After consulting with Dr. Nathan Steinle, Dr. Joseph Brent Oldenburg of Pacific Eye San Luis Obispo performed cataract surgery on my right eye that failed leaving me with a hole in the back of my eye that was not there before surgery, no lens, and blind. Before surgery Dr. Oldenburg told me I would be fine, not blind. So did everyone else I talked to at Pacific Eye. Three days later, (February 22, 2015), I was examined by both Doctors Oldenburg and Steinle in preparation for Dr. Steinle to perform surgery to repair the damage left after Dr. Oldenburgs surgery and implant a lens. I was again told by both doctors that this surgery would be successful. It wasnt. Doctor Steinles surgery did not manage to implant a lens and left serious damage to my Cornea. . (February 23, 2015). My right eye is still blind today. (January 23, 2017) Yes, these doctors told me about most but not all of the terrible things that can result from surgery. Yes, I signed the contract acknowledging these terrible things could happen. I signed the "informed consent" form and let these doctors operate because they downplayed the risks and assured me they were competent to conduct the surgeries with successful outcomes. I dont believe anyone would consider blind as a successful outcome. I certainly dont. Read that "informed consent" form very carefully before you sign away your sight and rights. Once you sign that agreement the surgeon seems to be immune from taking any responsibility for their failed surgery or the damages you suffer from it. I was terminated as a Pacific Eye patient with no warning on September 14, 2016 because I had the audacity to speak up and tell this story publicly. Their own words for this termination in a certified letter say: "Your ongoing and unfounded public criticism of one of the practices doctors makes it difficult to continue to be objective when working with you as a patient". No other reason. This is what I experienced being treated by Pacific Eye. If Pacific Eye wants to call what I have written here unfounded or untrue, they should feel free to sue me and we can let a court decide who is telling the truth.. I originally liked Dr. Chowins. The problem is the desk staff and whomever answered the phone. After moving to Texas, I called to get my contact prescription. Claudia answered the phone and was not helpful at all. Seemed irritated, asked me what my insurance was, then if Id paid the $45 fee, etc. All I wanted was my prescription!!! The saving grace was the technician, Chris. He said he would track down my prescription and call me back. Otherwise I would have given a single star.

It is always a great experience going to Pacific Eye. Dr. Abroms has been my doc for almost twenty years now. His team has always done their best to get me in and out in a reasonable amount of time. Everyone is great and Ive never had an issue worth crying about on the internet!
