I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Dean Filipowicz and surgical team at United. If I could give 10 stars, I would. On July 11, 2015,my dog Riley either jumped or fell out the window of my 3rd floor apartment while I was at work. Thank goodness my neighbors were home and able to get her rushed to North Peninsula emergency clinic. The bad news is, she had two severely fractured legs and the emergency hospital vet wasnt sure surgery would even be an option. Dr. Filipowicz reviewed the X-rays and agreed to do two separate surgeries on my beloved dog. From the moment my boyfriend and I walked into the clinic, we knew Riley was in the best of hands. The receptionists and vet techs were reassuring, empathetic, and sincere. Dr. Filipowicz spent nearly an hour with us, explaining exactly what he was planning to do, what he was concerned about and why, and what the journey to recovery would look like, if all went well. He was positive yet realistic at the same--it was incredibly reassuring to know I was working with a talented surgeon; the icing on the cake was how down-to-earth, funny, and friendly he was. The bedside manor at this place is absolutely incredible. In the two days after surgery, while Riley was still hospitalized, Dr. Filipowicz encouraged us to visit her as much as possible. Every time I visited, I was given an update on Rileys status. Never once did I feel rushed or like I was in the way. Dr Filipowicz and Helena, another member of the surgical team, both took the time to sit with Riley and I, give me updates, fill in family members on Rileys current health status, etc. every time we came to visit. When it came time to bring Riley home, we were given all the information and resources we needed to provide the best care possible for her. Was it cheap? Of course not! Were there a couple of expenses incurred that werent included in the original estimate? Yes, but if my dog hadnt received that blood transfusion, all the surgical repair wouldnt have mattered anyway. During our consultation, Dr. Filipowicz told us that its relatively common for dogs with bloodwork like Rileys to need a transfusion, and I said if it was necessary, please do it. The clinic was conscious of the expense and definitely didnt nickel-and-dime us. If you want to eliminate the possibility of exorbitant vet bills from your future, DONT GET A PET. No one wants to pay these bills, but I dont think many realize what it costs to run a veterinary practice. Id rather pay awesome people like the staff here to treat my pet than get mediocre (at best) care elsewhere. Bottom line: Do I feel that my dog received the best care possible? Yes, yes, YES!

Came in for an emergency visit because my cat was acting very strange. She became stiff, pooped on herself, started drooling and twitching. I had never seen her like that. The vet ran tests and continuously voiced that my cat was possibly under the influence of marijuana. I allowed a drug test which came back negative but was told the negative result could still be positive which I found ridiculous. He gave me no explanation of what could have happened to my cat only that she could be on drugs or have a neurological issue which would eventually require an MRI to verify. I began to research on my own on the internet and am now 99% positive that my cat had a seizure. Why she had a seizure I still dont know. This vet never once mentioned that my cat could have had a seizure. Its now been two days since our visit and they havent called to see how she was doing. I had to call them. They still havent sent her blood work or her other test results to our main vet clinic. They were a major disappointment in my history of vet visits. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of one is because the woman at the front desk was very sincere, compassionate and polite.

Unfortunately, last Saturday we awoke to a suddenly, very sick 12 year old lab. Our best friend was laboring to breathe and clearly in stress. We took her to United Emergency and learned she was basically terminal, with what closely resembled a heart aneurism. The staff and the doctor were so kind and thoughtful. He listed our choices and none were good. We made the most difficult choice to ease her suffering and put her down. Being there with her, petting her, saying our goodbyes and teary-eyed, they all made this comforting. Sage left us that morning but we are so grateful that the doctors and staff there were so amazingly kind and thoughtful. A few days later we received a card from the doctors and staff, acknowledging our pain and loss. Again, they are caring, wonderful people and we will not forget their kindness.

I am a happy customer. I have taken my animals to this group a few times over the years. Its never a good thing when you need to take your critter to the all night vet. Yes, they cost more than your usual vet, but this is a well equipped shop, ready for whatever comes in the door all night and on the weekends. If my dog needs a vet after hours, this is where I go. I give them top ratings. They called regularly to let me know how my dog was doing when he needed to stay. They have called back to see how my dog was doing after treatment. Great communication, on the money side and on the medical side. Everyone I have seen there has been great. I would rather I never needed these guys again, but I am so glad they are there when we need a vet in the middle of the night.

I have taken my beloved pets there in the past. I was always treated well and my animals were always treated very good! And with a recent experience where my dog had to be euthanized, my pet was treated with respect, tenderness and compassion. I had never been through this before and the attending vet was an "angel on earth". She helped me through the process of letting my beloved "Pepper" go. Thank you for taking the time to explain the whole process and helping my pet no longer suffer. The staff, and the technicians. You are awesome in my book!!

Dog was coughing and vomiting all day long off/on. Thought it was something he had ingested. When I brought him in, everyone from the attending nurse to the technician and finally the doctor had said "kennel cough" - a dog form of bronchitis. Dog was at "Spots" in San Jose for 7 days. Facility good, people good, prices not good. The whole serving was $335 = $105 for the after hour consultation, $100 for shots, and $130 or so for 2 boxes of pills. Michael Moore - need to make "Sicko" for animals as well.

When the other pet hospitals are closed, its good to know that theres an emergency facility thats open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But, if you bring your pet here, be prepared to wait a long time and pay an exorbitant sum. We waited over two hours and paid over $500 for a couple of stitches.

We highly recommend United Emergency Animal Clinic. End of life sucks whenever, wherever but without exception the staff was professional and compassionate helping us make the best of a very difficult time. The facility looks new and the fees seemed reasonable. They are there when you need them.
