Alamo Animal Hospital is fine for routine care of simple, straightforward health issues: administering shots, performing annual exams, dealing with punctures and abrasions, things like that. But if you have an elderly cat with a complex health issue such as cancer, I urge you to take your cat to UC Davis Veterinary teaching hospital instead. My cat was 17 and had developed several subcutaneous sarcomas. Because X-rays were not done until AFTER the surgical removal of the sarcomas, I did not realize that the surgery was pointless. Apparently, the vet didnt care to find out, and I was too credulous to question whether the pre-surgery workup was all it should have been. The post-surgery X-rays showed that the cancer had already spread to the kidneys and bladder. My cat suffered in agony for a week and a half from the surgery and the undiagnosed kidney and bladder cancer. When pulling the staples from the incisions, the doctor allowed his clearly inexperienced assistant to pull them as practice, causing my cat to cry out in pain. There were six large incisions, causing my cat great pain for the final week and a half of his life. He went blind following the surgery, and the doctor recommended force-feeding. It was just horrible. Please, do not make the same mistake I did. I loved my cat with all my heart, and by taking him here, I really let him down. Spare yourself the guilt, and your cat the agony. If you have an older cat, or a cat with any form of cancer, I urge you to take your cat to the UC Davis Veterinary teaching hospital. My cat died in November, and I am still heartsick that I did not take my cat there. My cats disease was fatal and he would have died, but if Id taken him to UC Davis, he would have been spared a week and a half of unnecessary misery and pain, and pointless surgery. Ive taken two other cats to UC Davis, and the difference is amazing: great communication, the proper diagnostic workup, avoidance of unnecessary surgery, and state-of-the-art care and facilities.

Dr. Dhaliwal is AMAZING. He has compassion for animals and people, especially little people. Ive been taking my zoo to him since 2005. My mother and sister go there also and love them as much as I do. I have friends and family in the veterinarian field. When Ive had issues with my fur babies Ive called them. Where they didnt have a clue as to what was going on, Dr. Dhaliwal knew, right off the bat. The tests always confirm he is on point. This man has a gift. The prices are reasonable, and the facility is always SPOTLESS. Im a clean freak so cleanliness is very important to me. On a personal note, my son has special needs that you wouldnt know by looking at him. Dr. Dhaliwal has the upmost compassion and patience with my son when he comes along to the appointments. Hes not bothered by my son making noises and squirming around. He speaks to him like any other person and explains things to my boy. Not everyone understands, even when they know my boy has special needs. His compassion for animals, and children speaks volumes for his character. It warms my heart when I leave knowing my fur baby is getting the best care and my little boy is getting treated like the awesome kid he is, and not a little boy who wouldnt sit still while mommy is talking to the doctor. Dr. Dhaliwal is an amazing veterinarian and human being. The staff is amazing as well. I will always take my fur babies to Alamo Animal Hospital. I wish I could give Alamo Animal Hospital more stars. <3

Went there today with my 9 year old dog because she was itchy. Big mistake. First off, his handling skills is atrocious. First thing the nurse did was scan for a chip. She was very sweet and all, but couldnt find the chip. Then the doctor came in and tried. While scanning for a chip he held my dogs muzzle tightly closed and pinned her down, making her extremely uncomfortable. As someone that has gone to vet school when I was younger, that is not how people are taught to handle dogs. Its a good way for him to get but by a less even tempered dog then mine. Then after 15 minutes of continuous looking for the chip he says he cant find, he puts a slip leash on my dog to make sure she cant move away from him and talks down to me as if I was lying about her having a chip. I saw my vet inject her with one when she was a pup. Still he insists on the chip, probably because he wants to sell me another one, when I wasnt even there for that!.. I was fed up by this point. I stood up, took the slip leash off of her and told him I didnt like the way he was handling my dog, or the attitude I was getting. To which he replied that I was the one with an attitude. Real professional. Went back to my normal vet and they found the chip no problem. If you care about how your pet is treated, and the care you get. Dont go here.

I have been taking my animals here for many years and Dr. Dhaliwal is phenomenal with my animals, the staff is incredibly caring and I completely trust them. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a doctor and staff who show compassion and thoughtfulness sometimes in very difficult situations. Dr. Dhaliwal and team have helped my family through the loss of two members of out family with dignity and caring. Dr. Dhaliwal has never pressured me into making a decision and although the animals always come first with him, he is very considerate of what my feeling are. The staff is helpful, show concern and is never too busy to lend a hand or to sometime help eliminate my fears. Through the emergencies, the normal care and the loss of my much loved pets I would like to thank them.

Dr Dhaliwal is amazing. Other reviewers have mentioned that, with him, the animals come first, and no truer words have been spoken. He is the most compassionate veterinarian I have ever taken any of my fur babies to. Those reviewers who have complained about his "bedside manner" just dont understand that his sole focus is on making your pet more comfortable and treating what ails them. His staff is very friendly, very caring, and obviously well trained. His prices are very reasonable, and hes so amazing that Id go there even if they werent. Youd be doing your pet, and yourself, a great disservice if you take them anywhere else.

Hes been so great with all of my animals including the most angry of my cats. And he is great at outlining what must be done, what should be done, and what he would like to do. Hell never pressure you into making a decision and although the animals always come first with him, he is very considerate of what the owner is feeling. You never feel like youre being judged as a pet owner if you end up taking the less expensive treatment. One of my older cats with diabetes has started getting excited when I pull out the carrier because he knows hes probably going to Dhaliwals.

Dr. Dhaliwal is one of the most caring vets my animals have been to; he will at times get right down on the floor with your pet to do the exam, and he gave me a "how to" on getting rid of that nasty cheese smell coming from my English Bulldog. The fix was so simple and free! Other vets I have asked before would just tell me, "Oh, you know, some dogs smell and others dont" Wash your dog in Selson Blue 2 times a month, then once a month after. He is very resonable on his price, and provides a military discount. Great location, never hard to get an appointment.
