I dont even want to give this clinic one star, but it wont let me post anything without it. Since day one coming to this clinic they have been nothing but terrible. I have requested MY DOGS medical records over 4 times in the course of 2 months. The 1st time they said they sent them, but funny I never received them. The 2nd time I called they emailed them to me; but wait, it wasnt all the docs that I requested. The 3rd time I had to call back saying that I need all my dogs records not just some. The 4th time, I called asking if they sent them, because I havent received them yet, and they said no they would send them out. The 5th time I called, the owner got on the phone and stated that it takes to much time to print, scan, email or mail the documents out. Really? what does he pay a receptionist for? Its there job, and WE AS OWNERS have the right to OUR ANIMALS medical reports and any information on them. It takes a person what, maybe 15-20 of time to print a file, scan, then email or mail, either one. I need my animals medical records, no need to be a Douche about it, get it done, Its Your job!!! Another incident I called about the microchip process and what a person should do if they have a lost animal, the receptionist starting answering my questions, but after answering a few questions, she stated she was busy and cant answer anymore questions. I told her that I have important questions that need to be answered, she said she was busy and hung up, no chance to schedule an apt, or said she would call me back, just hung up. I called back that minute and another receptionist picked up and answered my remaining questions. Another time, I had to call about the microchip scan that they did. They stated that they never found the microchip. I asked how they scanned for the microchip, receptionist stated they only scan only the neck and back of the dog, and they xray the rest. Talking to my previous veterinarian clinic, to retrieve my pets chip number, they told me that vets have the ability to scan the chest and sides of the dog. There is no need to have an x-ray done. Delavan Vet Clinic does this to over charge you as a customer. I did have previous x-rays done on my animal and asked Delavan if they could look at those x-rays, they said they cant use them. Um, can we say SCAM!!! In my eyes this veterinarian clinic is unhelpful, incompetent, poorly managed, and have insincere people working here; even the owners are rude and disrespectful. I would never recommend this vet clinic to anyone. The whole reason why I was requesting my dogs records in the first place was so I can take her to another vet, and am still waiting for those documents after 2 months. Terrible service with all my experiences here, but its your choice. Dont say I didnt warn you.

Almost a year ago Dr. Hartwig saved our 13-year Labrador’s life! For the prior 18 mos I’d repeatedly complained to our vet that something was wrong with our dog Mack. And I was repeatedly lectured about “old dog” issues. I also saw 2 more veterinarians in Illinois and was basically told the same thing. When I was fortunate enough to be referred to Dr. Christine (4th Vet) I again explained the symptoms I’d observed, she was quite different. She listened carefully, she asked questions. And then she repeated back to me the information to make certain she understood the progression of Mack’s ill health. After palpating and x-raying him she told us he had a very dangerous tumor that was inching quite near to his heart and he needed surgery, like immediately! I still had the “old dog” lecture stuck in my head and foolishly asked, “Couldn’t the surgery kill him”? She showed us the x-ray and how close the mass was to his heart and said the tumor will kill him. Mack did have very strong vital signs and she felt the surgery would not be the life threatening issue. The tumor was benign! Our Mack is going to be 14 years old this Sept! He has never been in better health. Delavan Lakes Veterinary Clinic is an amazing place. Mack has the best care on earth. His health is carefully monitored even while we were away from WI this winter. I was able to call into DLVC and speak with Brenda at the desk and she would connect me to the appropriate person if I needed to discuss Mack’s medications or to either Dr. Christine or her assistant Jessica to ask about problems Mack was experiencing due to the climate change. They kept an eye on Mack even though we had a vet in the new city. This is an excellent practice. They are 100% invested and on top of what needs to happen in order to take the best possible care of one’s pet. I am so grateful to have found them. I recommend them to everyone!

We took both our dogs to this vet for some time. However, we left after they took extra x-rays during a routine neuter of our puppy and then charged us, without ever asking if that was acceptable. This was NOT a life threatening issue. They were aware we had saved up a budget for the surgery (laser, some x-rays of his hips, etc) and that they were not to do anything extra unless it was life-threatening. They took extra x-rays and did not inform us of the changes needed based on his size for medication costs. What should have been a $350 procedure was billed at $500. They then wanted us to pay the extra charges. We paid all but the extra x-ray costs. They tried to hold our records to get us to pay; our new vet informed us this is not legal in WI. This same vet refused to accept that our Weimaraner had a recessed vulva. We wanted to wait to spay until she was through her first heat to avoid future UTIs caused by the recessed vulva. The vet insisted we spay earlier so we did so. Later, another vet at the practice coded her as having a recessed vulva, so from now on NO UTI will be covered by our pet insurance. Long and short, they were not particularly professional when it came to things like billing and veterinary advice. The techs are lovely and were 80% of the time friendly and pleasant. We also had a tech accuse our dog of biting her; investigation into this showed that to be untrue. We wouldnt recommend them. Prices are middling. Service is fair to poor. Just not trustworthy. Facility is beautiful, but that doesnt make up for the other issues.

We have used DLVC for over 30 years even with the previous vets who had their service in that building. My husband and I cant say enough about the attention to details Dr. Geiger and now Dr. Hartwig have given our dogs and cats over the year, Right now we have a cat who requires special medicine for an enlarged heart and we truly feel that this regimen of pills and enzyme treatment has given our cat many extra years of life and enjoyment for us all with each other. We have used their recommended cat food and dry food and of course, Greenies for treats. We believe this finer quality food has also given our cat a better quality life. The staff is caring and attentive. Whenever there are tests to be run we are told why and have been given a choice as to whether we feel we can afford it and whether we feel the test is necessary. Caring for any animal means commitment, just as raising children. If we can afford it, we feel the expertise of Dr. Hartwig is valuable and important for each of our animals. Thats why we go to a vet in the first place, isnt it?
