Kiln Creek had the care of two of my cats. I took my first cat to the vet for her annual vaccines. Suddenly one day, I felt a small lump on my cat’s shoulder. I am not sure what it is, so I keep a watch on it, feeling it every day until I realize that it is not going away – in fact, it seems to be growing at an alarming rate. I took my cat to the vet for an examination. I am shocked to find out that my cat has cancer – somehow caused by the very vaccinations that I was told would protect her health. This is a very rare condition, but should have been warned about the possiblility of cancer before having the vaccine in this area. When it was discovered that she had cancer, Kiln Creek Vet then informed me this does happen occasionally. When she died, Kiln Creek made a tax deductible donation to Virginia Tech in my cats honor. The vets should have informed me of the probability of developing cancer with vaccines administered in this area. Had I known, I would have opted out of the vaccine. My second cat became sick. We took her to Kiln Creek and $400 later, the vet who was tending to her did not know what was wrong with her. We brought her home .Within several hours of being home, she had shortness of breath, and she was hiding behind furniture. We took her to the Emergency Vet, and the doctors said she was having heart issues. They felt any vet should have been able to diagnosis her. The ER vets said she had no hope. We had to put her to asleep. These incidents happened some time ago, but I feel it is important for people to be aware.

The people have always been friendly, the vets competent. I have found them too quick to test and explore every possibility. I took my cat in because I was pretty sure he had a urinary tract infection - been there before and knew what to look for. I did sign the sheet giving them permission to examine the cat. $400 later I was told he did indeed have a urinary tract infection. I find that a ridiculous fee. Years go I took my dog in for a spot on his rump - he was chewing away and it raw and ugly. I was told he needed something akin to Valium and they wanted to test the area and give an Rx for cream. All this was going to cost me $350 - $300. I left, went to Petsmart, showed an employee the area on my dog. They sold me a $5 bottle of Hotspot spray and within 2 weeks the area was cleared up and hair was growing back. My point isnt necessarily that the vet is expensive but that they never try the inexpensive route. WHen I left the vet refusing all treatment it was made clear that I was not being a good pet owner. The UTI expense was partly my fault - I could have just asked for the cat to be checked for a UTI and that is what i will do next time. Also partly in their defense - I think all vets go overboard in their treatment of animals. I know the animals cant express what is wrong but there are way too many tests run. And no one seems to want to try an inexpensive cure first to see if that will work.

@Thomas: I feel your pain in the loss of your cat. Thats a horrible thing to happen. What I will say in Kiln Creeks defense is that whenever I saw Dr Sue Stiff for my cats, she frequently made sure that I understood what the risks were for rabies shots. There was a 3 year shot and a 1 year shot. Both are considered acceptible, but the 3 year shot had a *higher risk* of causing cancer. That meant the 1 year vaccine ALSO had risk attached to it, just not quite as high. FYI, Kiln Creek generally only does the 1 year shot for that reason. Beware that if you microchip your animal, that has ALSO been linked to cancer. That said, I believe Dr Sue Stiff is no longer with Kiln Creek (in Gloucester now?), so your experience with them could have been different. Most of my trips there have been generally positive, but they do tend to be a little on the expensive side. Thomas, Im real sorry for your loss, and I am in partial agreement with you, but unfortunately its against the law to not vaccinate your cats in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Its a sad risk to take, but take it you must. Kiln Creek cannot be at fault here.

*** Update! Our cat, Fluffy, has continued tio receive excellent care here! He was lovingly take care of overnight for a wound care procedure. While investigating the cause for his visit, they also found other health issues which they bright to our attention so we could have them cared for as well. Everyone who works there is beautiful and kind and truly cares about your pets! And they go out of their way to help calm your pet! We recently came here from another local vet after they began to have consistently rude service, incorrect diagnoses, and huge price increases. I can say without reservation that the choice to come to Kiln Creen Animal Care was completely the right one. We have received nothing but respectful, kind, professional care here that exceeds any expectations. Our cat has never been so well taken care of. You can tell they all truly love animals and are passionate about their health and care. Theres plenty of opportunities to ask questions and the staff is very knowledgable.

I love bringing our dog, Molly, to Kiln Creek Animal Care. Everyone is so amazing with her and us. They are always friendly and welcome you with a smile, they remember Molly and us and never mind all her love and kisses. They always very clearly explain everything to us and walk us through it step by step. I never feel any pressure, and I know when Molly is in their hands she is getting the best care out there. They arent about getting you in and out as fast as possible, they listen to your concerns, and make sure you feel good before you leave. Molly has had to have 2 surgeries and needed to be kenneled over night a couple times, and it is such a relief to not have to worry about the quality of care she is getting. I have zero complaints about Kiln Creek Animal Care and will recommend them to anyone. They have your pets best interest at heart.

Weve been taking our dog to this facility for a year now. My husband and I have always been pleased with visits. The staff has always been friendly. Theyre busy at times, as with any business, but Ive never felt ignored or treated rudely. We get my dogs food from this vet, so we have to stop by pretty regularly. Weve had our dog boarded there as well, and she really seems to love it there. The facility is nice & bright and is always very clean. I was very impressed with this office last month, when I took my dog in for her annual checkup. We were with the vet for quite a while -- 20 minutes or so. All of my questions were answered very thoroughly, and I never felt rushed. The vet even called back a couple days later to see how my dog was doing. I would recommend this office to anyone!
