my dog was really sick and i had to take her here at 2 am last night, there was one other couple at the hospital infront of me. they were very quick to check me in and charge that 200 bucks, and then left me in the waiting room alone, no one at the desk. no one to check on me or my dog. and they told me i couldint go outside becuase the door need to stay locked. i stayed there for 3 and a half hours while my dog puked and cryed and pooped all over there floors. and i had nothing to clean it up and no one to ask for something. so we sat there in it. after all of this im finally seen, they gave me a list of things that i need to do becuase my dog is in critical condition. and they were now very concerned, and highly suggested thousands of dollors worth of test, and said again. she is in danger. my dog was walking around and very alert. maybe slightly dehydrated. and in need of help. but they were makeing it sound like she needed surgery asap. so i agreed to a few test, and they did a bunch of things not telling me the price, or really what it was or how it was going to help. becuase she is now, 5 hours after walking in the door, IN DANGER FOR HER LIFE, according to everyone around me. yet, the test i did, wont come in untill the next day. no one told me that one. and they quickly booted me out the door after i told them i didnt want more test untill i got the first results back. (i was thinking we would wait a few hours, not over a day) and that brings me to my final straw. after a big bill, ive been concerned about the results for 36 hours. so i called at 10 this morning, and they said they had them but i need a vet to talk to me and they would have the vet call. so i waited. 5 more hours before calling back. and when i called back, guess what. they said they dont have my results. now im mad. i wouldnt put it past them to see there is something wrong and i need medication, but are waiting untill my vets office is closed to tell me so i have to go back. (they know my vet and the hours) im never going back again. my dog is doing much better, but i dont think it was much help from them there was one nice person i talked to, i dont know if she was a vet but she just came in for the day as i was about to go. she was the most helpful and very kind. wish i got her name. and i wish i had more time with her. please go anywhere else.

My puppy broke her leg around 7am last winter andd I took her to VCA Cheshire Vet. Seeing a vet (or vet assistant, I dont know which) was very easy, as this was an emergency case. They told me to take her to my regular vet, on the other side of Cheshire, for the surgery, and gave her a shot of painkiller, charging me $400 for the meds and the information. I went to my vet and was told to go back to VCA because theyre the only ones in Cheshire with a surgeon on staff. I paid him about $125. I think that considering the staff at VCA *KNEW* they were the only vet in Cheshire with a surgeon on staff, it was kind of ridiculous to send my in-pain dog across town when they knew wed just have to come back to them in an hour or so. This is an example of the heartlessness at VCA. Fast-forward to the surgery. Two vets worked on her leg, one was the normal surgeon; the other was an apprentice or intern or something. The younger intern/apprentice guy was incredibly kind and he really assured us and explained everything about the surgery. The older woman was awful, very snide and witchy with a capital B. Im not sure which one was out of place here, as all the receptionists are nice enough. The surgery went well and we paid them $2500 or so, which included numerous follow-ups throughout the next few months. Many meds had to be purchased separately and changed as my puppy had adverse reactions to some. Eventually, her leg healed and did not have to be amputated, though it dont bend anymore, as the pins moved or something during her recovery and her bone ended up fusing together. Overall, I would recommend VCA Cheshire Vet for very pressing emergencies, such as surgeries, only. They do know what theyre doing, even if you feel as though youre dealing with snakes and weasels to get it done. Definitely look elsewhere for a regular vet; there are many more compassionate offices around the Cheshire/Wallingford area.

I will never bring another dog or cat to this vet hospital again. Even if I have to treat them myself. My dog was elderly with a heart condition and on multiple medications. He was having a heart problem when I rushed him in. They took him into the back room for treatment an I was waiting to hear he was going to be ok. When they came in the room I could tell the news was bad, very bad. He was suffering and he wasnt going to make it. My heart was (and still is) broken. My problem is when I went to get my wife and bring her back they were going to try and charge me before I left to get her. Then, when we got back we held him when they gave him the shots. She never told us it would be instantly over and he would go gently to sleep. He gave a small yelp when his heart stoped. He was in pain! The final straw was the vet tech mishandled him and he bit her before they brought him to us. Remember, hes an elderly dog in distress, scared in a strange environment. The tech didnt call me, didnt put on gloves and reached into the cage. The heartbreak was losing him but they made it infinitely worse because after he was gone they said they could not release him to me. Because the vet tech mishandled him and he bit her they had to "send some nerve tissue in for rabies testing". They were reluctant to tell me what or how much tissue we were talking about. They finally told me they had to decapitate my dog (my friend and family) and talk out his whole brain !!! I think they are money first then dog - I think you should look somewhere else for the sake of your loved ones !

FIVE STARS!!!! I brought my 4mo old puppy Sandy Cheeks to Cheshire Vet after she broke her leg, and needed surgery to fix it. I have never been so happy with the service at an animal hospital (or anywhere for that matter) in my life!! Every single person that I encountered there were some of the most kind, caring, gentle people I have ever met. Not only did they care about my puppys needs and feelings, they also cared about mine. They called me before she went in for surgery on her leg, and they called me when she woke up from anesthesia. They told me I could call to check on her anytime I wanted to see how she was doing. Dr. Stern did a wonderful job on Sandys surgery!! I will definitely use Cheshire Vet again!! Absolutely fantastic!! This is coming from someone that was a vet tech at another animal hospital for a few years. Like someone else said below, surgery and good QUALITY care for your pets is expensive. Lets be real. If you are not willing to pay for the proper care that your pet needs then dont get one! The tests that they do (especially before surgery) are VERY necessary. They need to do those tests to make sure that your pet is stable enough to go under anesthesia. Would you rather pay a little extra to make sure they are stable enough to go under or would you rather lose your pet? Thats a no brainer to me.
