Do NOT take your animal here! As a life long pet owner ive been to my fair share of emergency vets and clinics, all the way from your routine yearly check ups to emergency surgery and Peninsula Emergency Vet Clinic is by far the WORST. Please take the time to read this if you are looking for some insight, I know its long but if you love your pet dont go here. Last week my cat was having difficulty breathing and was acting strange so we decided to find an emergency vet near to have him checked out since we didnt want to wait until the morning. Front desk receptionist, Donna, was very friendly when we got in and she immediately took our cat to the back to be put on oxygen when we arrived. As I was following her back to stay with my cat some tech(found out later her name was Erika) stepped in and rudely told me I wasnt allowed to come back there with my cat and that I could wait in the lobby as she pointed to it- this did not sit well with me and gave me a very bad feeling. I explained to her that my cat is special needs since he is deaf and is very sensitive to new people and needs to be handled carefully because he will bite. But since they assured me he was on oxygen and someone would look at him shortly I went and waited patiently. While we waited, Donna, routinely stepped back to check on him and gave us updates that he was breathing better and calming down which helped ease the bad feeling I had gotten and told us that they would be taking him back for X-rays and the Dr would see us soon with the results. While waiting I observed the same rude tech, Erika, come in and out of the back assisting with other patients as she shrugged the owners off when they were trying to tell her stuff and rolled her eyes. We finally speak with the Dr and he proceeds to tell us that they were unable to get any X-rays but that he believes our cat has congestive heart failure(which is most definitely treatable) and we should euthanize him. At this point we were a little confused and upset, we had been being told that he was doing better etc and that they were getting X-rays and now all of a sudden youre telling me that I need to euthanize my cat without any proof at all? My gut feeling from the beginning was right, I asked for them to immediately bring my cat for me to see(I was going to take him down the road for a second opinion) and they were very hesitant to bring him out. Telling us that he cant breathe without the oxygen and hes suffering now and he should be put down. We made it clear that we wanted to see him before any decision was made. Erika was the one to bring him in. She man handled him and wasnt gentle at all. When she brought our cat he was gasping for air and blood was coming out of his mouth, he was suffering and in distress when we had asked multiple times if he was comfortable because we didnt want him to suffer. I now didnt have a choice at all, he needed to be put down. He was blue and struggling to breathe and because they had made us wait hours he had laid back there alone and suffered while we had been told he was doing much better. I started asking simple questions about our options with putting him down, what their procedure was, what they used, etc. nothing crazy, just simple questions. Erika huffs and says youre being disrespectful and I feel like youre questioning my ability to do my job and I wont take it. At this point Im FLOORED, not only have you killed my cat but now you have the AUDACITY to tell me that Im being disrespectful. I quickly informed her that I wasnt being disrespectful, I just wanted answers before I put my suffering cat down. She snatched my poor cat up and took him away to be put back on oxygen before the final procedure. The Dr came in to euthanize him and let us have a minute with him before they took him to get him ready for us to take home. I should have known better. Theres an issue when without any tests etc, they tell you to put your pet down for something thats treatable, lie to you, treat your animal poorly, and have uncaring rude techs. DONT COME HERE EVER!

I would not take my pet here again ever. I am giving them one star simply because they were quick with getting our dog to the back to be monitored for any seizure activity. We were then left to wait in the waiting room for over an hour. When I asked how long it would be until my dog would be seen by the Dr. they said not much longer. We were then taken into a room where we repeated the same information to yet another person, when asked when we would see the Dr she stated that they are on shift change so it would be awhile. Hello...we are at an EMERGENCY VET HOSPITAL...you have my dog and are not telling me anything including the vitals that they supposedly took. There is no comfort or compassion regarding the owners that have brought in their family member who is obviously having severe enough issues to take them to the EMERGENCY VET...tell them something. So after another twenty plus minutes of waiting the Dr. comes in and says that the dog is up and moving and seems fine, that i can either take him home and watch him or for 700+$ they would keep him overnight. I opted to take him. The entire time they had my dog in a cage in the back, they did not ask me any questions about his behavior or why I thought he had suffered from a seizure. They only knew that he was alive and moving so that must surely mean he is fine. ....We took our dog down the road to another Emergency Vet where he was evaluated, his pupils were fixed and dilated, he had no response to his name, he was completely oblivious to people or even his family and he had no control over his bladder. We ultimately made the painful decision to put him to sleep to stop the suffering that he was in. Skip this poor excuse for a vet and go to the compassionate people at Animal Emergency Center

Our senior dog had a seizure and couldnt walk. At 4:30 in the morning, we were handed a clip board full of paperwork by a receptionist that seemed bothered by our arrival. We asked to speak to the vet, but we were told we could not speak to the vet or stay with our dog -- that she needed to take her back there alone and she would relay the information to the vet. The whole thing made us feel uncomfortable, to just sign away a bunch of authorizations without even getting to talk to the vet -- we were crying, our dog was petrified, and she had absolutely zero compassion. We knew it wasnt looking good for our dog, but we certainly didnt want her last moments on earth to be full of pokes, and prods, and fear -- without us. We asked the receptionist to try to be a little kinder about the whole situation -- we were just trying to understand what was going to happen, and she ROLLED HER EYES and walked back into the treatment area. My husband knocked on the door asking for our dog back -- that wed take her elsewhere... So she brought her out to us, and without a word turned back around and went to the treatment room. We went up the road to Animal Emergency Center, where we were warmly welcomed by the vet herself -- one sheet of patient info was completed -- and she talked us through the whole thing with kindness and compassion. She even went to find a snuggly blanket for the floor when we realized that our dog wouldnt be coming home again. I recommend talking to your staff about how kindness, in a tragic or emergency situation, can go A LONG way.
