On the above date, I paid a visit to Dr. Payne McGregor’s office for a follow up because of residual pain after a clear result pap smear that she had performed in October 2013. The concern that I expressed to Dr. Payne and her assistant from my symptoms following the pap smear was that of a yeast infection. Upon a brief examination Dr. Payne looked at me and said that she did not think I had a yeast infection. Dr. Payne and her assistant performed then several tests on me of which I was not informed. They never disclosed that they were going to be doing STI screening otherwise I would have told them it was not necessary since I am a married woman. When I left the office, I had no idea what tests they had ordered. MY INFORMED CONSENT WAS NOT GIVEN. I left without a diagnosis however, I still had symptoms. I self treated with Monistat and my symptoms disappeared. Therefore, the Doctor and her assistant misdiagnosed me. Following this visit, I received a bill for the services related to that visit, with the amount due from me of $286.00. I was shocked because this amount was after my insurance company had already paid $210.00, making a grand total of $496.00 for tests that I was never made aware of or gave consent to be performed. I received the bill and called the office of Dr.Payne McGregor immediately for an explanation. I left multiple voicemails and was unable to reach anyone in the billing department nor did anyone from that department try to reach me. When I finally got through to Shawn in the billing department, I had already been sent to collections. After many unfulfilled promises that Shawn would speak to the doctor and call me back, my husband called to speak with him for a sixth time. Shawn’s response during one of the many conversations with my husband, regarding my bill, was “maybe there is something your wife is not telling you.” Implying that I requested STI screening. I am being harassed and forced to pay for something that was never requested by me. I left with pain and no medical attention or diagnosis. Your bill for $286.00 is blatantly unprofessional and uncalled for, including your staff.

The doctor is great, if you can get past the poor customer service at the reception desk. First of all, good luck even getting a hold of someone at the office- 99% of the time no one ever picks up, the voicemail box is full, if you happen to leave a voicemail, it goes into some black hole, the office hours are complete bonkers (9a-4p BS. I went down there on a weekday at 11am and the office was LOCKED). The male receptionist, Sean, is quite blunt, downright rude, and doesnt seem to know all the details of whats going on (they were moving offices, then they werent, then they were again). My test results were not posted on the online portal even though it had been over 3 weeks and it was supposed to take 3-4 business days. Sean has RUDELY hung up on my while I was still talking because he did not like that I was trying to follow up and ask about the status of my lab test. I had to ask 3 times for a prescription refill, and the front desk uploaded incomplete notes about my visit on the portal, including filling out info incorrectly (my weight, for example). Additionally, I have increasingly waited longer and longer for every appointment, the last one being an hours wait. When I went for my 2pm appointment and told Sean, he said he can fit me in at 3:30. I mean, WHY? He didnt even bother to check the schedule despite my having said I was there for an appointment! And for the cherry on top, I recently received an email from Sean charging me for a fee that the office had clearly accepted $0 in payment from the insurance company. Despite my trying to explain this, Sean rudely kept pushing back asking me to pay. I escalated the issue to my provider. I really liked Dr. Payne, but the office staff makes it impossible to keep going back. I am switching doctors. My gynecological concerns do not need the added stress of navigating the worst medical office staff I have ever met.

Showed up early to fill out paperwork - despite that, was kept waiting past my appointment time for AN HOUR with no communication. For a first-time appointment, this sets a bad precedent. While waiting is frustrating, I can understand that there are extenuating circumstances that may cause a medical practitioner to take longer. Im not much for waiting an hour with poor communication as to why, so I decided to find another gynecologist. The reasons above dont warrant a one-star review; maybe a three-star, with a comment on the wait. Heres the real reason: when I informed the front desk person, Sean, that Id rather find another practitioner and asked for my information back, I got a wholly unprofessional, passive-aggressive comment of, "You know, if it was you back there, Dr. Payne would make sure to spend as much time as needed with YOU. You need to be more patient." No apologies for the wait, no professional, "I understand, and we wish you well..." Just an unnecessary, purposefully sassy comment from someone who is supposed to be a medical professional. Sean continued his lecture until I stated that I did not need the speech, just my documents, then wished him a good day when he complied. Since I never saw the doctor, I cannot speak to her competence. In fact, the impression that I got is that shes a great doctor. However, the staff, which are a big part of the overall experience, were unprofessional, and the wait was more than the average. I would not recommend this practice.

Dr. Payne is great! She delivered my first son via an emergency C-section, 6 years ago. She is incredibly detailed so her schedule may run a little behind but trust me she is well worth it.
