***This review is for the billing/account department only*** In short: Got an MRI done almost a year ago (keep an eye on that part). It was requested by my doctor to diagnose hip/spine pain Ive been experiencing. MRI gets done, no problem. Doctors office, radiologist all bill my insurance, no problem. Flash forward to today. I get a bill for a HUGE amount of money from NOVANT/UVA. No itemization, no statement on the bill for what its for, nothing. The only reference is a date for service which was ten (10) months ago. This is a statement taken directly from their Patient Bill of Rights: "Your rights and responsibilities as a patient - A detailed bill and an explanation of that bill." So exactly how is sending me a bill with no details or explanation of that bill satisfying those stated rights? A one page bill with just a service date on is is NOT a detailed bill . So I call the accounts office at NOVANT/UVA and ask them what this is for. Response: The MRI. I ask for more details, they dont have any, they just say it was for the MRI I had ten (10) months ago. I tell them that was all billed and paid for by insurance, etc., and his response was that insurance rejected my claim and I own the amount on the bill. I ask him exactly when did my insurance company rejected the claim, and he tells me 10 days ago. Fine. So I call the insurance company. It turns out that they sent a request to NOVANT/UVA for clarification on the charge EIGHT (8) MONTHS AGO and NOVANT/UVA NEVER RESPONDED. So NOVANT/UVA was asked to provide information to my insurance company and just decided not to bother. Why? Well, if youre paranoid youd think it was because they know theyll get less money from the insurance company than from me. If youre not paranoid youd think it was because NOVANT/UVA is incompetent and lost track of the request. Whats troubling is that according to NOVANT/UVA, they cant or wont even tell me if they have a record of that request. You cant talk to the people who deal with the insurance company at NOVANT/UVA, they wont let you. They tell you they are unreachable and you have to let them examine your case, which may take a "couple of weeks". In the meantime, the clock on refiling the claim with your insurance company keeps ticking. So basically, heres the scam at NOVANT/UVA is trying to pull on me: If the insurance company asks for clarification, NOVANT/UVA will just ignore it until your insurance company is basically forced to deny the claim for lack of documentation. Then NOVANT/UVA will turn around and bill you for the full amount. The timing of all this being just about a month before my window to refile the claim is up is curious, especially when coupled with the fact that NOVANT/UVA doesnt send you an itemized statement which is in clear violation of their "patient bill of rights". Beware of NOVANT/UVA! Examine every single bill they send you and when they do send you a bill, spend the time to double check it with the doctors office and your insurance company. Thats good advice regardless of the hospital, but its especially true of NOVANT/UVA. Friends of ours who work in the medical field in this area say that NOVANT/UVA is the worst out there for costs, billing, and record keeping and now I see why. Dont get tests done at any NOVANT/UVA facility, theyre triple the cost of INOVA at least. Go anywhere else and save yourself money. Believe it or not, so far Ive gotten more help from my insurance company in trying to figure this out than I have from these corporate shills.

Went into the non busy ER at 2pm w my 5yo son who was having an asthma attack. I gave the staff the rundown on the meds provided at home and his health history. He had an Xray and was diagnosed w pneumonia and a double ear infection. He was Never given oxygen in the ER despite being short of breath w SAO2 in the mid 80s (normal is 94 or higher). He was only treated w Albuterol TWICE while in the hospital. We were there FROM 2PM-2AM. His condition deteriorated and by 2AM he was on a non- rebreather on the L&D floor (they do not have a" pediatric" floor), at which point I demanded he be transferred out. The INOVA ambulance team that showed up(and saved his life) immediately put him on CONTINUOUS Albuterol therapy and OXYGEN~ which I had been begging for, for hours (and he stayed on this continuously for 2 days because his asthma was allowed to go without proper treatment)! He was admitted to the INOVA Childrens Hospital PICU!!! And stayed there for 2 days (Haymarket had him on their L&D floor with NO pediatric DOC in house!! While on L&D a Neonatologist sat and WATCHED his monitors from the nurses station and did NOTHING as he cont. to struggle to breath)!!! I had to demand he be put on oxygen also! Haymarket Docs, RT, and nurses had no idea how to treat an Asthma pt OR a pediatric pt. They couldnt even find a pediatric nasal cannula or oxygen mask when they finally decided to use one!!! Staff even admitted to not being set up for pediatrics! In addition, he was never given a pillow, blanket or asked if he was hungry in the ER. He was in the ER from 2pm until 11pm (AND never given oxygen while struggling to breath)!! Yes, this is all documented and I have a copy of the chart. Unqualified staff AND no personal touch. No one was ever rude or nasty, but this was an emergent situation that an ER should have been able to treat. He ended up on a PICU because they refused to give him Albuterol and oxygen which he got from INOVA Childrens Hospital immediately and was then transported via ambulance. INOVA also stated there was NO EAR INFECTION or PNEUMONIA! I am a recovery room nurse and have never seen the likes of such poor patient care; not to mention a hospital FULL of unqualified staff. This may be a new facility, but there is NO excuse for this!

This is a new hospital in the Haymarket (Prince William County) area. It was convenient for my wife and I to visit as its nearly a 5 min drive to the Emergency Room from our home in Fauquier County. Ive visited this Medical Center on a limited number of occasions, about three but the last visit was quite upsetting to say the least. They have moved the ER to the rear of the Medical Center which at the moment is quite confusing to find. Additionally, there is absolutely no privacy when walking up to check in with the administration desk. The seating area is nearly 5 feet away from the administration desk and when discussing your private issues with them, everyone can hear. My wife was admitted and although it was supposedly an unusually busy night, she was admitted at 6PM and not seen for a few hours. The nurse who took her to her room was very unfriendly and spoke quite forcefully to her demanding a urine sample. About 2 hours later, she was finally seen by a Physicians Assistant who also spoke quite forcefully to my wife. The PA made assumptions about her care without discussing the situation with her and made us feel rushed. She would frequently interrupt us while attempting to explain the health situation of my wife. Only later by approaching the attending physician did we get our issue somewhat resolved. My wifes urine sample sat there for nearly two hours before being collected and analyzed. The PA promised she would help my wife obtain an appointment with a nearby clinic on an urgent basis but when we called in the next day, the clinic denied our early appointment request. When contacting the ER to obtain support, the nurse on station had no idea about the situation and basically after numerous failed attempts to help us, informed us he couldnt help her unless she was admitted to the ER again. In total, our visit to the ER took nearly six hours from start to finish. Would strongly recommend going to another medical facility if you are considering visiting this medical center.
