Ive thought a long time about writing this review. But I feel I need to share my experience to help other people make an educated decision. My 12 lb chihuahua had surgery for luxating patellas in both legs. There are so many things I would do differently, and ultimately it is my dog that is paying the consequence. First of all-Never again would I allow a vet to do any surgery on two legs at one time. As a pet owner I should have done more research about bilateral surgery. At the pre-op I was told the surgery was fairly routine and he had good prognosis. They recommended doing the surgery on both legs at the same time. I questioned this briefly but I was told that it would be fine and was not an issue in small dogs. I took the advice. When I picked my dog up from surgery I was told that the surgery on one leg in particularwas much more difficult than expected. I was told that due to his severe poor confirmation that things did not go as planned . Im no surgeon, but shouldnt you know what youre getting into and plan accordingly from the X-rays before you open up his leg? Anyways, I followed all instructions kept my dog completely confined to a crate and only out to potty, leashed. At the 2 week checkup X-rays were taken and they revealed the less severe of the two legs was a failed surgery. I was frustrated bc the first two weeks he was really sore, the stitches had just healed, and he had just finished his antibiotics. but I knew it needed to be fixed. The vet did another surgery. Again, two more weeks of strict confinement, more pills, soreness. Again, Two weeks later at checkup more x rays were taken, revealing the surgery on the other leg had also failed. At this point I was really concerned and questioning my decision. My poor dog had undergone 3 surgeries in 4 weeks, and they were recommending another. My gut told me that I could not put him through another surgery without taking him elsewhere to get a Second opinion. I was advised to not let another surgery be performed at this time. And to let the leg heal for a month then come back for x-rays and reevaluation. One month later, a completely different surgery was recommended to stabilize the leg and also repair a torn cruciate ligament. Not sure when the cruciate tear happened, possibly the result of bilateral surgery? Or was it there all along and not noticed? Those are my questions not something I was told. Long story short-I shouldve done more research. I never should have let someone perform a bilateral leg surgery on my dog. At this point the one leg is really unstable. I am saving money for him to be able to have another surgery more suited to his confirmation and to repair the torn cruciate as well. I commend the staff for all being so caring and supportive.

I took my puppy in because his penis was swollen. He ended up having a couple pieces of foxtails up there. Note I brought my PUPPY in. The vet tech took his temperature and gave him treats and she was very sweet. When the vet walked in my puppy started to growl from being scared and the vet said right away "this isnt going to work put a muzzle on him" the lady gave me one and I put it on him and the vet continued to tell me how bad of a dog I have and that Im going to get sued later on because my dog is going to attack someone. I was shocked that this vet who is suppose to love animals just said that. My puppy was just scared! He checked him, he didnt growl at him one more time after the first time and the vet says he wont check it all the way unless we put my puppy to sleep because he was too scared of a puppy with a muzzle on? I do not recommend this place at all. They are expensive and try every way possible to charge you for anything they can think of!

I took my dog here because of an unknown back injury. The front office staff was very nice and helpful. Unfortunately the same was not true of Dr Alwin. He was more concerned with getting home then the care of my pet. I specifically told him I needed to keep the costs down. Instead of taking that under advisement, the doctor gave my pet a shot and several unneeded x-rays WITHOUT MY CONSENT! I felt sharked once I saw the bill with charges for items I did not approve nor was I even asked about! Dr said my pet would need recovery for 3 week, 2 days later he was perfectly fine without the meds I payed an additional $40 for. Skip the schemes and go see someone who cares about animals AND their owners! (FYI I did contact the doctors office regarding this matter, he was very unresponsive and definitely not customer centric, very poor service!)

I have an older Jack Russell, Elvis, and as he has aged, he has gotten himself in more trouble. One of his back feet got stepped on by a horse and I thought he might lose the foot. Dr. Alwen somehow got that jigsaw puzzle back together and after a few months of recovery, his foot is usable. That is a good thing, because recently Elvis broke his front paw. If Dr. Alwen hadnt saved his back foot, I might have been faced with a tough decision. Because Elvis has 3 usable legs, all Dr. Alwen had to do was set and splint his front paw, and we just have to let it heal for a couple of months.....The staff is excellent.

I have a really old dog. We have gone there for years. It seems as though they just want to keep my old dog alive. Her body has been through so much with all of these problems , We are in there mthly now. A bill of $400. each time With new labs and new pills each mth. I guess it Helps makes someones house payment there. When I ask about putting her down they tell me she can last like this for a few more years.....WHAT ! OH YAEH they have a house payment to make and my dog is part of the mthly plan. So I took my dog to another vet and they told me she did not have to suffer anymore.

I brought my cat to Edna Valley Veterinary after a terrible experience at another SLO vet with my other cats teeth cleaning. Edna Valley Veterinary cleaned my cats teeth, performed X-rays and extracted a tooth and had my cat back to me at the agreed time and for the agreed upon price...compared to my last experience this was such a relief! My cat is in great shape after receiving top-notch care and I will be bringing my dog there next! Thank you!

Brought my dog in for an broken foot they charge me $60 for splint that did not stay on I asked them to check his ears and a bite that he had on his balls they did not and they charged me a additional fee because my other dog was in there and I made the mistake of asking the vet a question about a previous surgery that they performed on her in all I feel like I was taken advantage of by these people think about that before you go see them
