Horrible staff. I got a rescue puppy from a Friends Of Freddy in Selden. They offered a free check up and first round of shots at this vet so I took her here even though it was a little far and I have a vet for my other dog. I called to make an appointment and wanted one quickly since she had a some bloat which is normal for a puppy who almost always have some kind of worms. When seeing the vet he barely made eye contact and after glancing over the puppy for maybe 20 seconds he went on to trying to sell me all different things from pet insurance to dog food. He called my dog "he" even after the check up and she is a female. So I would bet he paid no attention during the check up. They did not give anything for the bloat and did not seem to care when I said she had a little red in her urine. A few days later the red in her urine got a little worse so I called them back. They again did not seem to care and said if I wanted to take a urine sample they would look at it when they could. At this point I called my own vet who when I said she had a small bloat and red in urine told me to come in the next day. They gave her antibiotics for a UTI and a shot for basic puppy worms. A few days on the antibiotics the urine was filled with blood and she had to go back to my vet. Turned out she had a bladder stone from the UTI and worms. With this knowledge I called back Animal Wellness Center. The puppy had a health guarantee from the shelter and costs were to be covered by Animal Wellness Center. When I spoke to AWC they said they would not honor the guarantee and I would have to fit the bill. I called back the shelter and they were very upset with AWC and then called them. AWC called me back and told me it would be an expensive surgery and she would most likely have to be on special food and meds for the rest of her life. Followed up by telling me I should put the dog down. A vet telling people to put a 3 month old puppy down that after the surgery would have a great life just having to eat special food. I hung up on AWC and spoke to my vet again. The surgery was just 800 which included an overnight stay, meds and her being fixed. She is now 6 months old perfectly healthy and after further tests crystal free to here she does not need meds or check ups every couple months. One urine test a year with her normal shots. So AWC wanted to kill a perfectly healthy and great puppy. Dont bring your pet here. Island Rescue saved my puppy, the staff at both locations knows her by name cause everyone took an interested and was upset about such a young puppy having these health problems.

I have been taking my dogs here for ten years, and think Dr. Miller is a very smart veterinarian, however his office has changed and not for the better. Ten years ago the office was quite unorganized and needed improvement to the business. Unfortunately, there was a fire that caused them to work out a trailer for quite a while. At this point, a new office manager was hired and the facility was rebuilt. Things improved and the office was becoming efficient with new technology, but it got to a point where the service was not the same. Dr. Miller now spent less time with each patient, we began to feel rushed through, he hired techs to do blood work etc and the pets are taken to a different room for tests. The Dr. literally saw each pet for a few minutes. The prices went up, and all payments were expected at the time of service and no consideration was given to any type of payment plan. Next another vet came to the office and more and more pets were rushed through. The office staff has become so busy, they can hardly answer questions, they try to sell you marked up flea and tick protection. Now the second vet has left and they have a new vet whom talks very arrogantly. I have now left this practice because my dog needed a tooth pulled and I found a place that did it for half the price and treated us nicely as well. The Animal Wellness Center has turned into a money robbing center and has lost the charm it had in the beginning. You can never get Dr. Miller on the phone, you must send an email, and he does respond but do not try to get any help from the office manager or the staff that are running around constantly with too much work.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANYONE BRING THEIR ANIMAL TOO THIS PLACE>>> ALL THEY WANT IS MONEY AND THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMALS AT ALL, I CAN PROMISE YOU THAT. I AM POSTING THIS ALL OVER THE PLACE SO EVERYONE CAN SEE IT BECAUSE I AM AN ANIMAL LOVER AS THEY ARE NOT!!! Long Story Short They wanted $1000 up front before even diagnosing my sick dog and would refund whatever needed to be refunded.. Thats UNNN-heard of! and that only says one thing about your kind of business and that is $$$.... they also have used weewee pads in the waiting room... and windex on the floor of the examination room. I have pictures of it all. If you do not believe me and believe the rest of these reviews which are probably setup by this vet than you will be putting your dog as well as your wallet at serious risk, but that you will find out shortly if you do not take my advice. I dont even want to give this place one star. so my rating is down here. NEGATIVE 5 * * * * *

The office is very disorganized. Dr. Pat is very nice, but was unprepared for my visit on multiple occasions. The doctor was often confused as to which vaccine my dog was supposed to receive at the time of visit, and I would have to remind them. At one visit, he gave him a vaccine he was not supposed to receive (at 4 months old), which resulted in my dog having 4 shots in one appointment. At my last visit, the technician took my dog out of the room and told us to wait at the front desk. We didnt know where they were taking him until we saw a charge for $75 on our bill. They took him for a snap test without telling us or asking, and my dog had already received one from another doctor earlier that month. They refunded us, but we were not happy. They also charged us for a fecal test but didnt ask us to present them with a stool sample. Weve had to correct them on too many occasions, and we will not be going back.

If I can put no stars on this place i would. This is seriously the worst vet ever , they over charge you on everything , a basic change on a splint is $135. My husky which was 7 weeks old had a broken arm when I got her. And they put a splint on her and for 3 weeks shes been in the splint even though she was out growing it. They would just keep re wrapping her splint withou ever checking it. I finally bought her to another vet and they checked her splint and found a really bad cut under the splint on thier careless mistake. Her skin had to be taken off and she just suffers more as if the broken arm wasnt enough already. Seriously when I tell you NOT to bring your pet here DONT bring your pet. Unless you want to be overcharged and have your pet treated unproperly. A simple x-ray here costs $140. At our new vet its only $70.
