Cliff notes- Dr. Dibbern is about as unprofessional and arrogant as humanly possible. Overcharges, makes you feel like a bad pet owner pushes Hills Science Diet on you and gives your animal medication it does not need. Long version- I had an appointment yesterday to take my year and a half Rottweiler in for a routine check up. I adopted him from a friend about 8 months ago, right after he had been fully vetted- rabies, heart worm test and medication, front line- the whole nine. When I got to the office I had to wait a little, then I was taken back by a nice assistant. She was gentle and even gave my dog a treat. Then... she started asking me what brand of food I fed him, how often he ate, what brand of treats I fed him ect. She told me that they had to do a blood test for lyme disease and for heart worms before they would give me heart worm medication even though I had told them that he had not missed a dose.- ok fine I can deal with that she took blood from the dog and left the room. A few minutes later she comes back in asking specifically what brand of treats I was feeding him, I pulled it up on my phone for her, she left the room again. She opened the door and called me in to another room where I met the Vet, Dr. Dibbern. For 45 minutes he belittled me on my choice of dog food (Pedigree Large Breed) my choice of trests (Tractor Supply 4Health Joint Treats) - told me my dog was overweight (hes not) gave me a 15 minute monologue about how wonderful he is because Hills Science Diet chose him to help them develop their food products, after I told him twice I dont need to know every single detail about the food. Fished for information about what I did for a living and how much I made. Meanwhile his poor vet assistants were standing there waiting for him to shut up so they could give shots. He managed to get my dog to growl at him, which has NEVER happened. He vaccinated my dog for almost everything imaginable, including bordatella after I told him that he will never be going to a kennel. Gave the dog a flu shot after convincing me that if he got the flu he would die. Sold me an $80 27 lb bag of diet dog food and basically made me feel like the worst dog owner on the face of the planet. I am not a bad dog owner, my dog is part of the family, sleeps in bed and is spoiled rotten. This guy might know what he is talking about when it comes to vet medicine, but he is absolutely one of the most arrogant, abrasive, sarcastic, rude people I have ever met. I feel bad for his vet assistants and any future clients he may have. If you are smart enough to read this before going there cancel your appointment. Pick anywhere else. This guy is a complete jerk.

Approximately a year ago, I took my daughters 1 year old pup to countryside. I had used countryside for my cats vaccinations. I took the dog in because I came home to find that he had vomited a yellowish foam while I was at work. He was weak and wouldnt eat or take water. I assumed something didnt agree with him, so I gave it another day. The next day, the same thing, vomit and he would not take food or water. I took him to countryside where I was told he had pancreatitis, even though his weight was normal, his diet, according to the vet was too high in fat thus contributing to the pancreatitis. I was told that he was seriously dehydrated, and still was not taking food. The vet would have to keep him until inflammation subsided and he began to take food and water as normal. After two nights, I decided to stop by countryside for a visit. I was lectured on the type of food I was feeding the dog and was told I should feed him science diet - light. Again - even though he wasnt over weight, I should still cut back his food intake. I was allowed to enter the kennel area where my dog was housed. He scratched at the cage, and was super excited to see me. The vet informed me that when the dog acted as excited to see him or his staff for feedings as he did to see me, then they would release him to come home. I paid for 4 nights of boarding, upwards of $400+ dollars. The dog was finally home for the weekend. He didnt care much for the light food, but managed to eat a bit here and there. I returned to work on Monday only to come home to another mess of frothy yellow foam vomit. I called countryside and was told to bring the dog back they would have to run additional test. I thought there is no way I can continue to pay the boarding fees and have him treated when the diagnosis doesnt make sense. After informing my daughter of the situation, she went to countryside to collect the dog and took him to Hillside veterinary hospital. After an hour or two at Hillside, the vet force fed my dog to allow him to deliver stool samples and it was determined that he had worms. Hillside kept him overnight for observation and to begin medication for the worms. I picked him up the next day and hes been fine ever since. Countryside not only misdiagnosed the dog which cost me kudos, spoke very arrogantly to me about what I was feeding my dog, they had me worried that there might not be anything that they could do to help. I feared having to have him put down. I am thankful for Hillside.

This summer, we said goodbye to a very dear companion and wed like to honor his memory by sharing his story. Shadow first came to Countryside in 2005. Over the years he proved to be a fighter as we provided his care through hypothyroidism, mast cell tumors, hip dysplasia, and leukemia. Throughout it all Shadow was a very sweet boy (even if the clinic wasnt his favorite place to be!) and we loved seeing him come through the door. Sadly, Shadow lost his battle against leukemia this past July. He is greatly missed by all who knew him. From his owners: "We were Shadows fourth home when we adopted him at the age of two. He was probably an adorable puppy but may have been separated from his litter too early. While he always loved women, he was not adept socially with other dogs or people. We did not know at the time that he could not tolerate being kenneled, due to early traumatic experience. In truth, he needed a family who would not give up on him despite his issues, which included a LOT of barking. It took many years for him to relax around men, but eventually he was very happy. Im so glad that we did not question our early commitment to him. It was all worth it, and we sure miss having him around. Thank you for featuring our sweet boy!" "Good-hearted and loyal, Shadow wanted nothing more in life than to be with us. He was Alisons constant companion and fiercely protective of her. I have absolutely no doubt he would have given all to keep her from any harm. And he was a fighter...survivor of abuse before he came into our lives, a survivor of cancer that should have taken him years ago, and a survivor beyond all expectations fighting to the end against leukemia. We will miss him dearly but know he is in a better place, free from pain and struggle. Thank you for all the love and joy you gave to us Shadow. Peace." Special thanks to Alison Gell Jacobs and Rollie Jacobs for allowing us to feature Shadow.
