Sad to say I’m not the only one to run afoul of their back office and for that reason we have moved our daughter to another group. The actual doctors are very good, at least we were pleased with ours when we saw her, however, there were several of their business practices which wore our patience thin. First, and this is something they could never get corrected, they would call me asking for my wife, or call my wife and ask for me. Initially we thought this was funny instead of taking it as a harbinger of their back-office’s incompetence. Second, whenever we had an appointment, we would be brought to an exam room within 5 minutes of our appointment time. We would then wait 10 minutes for a nurse to take basic height/weight/temperature measurements. What we found inconsiderate of our time was the 20 to 45 minute wait for the doctor to actually see our child. We had been debating leaving for this reason, but their billing department pushed us over the edge. Third – and at the risk of sounding like a jerk – but who in this day and age runs an office in Highlands Ranch, and doesn’t take American Express or Discover??? They will send out nasty-grams at the cost of 49-cents in postage apiece but get self-righteous about the merchant services rates. Because they did not accept either form of payment I posses, I wound up in a catch-22 with them when I paid a balance through my Aetna Navigator and Citi Money2 programs. I tried sending them proof that the payment had been made and the funds withdrawn from my account a week prior to my daughter’s 15 month checkup. They refused to provide me an e-mail address where I could send proof of payments with a lame excuse of not having encryption and a need to protect my personal information and instead continued to brow-beat me for a payment I already made. In addition to this they cancelled my daughter’s appointment 1 hour before it was scheduled – I was livid. I’m still impressed I haven’t used any expletives with their rep on the phone. Since e-mail is apparently a foreign concept they could only send me record request forms via snail-mail. I requested these 3 weeks ago and have still yet to receive them. I did receive yet another invoice for an already paid bill this week. Their refusal/incompetence to provide me my daughter’s records, or the forms necessary to even request them resulted in a partial medical history being provided to my new doctor leading to my daughter getting a repeat dosage of the flu booster. Fortunately there were no ill effects, but thank goodness this wasn’t something that had a high probability of causing harm in an overdose. Remember guys: First – Do No Harm!!! Hopefully tomorrow is the last day I have to deal with them to straighten out their failed billing system. They can take their $6 late fee and shove it.

This practice is EXTREMELY PROHIBITIVE to people who need to purchase their own insurance plans due to self-employment or other reasons. Their billing department is opaque about which plans they actually will take and you will be reminded REPEATEDLY that they will be calling your insurance before EVERY appointment to make sure you are current with your payments. This seems extreme...why not just keep a current credit card on file (especially if its a relatively inexpensive well-care visit)? Why make people who dont have the umbrella of a large corporate employer feel like second-class citizens? We have an expensive insurance plan with a premium that gets automatically deducted from our account, but when we called to make an appointment for a flu shot (ARENT THESE LIKE $30 AT THE GROCERY STORE?), they couldnt verify our insurance for the month yet and gave us a lot of static and a lengthy lecture. I imagine this is because the insurance payment hadnt posted yet, it being the first day of the month. I should also note here, weve been in several times and have never had any non-payment issues. I believe Academy Park Pediatrics is extremely committed to their bottom line and this colors the interactions you have with them. Their administrative team is really hard to work with..I recommend saving yourself the headache and going elsewhere for your childs care.

AMAZING!! We are military and we were only in Lakewood for 6 months but these guys were AMAZING!! I have a son with Cerebral Palsy and I had 6 months to get his wheelchair, augmentative device and other things before we moved to California and they were on top of it! I also needed some notes filled out for Army stuff on housing for my son and they had it done in less then a day! Dr. Copp was the most amazing doctor with my son and my 2 girls and she took a special interest in making sure we were set before moving. It is hard enough moving around with the Army with 3 kids especially when one is handicap and they made this part of life so easy. I was almost in tears that we had to leave and how loving and caring they were to myself and my children. I would recommend anybody to go here!! The staff has been nothing but helpful and amazing!! I appreciate is more then they could ever understand!!! The made life easy for this mama!! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING people!! I wish we could find a staff like these guys everywhere we go!!!

This office is overall horrible. Theyve forgotten about us and I had to come out a half an hour later because they told me to completely undress my son and the Dr. would be right in he was freezing so I went out to check and they were all standing around talking, when they took blood they didnt do it right so they had to poke him 4 times, when we asked for information on the vaccinations he was getting the nurse rolled her eyes and huffed off to get it, I told her my son was teething and asked her what we could give him or do for him she sarcastically asked me why I thought he was teething, when I explained he had been drooling, fever and fussy she said he was not old enough to be teething and did not even check. 2 days later a tooth popped out.... Incompetent and inconvenienced by their job. Take your child somewhere else!

It looks like most of the bad reviews for this practice revolve around people; not having the money to pay their bill, having non-traditional insurance policies, and not understanding how medical practices work. Thanks to rebuilds in the healthcare system a few years ago all doctors offices are harder to deal with. These reviews should center on doctor performance - the billing part is no problem unless you are the problem. The doctors and nurses here do a fine job.

wonderful practice. I have 4 girls and we feel very safe, confident and well cared for here. LOVE Goldburg and Nicholson wonderful Doctors. Some people said their children saw too many Drs--just request when you call who you would like to go to and they will tell you the days they are in. Easy! The HR office is new and clean!

i was going through financial times and had a unpaid 100 bill but my daughter was ill. made a appointment and once i got there they told me they would not see my daughter i offered to pay some of the bill they still told me no unless it was paid in full. needless to say me and my sick daughter found a better doctor.
