SHORT VERSION: Do NOT board with them, they will leave your animal unattended and give them terrible care for the time being send them home sick and then expect you to pay them additional money to treat them after their facilities cause the sickness. LONG VERSION: I usually board my cat with another vet, but they were doing some remodeling and my cat (Peggy) goes to VCA Sunset for her normal veterinary needs. I dropped her off last Saturday morning and they were a little slow getting her seen and didnt offer to show me the space she would be in for the next 8 days but I let it go, thinking they were capable to take care of an animal. Sunday evening I walk in to pick her up around 5:15 and I notice their store sign still says open and there are FOUR other customers there. Really???? Whatever its fine. I just want to get my cat and go home. Well lucky for me I got to watch her get loaded into her crate, which means I got to watch where she was staying for 8 days, which was a small 3x3 metal crate 5.5-6 feet up in the air RIGHT NEXT TO ENTRANCE TO THE BACK. Which means not only was my cat unable to leave the cage she was staying in for 8 days she also had to live next to a loud door and a lot of commotion. At this point i know I wont be leaving a good review but I just want to get her home. So we get into the car and unzip her little bag and start petting her and notice she has a fever, there are a few reasons she could have a fever so I continue driving her home. We get home and I take her out and her hair is falling out like no one touched her for a week and her eyes are filled with eye sleepies that no one bothered to wipe away for 8 days. REALLY. Why did I pay you? My friends who stop in on her when Im away do a better job. On Monday I notice she is really sick. She keeps trying to cover up her eyes from the light, she is coughing, sneezing and purring super loud. I want to wait a day until I call them and ask them about it, thinking maybe it will go away. I finally get a hold of them TODAY and they said I would need to bring and pay for an exam visit if I wanted her to be treated. Im sorry why would I pay you to make my cat healthy when you are the ones that made my cat sick. These people are absolute crooks and I will do everything I can to let everyone I know not to come to this terrible vet/boarding facilities. These people have absolutely no idea how to care for animals are really should not be in the business. ALSO, their lobby alone is FILTHY. I would hate to see how disgusting the back is.

My Great Dane puppy has had a lot of vet care in the past four months: urgent Xrays after she "ate" my remote control, urgent care for adverse reaction to a wasp sting, urgent care for broken tooth. In addition, she has had two surgeries; 1. routine spaying, 2. repair of an improperly removed dewclaw (by a different vet), and treatment of dehydration after I screwed up her diet causing three days of severe diarrhea. Point is, I am absolutely qualified to comment on cost, quality of care, and staff attitudes in this place. In addition, they treated my fragile Dachshund for epilepsy for many years before I got the Great Dane. My experience: Cost - moderate to high. (You get what you pay for...I think their rates are fair for excellent quality. I wouldnt go to Black Angus and expect to pay MacDonalds prices.) Quality of medical care - excellent in 1) knowledge, 2) performance, and 3) explaining things to me so I understand and can make good decisions. Staff attitudes - All technicians, but one, have been very respectful and very good with my dog. The one straightened out with a word from me and has been fine since. Considering that EVERY business has motivated and disgruntled employees, I am pleased by the overall positive attitudes in this place. One last point - I read all the reviews below. A couple commented about not having a close relationship with one doctor. Thats nonsense. I asked for the work schedule of the vet who has been my dogs primary doctor and I can schedule an appointment with her without difficulty. Obviously, in an emergency, I might have to use a different vet, but if someone wants a "primary" doctor for their pet, it is easily accomplished.

I was a customer of Sunset Animal Medical Center for over 8 years, until today. I fired them. There wasnt just one thing they did wrong that drove me away, it was years of doing things wrong. In short it seems theyve gotten so big that theyve lost their ability to provide a consistent level of care or quality of service. Its as if your pets chart is the only thing keeping people on task. Ive also experienced long waits in their waiting room and some arrogant office staff. Today for example it was the vet techs rude tone that lit my fuse. So in my humble opinion the big problem plaguing that the place is the ever changing string of staff and vets. For example its a rare occurrence when I see the same vet two times in a row. I want a vet clinic that is personally involved in the day-to-day operations of their office, who remembers their patients, and follows-up on their treatment. I recently experienced this higher level of service and care when we took one of our dogs to an eye specialist for cataract surgery. That eye clinic is run so smoothly and every member of the staff seems personally committed to my dogs care. Unfortunately they just do eyes. So today were searching for a smaller more personal clinic. Goodbye Sunset!

Apparently, these people did a hostile takeover of my vet clinic (La Riviera Veterinary Clinic). After 30 years of taking my pets to them I am horrified at the fear and distrust these employees now have of their employer and customers. Its like theyre working under Trump and assuming theyll be fired any day. Googling La Riviera Vet Clinic yields them but doesnt have a phone number. Googling the website shows the Sunset Animal Med Center which I called, and put me on hold. After ten minutes, I gave up and went down to the La Riviera Clinic and told them about the phone number problem. At first they denied any problem, and then the elder employee braved enough to say that there were changes happening to the firm. I filled my prescription and then requested a physical copy of my dogs prescriptions so that I could fill them elsewhere. Much to my surprise, I find that I can fill these prescriptions at 30% cheaper than they are charging. I will be looking for a valid and honorable vet for my pets for any future needs, not a corporation of Trumpists!

Do not board your pet here!!! They are ruthless on adding charges if your pet stays more than 3 days, thats when the vet checks your pet(charge) then they call you while miles away from you pet with outlandish recommendations. They said my dog was not moving stopped eating and wouldnt drink. I show up teen min. Later they want to charge me to speak with the vet that gave the diagnosis. I asked to see the dog, she was walking drinking from a bowl and ate. I wish this was the first time it happened, this is a very time event. Please dont fall for the eye cream scam. Dogs cry when the owners leave, or they dont get enough attention at your location. I put in place a plan to stop them form doing this and to save my the scare phone call away from home. However didnt stop them from trying to money grab me. I beg you to stop your pet boarding you do not have the ability to do it in a honest and caring way. By the way that dog was 21 year old lasaapso. Thanks VCA for trashing another family vet into a money grab. Shame on you said every pet.
