I unfortunately did not have a great experience here. Im giving two stars because the vet is both very nice and knowledgeable, however, theyre extremely expensive and do not explain where costs are coming from - at ALL. And definitely push you to do as much as possible (i.e. spend as much as humanly possible on sometimes completely optional things described as mandatory). Almost every word the guy says and thing he touches costs you money, so beware (and he does not explain what costs what). First time I went in to have a rash & ears looked at with one my dogs and when I left, I was thinking $200 based on previous visits to other vets (in Plainville). On my way out they charged me like triple, straight out of my pocket. Looking at the bill - I was charged for things that I didnt ask for (I.e. - $100 for a "cotton swab", literally a cue tip, to validate the fact that my dog had an ear infection that I already told the vet he did). Anyway, yesterday I had to go back in to get both of my dogs a rabies shot that was due. All I wanted was a rabies shot. As I walked out, I was surprised that the bill was almost $200. Upon further inspection, oh! $120 for a "wellness visit". Then $33 each for the rabies shot. All I asked for was a rabies shot and they found a way to milk another $120 simply by weighing my dogs while they were up on the table getting their shot. Unbelievable. On top of this, the vet tried to push ANOTHER shot which I declined due to my previous visit and knowing he was going to charge the heck out of me for it. I thought I had stopped him but apparently he still found a way to get his money through the "wellness visit" that I did not request, nor did he explain that it would cost something. Just very disappointed with the experience. Well be taking the hike back to Ragged Mountain in Plainville, because we loved our previous vet. Far more transparent!

We have been going to Hopmeadow Animal Hospital since 1981. They have been our primary vets since shortly after we moved to the area. When something works well for you, you stay with it. The office is large enough to provide high quality care to our babies, but small enough that everyone knows you and your pets by name. I cannot imagine going anywhere else. The level of compassion for those difficult times, alone, not only those with bad outcomes, but those stressful times, like waiting for test results or needing help with expressing the bladder of my little dog following a spinal cord injury (which took some creativity), is reason enough that I cannot imagine going anywhere else. Compassion and quality of care ranges from the Vets to the technical and office staff, and are not in short supply. I wish all of my doctors cared so much!

I am pleased to have the opportunity to rate Hopmeadow Animal Hospital as highly as possible. I have been bringing my 2 pugs there for 10 years since I brought them into my home as puppies. From routine care to a serious medical condition, I have always felt comfortable and secure in the knowledge that my dogs get the very best care. On a routine basis, the staff is friendly and helpful without fail. Plus, if you want a smart and sweet Vet, Dr. Hal Mooney is the one. He clearly loves animals and his work. I want to add that my pugs are the first pets I have ever had so my learning curve was huge for quite awhile. I am very grateful that Hopmeadow Animal Hospital staff proved to be exceptional guides and teachers for me from the start.

The doctor was lovely, so knowledgeable. Our usual vet was closed today - no doctor on Thursdays (which I did not know), so we had to find somewhere to take our golden retriever who was obviously suffering from some skin problem. The office staff was polite, warm, friendly, and informative. The environment is perfect and very clean, and it is not filled with all new modern, expensive decor that I would feel was built into the pricing. The pricing is very reasonable, but more than anything the care was excellent. Our dog turned out to have something somewhat unusual, and our usual vet did not catch it when we were in 2 weeks ago. I highly recommend this vet.

Ive been taking my dogs and cats to Hopmeadow Animal Hospital for approx. 33 years now - even when I lived 30 miles away! The doctors and the staff have always taken great care with my precious pets, and I cant think of a time when they ever made me feel hesitant about leaving one in their care. I feel that the doctors there have always stayed up-to-date on latest treatments and feel very confident in Dr. Mooneys surgical skills whenever needed. After-care is superb as well. I highly recommend this facility to anyone who wants the best for their pets.

Dr. Hal (Mooney) and his staff have the best Vet practice! The front staff are friendly and helpful with scheduling your appointments whether by a phone call or in person. They are dedicated to making your visit as comfortable as possible. My dog loves the attention and affection she receives at every visit. I have never felt "rushed" through the visit or left not having a plan with all my concerns addressed . Dr."Hal" is simply the best ! His practice includes other Vets and techs who all strive to provide outstanding care.

The staff and care at Hopmeadow Animal Hospital is top notch. Last year, we adopted a cat with multiple medical needs. Dr. Hal and his staff have been so kind, patient and so diligent with his care. He is thorough, explains the diagnosis and prognosis in terms our whole family can understand and follows up. Our cat is so relaxed and calm when he is there - he knows he is in good hands!

Dr Hal and his staff took great care of my 12-year-old Aussie when she needed oral surgery. The doctor met with me and my husband both before and after the surgery, and he showed us the x-rays and our dogs extracted teeth in order to explain what had been done and why. My dog is now pain-free, and I am grateful to Hopmeadow Animal Hospital for providing excellent care. Fiona T.

Weve experienced, friendly, compassionate and expert care for our pets for over twenty years. Most recently, one of our 11 year old cats appeared to be having an issue; she was quickly tested and, happily, found to be fine. She came home after the ultrasound none the worse for wear - and we know shes healthy! We highly recommend Hopmeadow Animal Hospital.
