Condescending and rude would describe my experience perfectly. I was a young mom and was treated like I new nothing. I was told my 3 month old daughter was tongue tied because she "wasnt latching on well enough", this woman never saw me breastfeed and refused to take my word for it. My daughter had no problem eating! She always had a great latch! But she insisted I go get her tongue clipped because "it MIGHT be a problem as she gets older and shes a baby and cant feel it!" Uhhh... Are you stupid? She might not remember it but I can promise you she feels pain. Lets get your tongue clipped and you tell me how good it feels! I refused to do something like this if she might not even need it done before I could get second opinion. My daughter is fine by the way. Our new pediatrician is frustrated that she would have ever even suggested it! When my daughter was 6 months I was informed that she wasnt getting the nutrition she needed from BREASTMILK! (You know, the best thing for your baby...) And that I needed to stop breastfeeding and switch to formula. It was a miserable time for my daughter and I. My baby wanted to breastfeed and refused a bottle. Taoka told me to starve her so she would take the bottle of formula. Im sorry that just not going to happen. She gave me a specific amount of formula she needed each day, so I portioned it out and tried hiding it in her food. I made sure she got everything she needed and more. My baby always got in her full 16-20 oz. Of formula a day, plus my breastmilk and her baby food. After a few rough weeks dealing with this new transition my daughter was doing great! Taoka was impressed that a young irresponsible mom like myself could take care of the one person I loved more than anything. She asked me how I did it and I explained. Her response BLEW ME AWAY! "You cant be doing that. She needs it in a bottle." Now I never want to question a doctor but I had to that day. I can understand how hydration could be a concern, but she was drinking tons of water and breastmilk on top of it. You can mix your Koolaid in with your water or mix it in your food but either way you are still getting the same amount of sugar, are you not? Being a new mom they always questioned my intelligence and my God given instinct. Anyways, they told me I could call whenever if I ever had a question. Is there anything wrong with that? Absolutely not! The problem was they told me like I was a moron. So one evening I had a question that I really could have called my mom for. I spoke to her at 6:30pm and the phone call lasted maybe 3 minutes. She answered my question and it was fine. Well there was a follow up visit later and I was told by Felicia (the nurse) that I handled it all wrong. I informed her that I followed Taokas orders. She just gave me this look like I was lying to her and said, "she would never tell you to do that" and walked out of the room. It was so weird! She was always so nasty to me! Well weeks later I received a bill in the mail. My daughter is on Medicaid so I was a little confused because all of her care is normally covered. I received a $5 bill for my phone call that was "AFTER HOURS!!!!" What? You tell me to call you for anything every visit and now you want to charge me for a 3 minunte phone call?! I refused to pay it. After the way I was treated in their office there was no way I was going to pay for Taoka to get a Starbucks. I was harassed for months with letters in the mail with personal notes written in bold red ink that read, "Please pay promptly!" But if they want to pay more money to send me to collections they can go for it! These are just a few of the problems Ive had with these guys. I am so displeased with my experience. I am so glad to say we have found a pediatrition we can trust. Who is friendly, personable, great with kids, understanding, educated, respectable and always on time. If you live in Littleton and want a good pediatrician we HIGHLY recommend Pediatrics West located on Coal Mine.

CONDESCENDING ENVIRONMENT I am a 37 year old mother and experienced a patronizing or superior attitude from both the receptionist Kay and Dr. Nancy Taoka. When my 2nd daughter was born I was told that I had to come in for a well child visit and that I needed to bring someone else along since it was week 1 after having a baby. I agreed and called the receptionist Kay to make an appt. I wanted to bring my husband. I asked for Friday so that he could just take the day off to have a long weekend. She said "No, that wont work because we dont do well child visits on Fridays. Dont you have anyone else who could come along on a different day? A mother or sister?" My thought: Its none of your business! Another example, last week I called to make an appt for my daughters 8-yr old physical. Before I could say anything the receptionist Kay says, "You know, people usually call in May to make these physical appts, so you really should do that. There arent many appts available now. " My thought: Okay, I am in no rush, so what is your next available. My daughter wont need shots at 8yrs, etc. Us Moms get busy. Arent we the customers here? It sure didnt feel like it!! One additional frustration is that this pediatrician has no web site, and you cannot email them or communicate with anyone else unless you go through Kay. They recently purchased a customer database, and I know this because Dr. Taoka complained about using an iPad and inputting things in the database for almost an entire appt. When I called to give feedback about Kay, it took over 24 hours for Dr. Taoka to call me back. She listened, and did say she was sorry, but basically brushed it aside saying that Kay was too grandmotherly and gave way too much information.

I have been going to Nancy for over three years she takes care of my son and now daughter. She is wonderful, I love her! She is very caring and understanding. She respects my family and always gives me great information. I can call her about anything the nurse is always willing and able to answer all my questions about health and behavior. They truly care about my family. I had some problems with my insurance and they have been so wonderful working with me. I had been making payments and to thank me for never missing a payment on Christmas they took $50 off my bill!! And when my husband had gotten a new job and we were in between insurance until the 60 day period she told me not to worry if something was wrong to call her anyway and wed work out the rest later! They are so kind and caring. While they are of course a business I still feel that they truly care about me and my family on a personal level. I hope I am always within driving distance so I continue seeing Nancy and her staff, I dont think anyone could ever fill her shoes, she is too amazing!
