I adopted a 12-year old senior cat from SPCA and took him to see Dr. Bumgardner the next day. I could tell from the moment that Dr. Bumgardner walked in the room that he was kind and patient--he had no air of pretension. He greeted me and then greeted my cat. Rather than jump right into an examination he spoke warmly to my cat and petted him. I could tell from the smile on Dr. Bumgardners face that he had a genuine love for animals. I also appreciated that Dr. Bumgardner had a more conservative approach to medical treatment. Because my cat had lab tests 3 months prior, Dr. B said it was unnecessary to subject him to the needle-stick again. He also spent some time talking to me about my cats diet, countering "fads" with established facts (I had been thinking about a raw food diet but also had a lot of questions about "grain free" verses food with grains, etc.). A few months ago I thought my cat had ear mites, so I took him to see Dr. B. After examining both of his ears, Dr. B. told me that my cat did not have ear mites, but an allergy--possibly environmental, possibly food-borne. He prescribed both an ear cleanser and an Rx ointment to treat the allergy, and he said if it didnt work we might need to consider an Rx diet (fortunately the ointment worked). When I went to check-out at the front desk they were out of the ear cleanser that he wanted me to buy, but the receptionist asked the doctor if she should sell me a new ear cleanser that had arrived earlier that week. Dr. B told me, "Well Sam, Ive not yet reviewed this new cleanser as carefully as Id like, so why dont you go ahead and buy the Epi-Optic cleanser from amazon instead. If I decide I like this other one better Ill let you know." I was really struck by the fact that hed rather I buy a product that he trusted from another vendor then buy a product he had not yet researched. Hes clearly more interested in your pets well being than making a few extra bucks. I eventually ran out of the Rx ointment and my cats ears began to act up again. I called and scheduled a new appointment with Dr. B. A few hours later I received a call from his receptionist. Dr. B had reviewed my cats chart, and because his symptoms were the same as last time, he said that he could just re-prescribe the Rx, but to let him know immediately if his symptoms didnt clear-up. Again, Dr. B could have had me bring my cat in, which would have cost me a co-pay plus the Rx, but Dr. B had a sensible understanding that didnt require me to subject my cat to a vet visit unnecessarily (which is good, because my cat becomes extremely anxious when she has to leave my apartment). The only "negative" thing I can say is that the first thing the vet techs do is weigh my cat when he arrives for an appointment. To weight him I have to take him out of his carrier and place him on a scale (a feat!), and getting him back into the carrier can be challenging. On my first visit my cat ran off and hid under a shelf, and it took some work to coax him out. So on my second visit I suggested that they weight my cat *in* his carrier, and then when he was out of his carrier for Dr. B they weighed the carrier by itself and subtracted that number from the first number. I now do this every time and it works like a charm. I give Dr. B five stars and would recommend him to anyone.

We brought our 5 year old cat to the Dewitt Animal Hospital after he began acting oddly, and stopped eating or drinking. He was in very poor condition, and his temperature was below normal. The DeWitt staff was unprofessional, and before they would talk to me about anything that was wrong, they were trying to get me to sign agreements to pay upwards of $1200.00 just to keep him there until morning, (which didnt include running any tests, or without having ANY idea what was wrong with him!). They were callus, uncaring, and once my beloved cat was in their hands, it seemed like he was held him for ransom-- a "if you dont sign off on the $1200, your cat will die," approach. Ultimately, we refused to sign, had them put a saline IV in him to hydrate him, and brought him home instead of leaving him with them. We brought him to another vet in the morning, and in the waiting room, TWO other customers told similar horror stories about the "ransom" approach, and the cold, uncaring attitude of the staff and doctors. I will NEVER bring my animals there, for any reason, ever again. Even in an emergency, Ill drive the extra 10 minutes to Baldwinsville to the other 24 hour clinic. If you love your animal, steer clear of DeWitt!!

I know one of these postings said that this vet clinic was terrible, but I wonder if they were confusing the DeWitt Vet Medicial Center with the Dewitt Animal Hospital. The Animal Hospital is right around the corner and I had a horrible experience with them. They treated my cat terribly and were excessively rough with him when he was sick. The Medical Center was fantastic though. They are very kind to my pets. I was even in the waiting room when there was an emergency call for a dog that was hit by the car. The vet techs ran outside to the persons car with a stretcher to help them get the dog inside. Ive always been impressed with the DeWitt Medical Center. Just make sure that you are calling the DeWitt Veterinary Medical Center which is located on Erie Blvd... not the DeWitt Animal Hospital which is located just off of Erie.

I tried 2 other area vets, and always felt pressured to purchase meds and services that didnt always seem necessary, or were available much cheaper elsewhere. More than anything I felt uncomfortable with the "hard sell" approach I was experiencing at other vets. Thankfully, we moved and found the DeWitt Veterinary Medical Center nearby on Erie Blvd. Dr. B isnt managing a large practice focused on making money. Rather, he does what is necessary without charging excessively. His small staff is wonderful as well, and Ive never left without feeling great about the care my pets received or the charge for the service. I cant recommend the DeWitt Veterinary Medical Center highly enough. If you love your pets and want the best for them without the pressure to pay a premium, look no further.

I brought in my sons two cats today for their first appointment / neutering. The staff were friendly and very good with the animals. Dr Bumgardner was great. He did a physical exam of each cat and told me I could pick them up in about an hour. I have had dogs all my life and have taken them to another - local - well known clinic. While the care all my animals received was always great......the fees were going through the roof. AND they were always trying to push another vaccine or treatment. I got none of that at the DVMC. Just great care, service...with no sticker shock! I will be bringing in my dog next. They have won over a new customer.

I have 2 dogs and 3 cats that see Dr. Bumgardner and his staff. I always have a great experience when i bring in my pets. They are knowledgeable and kind. I am never rushed out, the Dr. takes his time and explains everything he is doing during the exam. All of my animals are handled with kindness and respect by all the staff. The prices are great and that is a plus, however the level of care is what really stands out to me. I have and I do recommend Dewitt Veterinary Medical Center. I do believe the one star rating was meant for Veterinary Medical Center on Bridge street which is the emergency vet office.
