The vets and staff at Ocean Avenue Vet Hospital (OAVH) have been amazing on 2 unfortunate emergencies with my pekingese. The professionalism, willingness to work on pricing, and follow-up calls are the 3 main reasons why I will always return to the kind folks here. Also, they have their own paring lot - so convenient! The first time I went to OAVH, my dog was bit severely during a dog attack. We had no idea the extent of the bite nor how deep it was but in honesty it looked ok. However I wanted to bring him in anyways. Dr. Vara Guduri took a close examination and showed me the bites damage - I nearly passed out. They brought my poor pup in and immediately had to shave, clean, disinfect, and suture his entire right cheek. Dr. Guduri was extremely patient in giving careful explanations on what was going to happen and justification for each step. At the end of it all he was thorough in his explanation of post-operation care. The staff gave me follow-up phone calls every other day - I felt extremely well cared for especially given the fact I called them on several occasions inquiring for advice on some problematic scenarios. Fast forward 6 months, here we are back again with my poor pup. This time with a anal gland abscess. This happens time to time with my dog and usually clears on its own however this time you could tell it was bad. I took him in and Dr. Shikher Singla took excellent careful care of my dog. He informed me of everything that could potentially happen and gave me my options - he even worked with me on the price. Later, I get a phone call from the extremely kind technician and she let me know that since my dog was sedated she went in to clean his teeth and nails. They even found a rotting tooth and extracted it. These latter services were on the house! Amazing! The day following the treatment of the anal gland abscess was a nightmare, my dog had not eaten/excrete/medicated for 24 hours. I called it in right away after I got off work. Dr. Deepti Pal made room for an appointment right away for me. She tried some of the things I tried at home thinking she would have a shot, but we both knew right away we needed to look towards injecting my dogs medication. Seeing as how this would probably need to be the solution for next couple days, Dr. Pal worked out a great price for me to come in for my dogs daily injections (as opposed to his daily oral medication). Excellent, excellent team of vets and staff. Im going to come back here for everything.

Got a new puppy in May of 2013. The first few visits were for a check up and were alright. The staff is very pleasant to deal with however the doctors are always in the rush and are trying to sell something every time, things that my dog might even not need. In November 2013 we took our dog in for neutering and the removal of hernia. After 14 days we had to go back in for stitch removal. The doctor again tried to sell us medication for the dog. In December 2013 I noticed that my dogs hernia has gotten worse, and after inspecting it I have noticed that the doctor missed a stitch and it got infected. I called in and made an appoint right way. We can in the stitch was taken out but once again the doctor made me purchase antibiotics a 10 day course. Now it is January 2014 and a few days ago I was playing with my dog and noticed one more stitch sticking out, another one that the doctor forgot to remove. I can not be coming back every month to this clinic to remove stitches one by one. By now my dog is devastated of this place and I do not want to put him through this stress every month. Today hopefully will be my very last time coming here, and that is very unfortunate because the front desk people and all of the assistants are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. On January 11th I had my appointment at 3:30 pm to remove the last stitch that Max had that the doctor has missed. After removing Maxs last stitch the doctor did not apologize for missing it, but instead he told me that it should have fallen out on its own, which its already been 3 months and it still hasnt. Today is January 12th 2014 I have noticed one more stitch that Max still has that the doctor missed once again. I will be attaching a picture of it. This is extremely frustrating and unprofessional. I will go to a different clinic that will have knowledgeable doctors that will make sure that ALL the stitches are removed! PLEASE PLEASE DONT COME HERE TO SAVE YOURSELF SOME TROUBLE. FYI the doctor that was doing Maxs procedure is not even listed as a doctor on their website.

From the women at the front desk to the vet tech to the doctor, everyone at Ocean Ave was amazing to me, but more importantly, to my dog Prudence. We were running late for our first appointment, so I called and they easily pushed our appt back 30 min with no complaints. They checked us in and called our previous vet to get a history of her care. The vet tech was really thorough in going over Prudences overall health and making recommendations while not being pushy. She explained positives, negatives and cost of each option and then left it up to me to decide. The doctor was so sweet with Prudence, got down on the floor with her and gave her a lot of love to keep her comfortable. Prudence really warmed up to him, and went to the back with him for her treatment and shots without a fight. The cost was true to the estimate, and super reasonable. They even gave half off the check up cost for finding them on Yelp (without me asking for it) and threw in a free nail trim. Both Prudence and I left happier than we went in, and Im more than satisfied with the medical care she received. We will definitely be making Ocean Ave our permanent vet and I still have warm fuzzies from our experience earlier today. Bonus: they have a couple parking spots on the side of their building for customers!

Our chocolate Newfoundland Coco was rammed into by an Australian sheep dog. Her immediate howl of pain and pinprick pupils indicated that she was in big trouble. When we brought her in on an emergency basis, Dr. Pal was kind and patient. She also intuited right away that we did not necessarily want to pursue the most aggressive option of surgery right away. So Dr. Pal helped us navigate through those first worrisome months (yes, months!) with how to help our poor Coco to still do her necessary business and manage her pain. After it became obvious that Coco was not going to heal on her own, we elected surgery with UC Daviss Vet program. We received strict instructions to only have them (over an hours drive away) or our local vet re-do the bandaging - which the UC Davis vet wanted to do be done every day. The vet techs at Ocean Ave Vet Hospital all got to know Coco, and Dr. Pal helped to monitor the post-surgical healing process. It is now almost two years later, and Coco is back to her healthy happy self, chasing after her favorite squeaky ball at full speed. If you have any emergency situation with your beloved pet, there is no need to go to the more expensive vet hospitals - Ocean Ave Vet is open 7 days a week!
