I am a 67 year old Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. I usually go to the VA Hospital for my medical needs. In Sept, I ate something that poisoned my system. I had no clue as to what I ate that was bad. I stumbled to my neighbors house and collapsed on the ground. I called the VA in Phoenix, AZ. On a Saturday, they said, If Im having a serious or life threatening condition go the the nearest ER and be seen by a Doctor there. The neighbor called the ambulance and they took me to Banner Goldfeild Hospital. By the way the crooks at the ambulance service charged me $1200 for a five block trip. When, I got to Banner they gave me Morphine for the debilitating pain, dry heaving and being stuck in a fetal position from the pain. They said, just in case we want to keep you for the night, because we dont know what is wrong with you. The next day I felt good the pain was gone. I then talked to the billing department and said, that the VA would cover the entire bill as per their instructions. So, please send them the bill. They said OK. I thought I was done with it. A couple months later I get a bill from Medicare saying I owed the 20% of the $23 or $24 thousand dollar bill. I thought to my self. Oh! the VA must have turned it over to Medicare and their saying I have to make up the difference. $4,000 to $5,000 dollars. I live only on Social Security. So, I started to make payments to all but one doctor who charged me $1,095 for a 15 visit. I figured he could wait until I got the Radiologist, two other Doctors and Banner off my back. Then when I contacted the VA. I asked them why did you say you would take care of the bill. And now your not. They said, what bill, we never got anything from Banner. So, I called Banner and they said, because it takes the VA so long to pay. We decided to bill Medicare and then let Collection Agencies get the rest of the money from me. Actually trying to ruin my credit in the process. The VA says, because Banner never filed in a timely manner 30 days. They refuse too pay either. Now, because of a corrupt arrogant and uncompassionate hospital. Im stuck with the bills. My only option is too make these low class collection agencies wait longer, than what it would have taken to be paid by the VA. Dont ever think banner is looking out for your best interest. Greed is their founding fathers.

I had a bad experience with Banner Goldfield from the time I entered er until I requested to be moved to Banner Baywood. I was admitted to the hospital on 10/29 of last year and because they did not have the equipment needed for some of my testing, they had to transport me to other hospitals. I asked at the time who would be responsible and was told the hospital would take care of it since it was a service they could not provide at their site. The second time I was transported was 1.because I requested to go to Banner Baywood, and 2, my surgeon needed another test run. I was treated very poorly by the head nurse and was told the cost would be on me. I asked to be sent to Baywood because that is where my doctors worked out of. He ask what doctors that might be, I told him the first was my cardiologist and the second was my gastroenterologist. Even though I had gone into afib and I had asked why I did not get to talk to a cardiologist, the nurse told me they didnt think it was necessary for me to talk to one. I was transferred after the surgeon requested a test be done that could only be done at Dobson or Baywood, due to Goldfield not having the equipment necessary, and I stayed at Baywood for one more week.I thought everything was ok and 3 months later I received invoices from Rural Metro for the transport fees. After talking with my case worker through Goldfield, I was instructed to fax the invoices to her and they would be taken care of. I just received a call from Rural Metro and they have heard nothing from the hospital. This is almost a year later and they are threatening to turn these over to collection. I am very frustrated and in debt because of a hospital stay of more than 2 weeks and a surgery that also took place. Feeling frustrated and not knowing where or who to talk to at Goldfield to get help.

this is our experience with banner goldfield in apache junction, tues night early wed my wife started having pains in her back and legs and was sick at her stomach, a few of the pains come around to her chest, only a few..(heart attack symtoms in women).my daughter took her to banner goldfield and they run some test on her and sent her home..the pain had already kept her up for some 30 hrs...so thurs night early fri 4 or 5 am, off to banner/goldfield we go again, their close to us and my wife was in tears because of the pain..this time i took her... i was kinda shocked to see them set her into a chair and ask her a series of questions, then tell her that they didnt know what was causing her pain, but that he didnt think it was related to her other illiness, and that he couldnt give her any pain meds, but if she thought it would help he could give her shot (REALLY)and with that they discharged her, i brought her home and she layed down, by 6 pm she was throwing up non stop and her pain level was an 11 on a 1 to 10 scale...we then took her to a diff hospital, their words were...when did this start with you? she told them 2 days ago...and they freaked out..when they found out she had been sent home 2 times by banner/goldfield they just shook their heads...end result...she had had a heart attack, they took her pains seriously and she is still with us, and thats not always the case. all hospitals are made of brick and concrete...its the staff inside that makes the difference..i lost my father to a hospital that had some bad staff members in the midwest..a male nurse diagnosed his indegestion as a heart problem (never had a heart issue in his life) they give him nitro and discharged him...you heard that right, discharged him...he passed while my brother was taking him to the car to leave the hospital....

I received a bill for a 1 hour ER visit. Almost $2,000 that is after a reduced amount because of my PPO (?) I thought I had some ER coverage but no so this falls under my deductible. I believe this amount is exorbitant.I contacted billing and they are no help turns out if I did not have insurance I could get a negotiated rate under self pay. So I would be better without insurance ? I expected maybe 1,000 to 1,200 but I cannot afford this .. I called the doctors billing dept and they negotiated cost down by 40%. Banner will not help or reduce bill, so be prepared for $2,000 per hour (or more) I have called multiple times and multiple people asking for an itemized bill. I got 4 line items 1 being Level 4 Emergency room visit. COST $1,872.60. I was there for 1 hour what does this level 4 visit entail ??? I cannot get any answers , but I guess their hourly rate is around $2,000 to $3,000 per hour. I recommend everyone getting all your bills sent to you and your Insurance company when we start to question all this maybe the Health system will be put in check.
