I used to take my pets there. Most of the time they would treat my pets in the waiting room. There was a time when they took my Yorkie in the back, I was told that I could not go back with her, and my poor dog limped for 3 days after that visit. I can only assume that they were very rough with her and twisted her leg somehow. When I called them about it, they shrugged it off and said Yorkie are prone to leg and knee issues. I guess at the time I was gullible because I accepted that answer. The point of that visit was to have blood work done to determine if my 12 year old Yorkie would withstand anesthesia to have her teeth cleaned. I was charged $85.00 just for the blood work and told that my dog was grossly over weight and to with hold food from her and only feed her once a day. A few days later, I was told that her blood work looked great and she went in and had her teeth cleaned. This all sounds ok, Right? WRONG, two months after her so called blood work and teeth cleaning, my dog was not acting right. It was a Sunday and she seemed uncomfortable sitting, standing or laying down. We took her to an emergency vet in West Chester and found out that she had a tumor the size of cantaloupe in her Belly! She was a very small Yorkie weighing 9 pounds. Remember the vet at Critter Care told me that she was grossly overweight and to only feed her once a day, the emergency vets however me the x-rays of my dog and my poor girl was actually emaciated! Her little fat belly was all Tumor! She was in shock by this time and had to be put down. The emergency vet said that that tumor had been growin a longtime and that the blood work that Critter care did would have shown a problem with her blood Counts! The bottom line is...they never did the blood work, but charged me for it anyway, or they did the blood work and ignored the results. Either way, they should have caught this months earlier through the blood work, and maybe something good could have been done to save her or at the very least, made her comfortable. It haunts me when I think of her begging me for a treat or snack or more food and me telling her no, because of the bad advice from Criteria care. This poor dog was starving to death because of the tumor. Had I known I would have given her steak every day and anything that she wanted. But instead my poor dogs last few months were me starving her to death. Shame on Critter care for not paying Attention! People/I trusted you to take care of my pets through your knowledge. You failed to pay attention to important Details! Had you paid attention, my girl may not have had to suffer like she did. I would never take a pet there again. The smell of the place should have been my warning sign.

I dont believe any of the good reviews on here. The good reviews got to be Critter Care staff or people who are delusional about what quality customer service is, especially in reference to their fur children. There has only been one other time in my whole life where I have been treated so poorly. Dr. Portugal comes across as a pathological narcissist who is skilled at gaslighting people. Her attempt to gaslight me failed misrebly though. I wasnt having it! This place does everything from mistreat animals and us human customers, to try to hard sell you products you dont need and have made clear you dont need. They, especially Dr. Portugal, are snotty, rude, unprofessional, aggressive, difficult, uncooperative, dismissive, and mean spirited. Dr. Portugal will TRY to invalidate you all while justifying herself. She will play the role of "hero", "martyr" and then "victim" if you are rightfully critical of her! NARCI personality traits! Dr. Portugal will then turn around and accuse you of everything I just wrote. Thats called projection, Lori. If you do decide to go there, tread lightly! Do not even consider doing a good deed because they will call the police on you for it. Please be alert of additional mystery charges on your bill and make sure your car isnt towed off the lot. I cant believe Critter Care is still in business. Unbelievable.

I have taken my pet to this Vet over the last few years. I was happy with the service up until last fall. If anyone would ask, I would not recommend this Vet. The last few visits have taken a positive experience to the worst ever. In fact, now my pet will not tolerate any vet for the last visit was an impression hard to forget. As I sat in the waiting room, I witnessed every pet owner being told at least one tooth had to be removed. When it was my turn, I was told a tooth was infected, given meds and had to come back. After debating whether to return, I opted to do so, but soon regretted the decision. My pet was taken behind a closed door, from the waiting room, pinned down by 3 people on the floor, one man was standing in front of the door, shielding my view of the glass in the door. I could hear the scuffle, heard the pet in fear, but they would not allow me to rescue my pet. After several minutes, my pet arrived thru the door, scared to death. The Vet comes out acting like nothing happened and the tooth had to be removed. The horror look on my face was read by the Vet, knowing a return trip will not be happening. To sum up my last years experiences - over priced services, consumed with money and not concerned with pets, and most important to me - honesty is no longer a part of that service provider.

We were looking for a new vet and my mom suggested Critter Care. I took our new rescue in for an overall appointment and could not have been more pleased. Dr. Portugal took so much time with Buddy and worked with him on some of his aggressive behaviors. She was very patient with him and very kind while working with me and showing what not to do and what to do. She took her time looking him over and never made me feel like I HAD to do any of the tests suggested or tooth extraction. I never felt guilted in to doing anything. The staff was very kind when working with Buddy the day of his surgery for his tooth extraction. They calmed my nerves and made sure to contact me throughout the day. Dr. Portugal texted me photos as they were doing the surgery to keep me up to date which was great. The online account system they use to track your pets history, upcoming appointments, vaccinations needed, etc...is EXCELLENT. And there prices are more than reasonable. I would highly recommend them.

I have taken some of my dogs in the past to Critter Care and always was very pleased. I moved a little further away and began taking my dogs to a vet that was closer to my home. Last weekend, my bulldog awoke with hives all over and around her face. I called my usual vet, and even tried contacting her by the emergency number she provided. After waiting 15 minutes for a return call, I called Critter Care. The receptionist was polite, friendly and understanding. I was lucky enough to get an appointment. Dr. Portugal was just as caring and genuine as I had remembered her from years before. She treated Venus with just as much love and affection as she would with her own dog. She treats ALL of her patients with the same love and excellent care. She is kind, understanding, knowledgeable and understands the animals and their owners. I will bringing my dogs back to her as they deserve the best care possible, and Dr. Portugal and all of her staff can do just that.
