How do I start.. I had to go there three times in order to register. First time I went there 30 minutes before it was about to close, and front office staff told me come back next week with the new patient form filled out. I came back next week, but the guy who could register wasnt there due to doctors appointment or something. They never apologized or anything. I came in for the third time and finally got myself registered. Gosh.. Did blood test last week then came back yesterday for an appointment with Dr. Patel. I went in for taking history and taking vital signs. This Caucasian nurse, I think her name was Christine.. She was very upset because I did not bring my medication bottle, which I have been taking for hair loss. I knew the exact dosage and the name, but she made it such a big deal out of it and scolded me multiple times. Anyways, then she asked my date of birth literally 5-6 times because it was entered incorrectly. She told me to bring my VA insurance ID card, and I did. Then she said it was not enough in order to prove that Im the right patient. It must have been one of the front office staff who entered my date of birth wrong. She said I will have to drive all the way to Long beach business office in order to get this corrected. WTH? Are you kidding me? She was being extremely rude the whole time I was there, treating me like a private during basic training or something. She got me so mad, and I almost walked out of the clinic while she was taking my vital signs. Its not like I have all the time in the world to drive all the way to Long beach. Your front office staff made such a stupid mistake, and I have to drive all the way over there? Im a very busy professional. I work as a physician assistant in primary care, and patient should not be treated this way, especially our veterans. Also Dr, Patel, he does not know how to do a proper abdominal physical exam. You are supposed to lay the patient down, inspect first, then palpate their abdomen. Not just feeling their belly sitting up before inspecting! Also, Hemoglobin A1C 5.7 is not normal. You are supposed to tell the patient to cut down on processed carbohydrate and exercise or something. What kind of medical school did you go to? Where did you do your residency? I could give this place negative million stars if I could. Why does VA clinics always treat me like crap? Is that because Im an Asian, or is it because I did not serve during the Korean war? I served during OIF/ OEF. I spent time in Iraq for 15 months. I was honorably discharged after serving as a medic for 4 years. Why do I have to be treated like this?

After being treated poorly by staff members over the past several months, I will be filing a formal complaint with the VAOIG. To summarize, this complaint will range between office staff incompetence, an inability or unwillingness to return phone calls in order to make appointments, not answering my incoming calls, resistance or hesitation to complete a scheduled lab visit made by appointment after many phone calls. Completely ignoring many voicemail messages I left which spanded over a period of time from January to February and again in June whereas I just gave up calling. Unecessary rudeness on the phone when staff members actually answered or returned my calls which caused more confusion and delay of medical treatment due to mix ups. Needless to say, I have no choice but to transfer to another clinic due to all these issues. I used to receive great care from this clinic by the Office and Nursing Staff. I have no complaint with my doctor since she does a great job once Im able to see her.

I will preface my review with, when I first started going to this clinic it was great as long as I could get an appointment to see my doctor. Then they changed my doctor without telling me and I spent 2 years not being ALLOWED to see a doctor. The excuses they gave to why I couldnt be seen were endless. Its always fun when the people the run the front desk give medical advice. Then I was stuck with Dr. Patel, who acts put out when ever I have seen him and has even lectured me about how important his time is during an ER follow up. Which leads me to the nurses. They all seem like nice people, but it never fails they will bring up hoe busy they always are. So busy they will leave the room to go get something and spend 10 minutes chatting in the hallway about dogs or their vacation plans.

Although this VA medical clinic is a bit far from where I live, Im very glad I came for my eye-exam; nice location, nice architecture, nice professional personnel, nice up-to-date facilities and technology to give best possible care.

Sometimes this place is good and sometimes this place is bad. The service i get when i am finally seen is great. The making of an appointment is horrible. They are understaffed. But its not there fault. Its the Va itself.

They never pick up the phone. California laws on medications are BS. The VA is garbage.
