our phone calls and addressed our concerns. 6 weeks later, Lady had her cast off and still wasnt bearing any weight on her hind leg so we again called Dr Pond and he saw he immediately, He listened to us and we agreed that it would be best to take out the screw and pins that were holding her leg stable for further healing. Usually the pin and screw would stay in longer to heal the tendon but every patient is different. Dr Pond isnt mainstream, he individualizes care for each patient. Lady started to bear weight on her injured leg within 2 days, and is now using all four again! We thought Lady would never use it again. We are so happy with Ladys prognosis and have the greatest appreciation for Dr Pond. He is very soft spoken and has a great bedside manner for his patients and their families. I would recommend him over and over again to family and friends. Animals are expensive so be prepared to spend the money for quality of care.
