So, I dont write reviews. I just dont. Im not that person. Go ahead... look ... ill wait. See, nothing. However, for Dr. Karabell, I felt compelled. This page needs more reviews. He isnt just the best dentist Ive ever had. Its not just his employ of the best hygienists Ive ever had either. Its not just the best office staff Ive ever had the pleasure of interacting with. Its PHYSICALLY the best dental office Ive ever set foot in. Honestly, who wouldnt want to stare at the beautiful ocean while you are having your teeth cleaned or having work done? Beat that everyone else ever. But seriously, Dr. Karabell is patient, kind, gentle and informative. I have dental issues for days, and he has never ONCE made me feel rushed out of the chair. He has never made me feel stupid for asking a stupid question. In fact, there have been times when I am told to come right down because there is a spot on my tongue thats bothering me. He inspected it, told me it looked like a burn, and didnt even charge me for a visit. What a sweetheart. Yes, Im a man who calls other men sweethearts. Its how rad he is! Even when I have had to have some larger work done, and been fearful, the fears have always proven unfounded. I have never felt a thing, and trust me, Ive felt stuff at other dentists/periodontists. My hygienist Veronica is amazing. She is always attentive to ongoing issues before I even have to bring them up. She never hesitates to call the Dr. when needed, and I just feel so looked after by her. My teeth always feel amazing after she is done with me, and I am delighted I have found a hygienist I have been able to stay with for 5+ years. Now dont even get me started on Kathy and Darci in the front office. I dont even know what to say. I genuinely love them. They have become a favorite of mine when Im there, if nothing more than to just have a chat. They work with me a ridiculous amount when it comes to payments, making the most out of my dental insurance, squeezing in appointments, and much more. I always look forward to seeing them, and getting their little reminder calls about appointments. The whole office has become like family, and I am so grateful to have found them. Mark my words, as long as this office is in business, I will never go anywhere else. One final note: Dr. Karabell and staff touch people beyond dentistry. I have a special needs employee at my job who was also a patient before he moved out of state. They would give him bus money, starbucks gift cards, and one time even gave me a bag of goodies for him. A bag that included his own sonicare toothbrush. All this is totally unnecessary behavior for a dental practice to engage in, but its important for me to note. They go above and beyond. Like I said, its truly a family, and you would be re-missed to not give them at LEAST one try. If you need a dentist, why not try a dentist that has views of the ocean, top of the line gentle care, a family atmosphere, and charitable staff? To pass on them would really be your loss.

I wonder how many people look forward to visiting their dentist. Dont get me wrong, who wants any dental procedure, but once you bite the bullet (figuratively that is, dont chip a tooth!) to get a cleaning or other work done, theres a reason I drive almost 30 miles from OC to Hermosa Beach (used to live there decades ago) to see Dr. Shafer. From himself to the assistants to hygenists to front office staff, without exception it is the most friendly medical providers office I"ve ever encountered, for all of those decades. It really is relaxing KNOWING youre in safe hands, folks knowing their stuff down pat but caring too, all led by such a professional as Dr. Shafer. Todays crown appointment? Could have done without the need (hear that teeth!?!?), but looked forward to the visit itself.

I have never had a better Dentist than Dr. John Shafer. First, Dr. Shafer is the kindest Dentist I ever had. Second, his dentistry is the best there is. He knows what hes doing and is extremely careful while working on your teeth. He has always fixed me up especially when i had pain. I trust him with all my dental needs. Dr. Shafer is very knowledgeable in dentistry and he does everything with 200% of his effort. Also, his staff is AMAZING. From the moment you walk in, you are welcomed with a greeting and smile. From the receptionist to the dental assistants - you will meet caring and friendly people. I would highly recommend Dr. Shafer and his entire staff to anyone looking for a GREAT Dentist.

Dr. Karabell has been my dentist for the last 5 years. He is very good and I have referred multiple people to him over time and all have been very happy. He is very personable and cares about his patients. He also has very friendly staff, including skilled dental hygienists, working at his office. As a bonus, the dentist chairs have a nice view!
